Running out of room for all our off road toys. I got this bed rack to solve some hauling issues.
I cut it down and did some modifications to make it fit my shortbed with my tailgate gate closed.
What I didn't consider was the furthest point of the rack may hit front corners of my TH when I'm making a hard turn. Like a uturn. I have no issues now with this.

17" now. I can cut that down to 13".

How bad of an idea is it to get a longer shank? Im seeing one that will give me 4" more length. Rated at 14000#. My TH is a long sucker. About 13,000

It would be more leverage. If you have the factory hitch bolted to the bottom of the frame, I'd be a bit worried. With the truss extension, for a big camper, they want a classV I think? It also depends on tongue weight and where you camp.

If you are serious about this, and I see no reason not to be, Get a superhitch and the appropriate strut for it. This is designed and built for exactly the type of issues you are having. They are the go to in the cabover world. Think of the stickout on the back of those and then to still be able to tow the trailer you want.

Well. Made it to Glamis from Denver a couple years ago to find this when we got to camp. Shop in Brawley put a new 15,000# hitch on. I am planning on adding some reinforcement to the new hitch.

This would be the best solution, they work well. Buddy has a 450 with a house in the bed and a rock crawler and crap on a trailer.

I had this problem with our Fleetwood 39J. We wanted to have a bike rack but the hitch didn’t stick out far enough. I had all the concerns with weight and leverage and I didn’t want any trouble. I went to a reputible trailer place discussed it with him, gave him the weights of my trailers, the length I needed and he built me one. Never had one issue. Heavy fucker though.🍺
