Looking a for a good shop that can do a tune up in a non mercury motor, I have a normally aspirated B.B.c 540 that I wanted to make sure it’s running right, carb adjusted etc.

Recommendations?

While it's, not that hard to tune a carb (if you know the proper way to read plugs as that is the hardest thing to learn) it is becoming a lost art. I sure enjoyed tuning on my racecar at the track, but not so much when I'm on the water I just want to hit the key and go.

The only "prop shaft dyno" that I know of in town is at The Outboard Doctor, and it's probably limited to 350 HP .

So as far as "carb adjusting", that would only have an effect on "idle, float levels, and off idle accelerator pump volume" .

True "tuning" would require a load on the motor at all RPMs and not just revving it up . Then the jetting, PVs/springs/rods, and timing, could be TUNED to what the motor/drive combo requires .

Lots of variables here, stock or modified engine would be my next question .

Octane Marine tuned the non Merc carb 540 in my boat. I have ran it in 115 degree heat at Havasu, 90 degree heat at 4700 feet elevation here in Oregon, and all aspects in between and it seems to run spot on everywhere with zero issue. Im sure it runs "better" in one condition compared to another, but I can't seem to tell a difference. Hit the key it fires right up, in and out of gear at idle without a worry. The boat just works, and I'd highly recommend him.

Tom at pro marine can handle your needs. He loves old skool carb motors. He does on the water testing
