It is my first post so hopefully you guys will go easy on me.

I wanted to get people's thoughts on Essex. I sold my Magic a few years ago and it is time to get back into the market. My ideal is a Howard sport deck but that my be more than I want to commit to right now.

I was looking at Essex, they have an okay looking deckboat but I am not sure about the build quality. Any thoughts/experiences would be helpful.

Thanks

Essex builds a quality good boat IMO. Can't go wrong with owning one. Is it the high brand name= no. But the build is good like I said. I used to own a laser made by Essex and was satisfied with the quality of the boat and the performance.

Welcome to the circus and enjoy the ride

To be honest, I wasn't impressed with the Magic build quality. Magic also had crazy graphics which are too much for me. I am really into nice clean lines. I had a Lavey prior to my Magic but I don't really like the look of the party prowler.

At this point I am all over the map, I just know I want to be on the water again.

I am looking for something good for the family and deckboats really fit that bill but I am also considering a 23-25' vee as that will be more reasonable pricewise.

Essex builds a quality product but you might want to check out cobras new 27ft deck. There is a thread on here somewhere.

I just bought an Essex Raven last year. They did a great job with the build and am more than satisfied with the boat. It handles great and rides really well. It has a few issues that I like to call the new boat blues, but Steve has been more than willing to make everything right. Would definitely buy another one or recommend on to some on else.

I am on my second ESSEX and I love it. It is the VORTEX with a 496 H.O. It does everything I want it to.

Essex makes a nice boat. I don't know much about there deckboats and there seems to be only a few out there. Maybe consider a used Howard? I would also consider Shockwave's 25' Tremor. That is alot of boat for the money. Best value in 25' class on the water IMO.

Good luck.

I saw them at the LA show two years ago. The pre recession boats were built nicer then the new ones. That being said I wouldn't hesitate to buy an Essex! I would just be up front about my expectations.

I don't think there pricing is going to be that much cheaper then Nordics.. I would look at them as well if buying new. Nordic is pretty hard to beat right now.

I have nothing against Essex, but RD mentioned Nordic - this is not mine, but seems like a deal for a 2009?

I would by a used Howard tomorrow if I could find one. I love their boats. I am working through the details and may still buy a new one but and considering fall back options.

Thanks everyone for your input.

I've owned my Essex almost 11 years now and couldn't be more happy. I have never been in their Deck but if they are built as well as their V's you should be fine. If you are spending that kind of coin, check them all out.

Give Gene a call at the shop, 661-257-9275, he may know of one for sale that has not yet hit the classifieds.

I was at the shop last night - there was one that just sold. I am going to keep my eye open for something.

I'll go out and check out Essex this weekend.

I had a Essex Monarch before my Magic and it was built like a freight train . Very heavy lay up , solid in rough water . And with a bravo 3 and 496 it planed super quick and ran mid 60s . Great trouble free solid boat !!!

I'm more impressed with my vortex every time I take it out. It is an 01 though, not sure if anything has changed since then.

A friend of mine has had two and completely happy. The first one was the sterling and his current one I think is the monarch. Both are solid as rocks.
