What social interaction needs to be given up?

The adjustment to being in certain situations was tough but mainly because I had no experience in dealing with them sober.

My friends are still my friends, my drinking buddies were never really friends to begin with.

And there is no combat when you cease fighting everyone and everything.

My Friday nights consisted of going to a bar so that was given up. I wouldn’t say I’ve given up on family parties where there’s a lot of drinking, but I’m usually the first one to call it a night and head home. Yesterday the new neighbor offered me a beer and gave me a weird look when I said I don’t drink. I don’t think social interactions need to be given up, but they will change a little.

Is he an RDP member? If so.....whats his screen name. I cant read the news as I don't subscribe to it.

I don't know if he is an inmate here but from the LHC News.........

A Lake Havasu City man, who identified himself as a racecar driver, was arrested for three counts of criminal damage after allegedly crashing into three vehicles and a tree.
According to the police report on Aug. 8, at 7:15 p.m. a Havasu officer was called to the 3000 block of Kiowa Boulevard to help with a possible DUI investigation. The officer says when they arrived on the scene they saw David Bush who told them that he was coming from his shop, he had two Black Velvet shooters and that he is a racecar driver. Police say they asked Bush to complete field sobriety tests but stopped them for Bush’s safety after he struggled to complete them.

I have cut WAY back on my drinking. I thinking Ive been drunk 2 or 3 times in the last year? Other than that, a 12 pack will last me about 2 weeks and I almost never have any hard alcohol at all. I believe most of the reduction though is due to not many friends in the area and no real family either so not much reason to drink really.

For those of you who have made the right choice, how did you combat giving up the social interaction aspect of drinking? Asking for a friend.

You'll also find you don't want to be around the drunks anymore when you're sober, and I mean that as drunks, not just people who are drinking. The antics and stupidity are appalling when not blurred by the haze of inebriation. You wont miss the hangovers, and you eliminate the chance of making a multitude of bad decisions. The only thing you'll miss, if you're as white as I am, is "thinking" you can dance.

Legit reply, I can’t argue with ANY of that. Especially the last part, because I’m guilty as hell.

I actually miss when drunks tell me the same story 8 times in an hour. It helps as I may have missed something important. [emoji16]

Just show up and order an ice tea or water. If they are giving you shit about not drinking a beer and it's not a jab then reconsider who your friends are...
I love my beer its no secret but one thing i do not do is give shit to those who have quit drinking ill drink my beer they can drink their tea, water soda, odouls whatever as long as they can hang out with is all that matters.Ones that have quit did so for their own reasons and no need to give them shit or encourage them to drink again.

It's like any other choice you make in life, commitment. You constantly have to make a conscience effort to stay true to yourself. Your mind is your best ally and also biggest enemy but you still get to choose which team.
