A person would just be pinned against the iron fence. The two I have been to, both have barriers in the water to keep boats a good distance away. If someone is determined to swim near the hole, they will do it.

I have been to that one also. JFK came out for the opening of the dam (or whatever they call the ceremony). They have pictures at the site, of him there for the opening.

That was my Dad’s old beat(do they still use that term?) in the 60’s ad 70’s.
That stretch of road, before I-5 was built, used to be called “slaughter alley” due to amount of head ons that occurred up there.

Over two decades later, in 2019, a cormorant's encounter with the Glory Hole drew attention. Captured in a viral video, the bird drifted calmly before being swept into the drain. Against all odds, the bird emerged unscathed, its survival attributed to an air pocket in the tunnel during high flows, its light body mass, and ability to tuck its wings. Notably, there is no video evidence of its escape, only of its entrance into the spillway. This remarkable incident added to the Glory Hole's mystique.

In this age of "people are too stupid to be left on their own", as close to the edge of the lake as it is you'd think that they'd at least put up a log boom across the lake a few hundred feet away from the opening.

On a side note, why did the move the log boom on the Havasu side of the Parker Dam way back away from where it was originally - a few hundred feet away from the dam structure? It was a nice little place to hang out in before pulling the boat out at Havasu Springs.

I'm glad I got to do the self guided tour a couple of times, walk across it, and actually tow a boat across it!

Used to be so easy to get to the lake from Big Bend back in the day.
