It’s due to prop 12. CA voters passed the law that will drive up the costs of and shrink the supply of their food.

I voted no on it before I left.

SCOTUS ruled on prop12 in May that CA is free to tax its food into oblivion if voters will oblige.
No matter how much it hurts😁 I have to say you are correct, prop 12 is the problem.
Woke has just gotten too close!!

Look on the bright side. The pigs, veal, and chicken have a little more room to move around in their cages.

The dumb part is this was just virtue signaling.. they are still in cages, just slightly bigger ones. But the CA liberals get to feel better about themselves.

Pork products will be doubling soon because of prop 12. It raised earlier this year, then dropped as there were no guidelines, now completed expect it to go to $8-9 per LB.

All pork will be raising, not just bacon.

This might not be a bad thing. As I search to find our son’s future ex-wife….looking at the waistline of the young adults these days it could have positive results. Not that I am a thing of beauty as I age. But, the youth certainly have different standards for themselves.

Lastly, the added weight is really messing with my lawn so until further notice please stay off it. 👍

You are correct, however man can not live without bacon,
this particular bacon is already $7.50/lb but it is so good I can't live without!!

I just don't want to have to drive 45 minutes every other week, I want to buy 6-8lbs at a time.
What is next, veggie bacon?? let me guess they already have it:rolleyes:

I’m not a peta guy by any stretch of the word.. but am I the only guy that thinks some having pigs in cages so small they can’t even turn around is kinda fucked?

The less you know about how your protein is raised the better it tastes.

Cattle, Chickens, Pigs... most are not exactly raised 100% "free range".

Except for Joels!

Honest question, what if groceries are buying from farmers outside of ca? They have ti abide by the regulations still for import into ca. so, hog farms will leave ca to avoid this bullshit and then log farms just won’t hassle importing into ca. won’t be able to get pork soon enough. Ca is too much trouble.

Not for nothing, but Something else to think about - China owns the vast majority of hog farms

So you can smoke pot in CA but you can’t smoke pork?

Sounds like things have gotten much worse than I imagined they might. That’s OK because I’m a second hand vegan. Animals eat plants, I eat animals. All of the animals around me have plenty of room to turn around or anything else they want to do. But the outcome is always the same. Freezerland.

I’m not sure about pigs but i do hear that free range chickens are only in name. They don’t wander around the ranch..

If you let anything wander around after it’s been fed it’s burning calories and not putting on the pounds that the market requires.

True. I have a friend that sells quite a bit of stuff to chicken ranches. Even though the doors are open and they can go anywhere, they don’t. They pretty much sit inside. Same as if they didn’t have open access. Guessing decades of breeding has an impact.

So I looked up Prop 12 and it appears it was passed roughly a year ago.

Why is this an issue now? 🤷‍♂️

It was passed in 2018. It’s going into effect now/soon. Did you vote for it? 😂

Prop12 isn’t even “free range” it’s just that they have to be in slightly bigger cages..

The animal rights people didn’t want it to pass at the time because they didn’t think it went far enough.

Enough is enough….
Either quit bitchin about it and move….
Either realize the money most of us make in California fund most of this website..
Either realize Havasu is funded and built off of ca money….
Havasu has no infrastructure and all the money comes from somewhere else, little bit of Phoenix, but look around,
Either make more or the good ol RDP MOTTO.
GO BE POOR SOMEWHERE ELSE.
lol.
Just busting balls. Don’t be too mad..
oh. And I have chickens and pay too much for fuel and bacon, and work every day way too long. 🤷🏼

I live in AZ, have a place at the river, a garden, a bunch of chickens...and a "high capacity fridge" with pork, beef and maybe some "free range" elk and venison.
I did go somewhere else to be poor 🤣
One of the best decisions of my life!

Somewhere recently posted was a bunch of pig farms just got shut down due to lack of consumption??
I swear they are trying to make food hard to come by?

Buy your limit, then come back and tell them you identify as someone else.

Side note...When TF did bacon get so damn expensive? Went to the grocery store for the first time in a while, and I was shocked.

Well that makes my question even more relevant!

WHY the fuck is this an issue NOW???

🤣
I am pretty deep into this BS being in the food business. It is hitting now because the courts upheld it after appeals and injunctions since it was voted in. As of July 1st all pork (under the guidelines) had to be Prop 12 compliant being brought in or produced in CA. Any non-Prop 12 compliant pork in a retailer or distributor's possession can be sold until 12/31. We are in the middle of Prop 12 compliant pork coming into the market mixed with non-compliant pork on-hand. All prices are going up. The bacon market this last week didn't go up for the 1st time in 6 weeks and stayed the same price as the previous week...hopefully we hit the ceiling.

Kicker is that any cooked pork or raw sausage is not covered under Prop 12? How that makes sense is amazing to me? Theoritically that means sausage should not go up and how pork from non-Prop 12 pigs can be made into sausage to sell in CA but not bacon, ribs or pork butt, I do not know? Crazy!

There is another lawsuit out there but I am not holding my breath. It is a few other states suing CA saying that they are now stuck with an abundance of pigs and CA being the largest consumer of pork in the US mandating all of these out-of-state farms to comply isn't legal.

It is a mess...

Bacon prices peaked last year when it was supposed to go into effect. Dropped back down and now going up.

My grandparents farm in Iowa sits empty. Has for 15 plus years. Only way to make money with hogs was in a confinement system. Majority of the hog farmers switched over. My Uncles farm has been setup that way for over 25 years. You need thousands of hogs to be competitive.

My brother in law went to Bakersfield, and my wife went to Fresno. Growing up in the LA area, I loved it there. Dirt track, drag strip and Ming was close...not a bad place at all!

The difficulty of our modern day Information society we have is anyone can champion a cause without knowing the downstream affects. Electric cars, climate religion, wokism and now bacon.

Same liberal idiots staring at something they don't understand telling the world how it works.

They sure are. While Muyuan foods it building the largest highest density pig fam in the world. And US keeps shutting our own farms down. Unreal isn't it.
