only one. rolling through the gorge at no wake speed, large boat in center of channel length wise, cop on back end of boat so I could not pass between the cop and the gorge beach so I passed on the opposite side of the boat which would not have been a Portside pass.

cop decided to roll me up and tell me the only safe way to pass is Portside. funny as it was almost impossible to do safely.

I got a parking ticket at my local ramp because the stalls aren’t long enough to fit truck and trailer thus I parked taking up a couple spots so I wasnt sticking out into the lane. Plenty of empty spots so wasn’t like a dick move. Other than that harbor patrol rolled up on us to talk about the boat while we were floating out front of the house and asked if I’d refrain from doing high speed passes in front of the break wall. Lol 🤷🏻‍♂️ not illegal, he was just asking because of heavy ish traffic and people freak.

Oh, and guard Nazis on nacimiento wouldn’t let me launch at heritage because the boat is coast guard documented and no CF numbers. They were trippin. Launched at main marina no prob.

Only interaction was the first trip out. We were walking down to the boat and saw the sheriff boat at the gas dock. Took my son over to check it out “he’s obsessed with police anything”. Officers came down and sure shit I went to high school with one of them so it was cool to reconnect and exchange numbers.

We did. We got to the ramp and there was a shit ton of boats trying to get out with a couple of cops hanging around. I backed my trailer in a tight spot and my GF drove the boat on perfectly. Cranked it up and we were out of there in less than one minute. One of the cops gave her a thumbs up as I pulled the boat out.

LEO rolled up to us hard at three dunes. Pointed at our kids playing water and said, “thanks for having them wear life jackets.” Gave us some coupons for ice cream and bounced. Pretty funny.
It's amazing how many parents don't have their young kids in life jackets playing near the waters edge. It only takes a second, we ALWAYS had our kids in jackets. Was in Blythe a few years ago and there was a toddler playing on the bank with no jacket on, got swept down the river and drowned, happens fast.

I know I’m due also. That radar detector and Waze can only save me for so long. Cruising 85-90 entire way has been nice though.
I'm stupid. I don’t use any of those things. I just drive those speeds all the time. I get a ticket every 18-24 months. I go to traffic school and drive fairly decent for a year or so. Then, start driving like an asshole again and get my ticket. Wash and repeat.

Bought a brand new boat and immediately threw it in the water at Windsor, full well knowing that I would get rolled with no numbers or registration.

Only took about 45 minutes, but the Arizona guys were super cool and put it out over the radio that they had already checked us and we were good to go (after I handed them the packet with the purchase paperwork and temp registration).

I believe after I heard about the little girl that got swept away in needle or somewhere. Shit got me messed up. So they wear it all the time.

My kids also made it a habit. They get on the boat after launching they point at the jackets.

Last interaction I had with the popo was over ten years ago?

Dude lit me up for being on the wrong side of the river in Parker (just below Foxes, if you know, know).

"Do you know you're on the wrong side of the river?"

Me: Do you know how shallow it is over there?

He looked at me and took off.

Bye Felicia! 😁

Last time I got pulled over was on my way to the Enduro 10 years ago at 7:00AM hauling ass down rice road on Saturday morning....Nick gave me a driving award, and I earned it.

Our place was south of Parker (now closed) and in 35 years, I think I've seen the cops down there 2 or 3 times....which is one reason we go there.

The only way to get the cops to show up in Long Beach is to shoot someone, but I think even then all you have to do is light off a few fireworks directly before or after you shoot someone and they'll not bother showing up. They don't seem to give a shit about dispatching officers around here for much of anything. The few times they have showed up 8+ hours later, they claim they can't do anything, so nobody really bothers calling anymore. No encounters at the river and no encounters at home.

Nope, I have a Hallett, a grandpa F150, no tats and a bunch of kids on board. They think I am one of them.
That didn't stop them from giving me a FST with about 5 people on board all with silver hair. No one was drinking any alcohol and none was on board or seen in anyone’s hand.

Just because you blend in doesn't mean they don't want to make an example of someone just to wave the flag. They knew I would pass, they just wanted everyone else to see they were doing it.

You are a better man than me brother. I would have told them to take that FST and shove it up their ass. Take me to jail and draw my blood if you want to try and make an example, otherwise leave us alone and screw off.

Without exaggerating, I yelled at a minimum of 20 police boats this year. Every single time I yelled "Thank You" while my wife and I waved and smiled they smiled and waved back.
20 years of boating not a single negative encounter on the water.... Now CHP - different story.

I use 3 precautions when traveling on the open road, My Escort Passport 9500IX, Waze and driving within reason for the area and conditions. These 3 precautions eliminate most situations with CHP.

Just a couple of days ago on the 101, I was going with the flow of traffic on my way home from work, about 80mph in the number 2 lane.. My radar starts alerting me of a strong KA band, I slow down a little, the alert continues, I slow down to just under 70 and a car passes me and goes into the fast lane going about 80... The CHP was right behind us, he lights him up and pulls him over. I swear, my radar detector has saved me from so many tickets.. I'm surprised so many people don't have radar detectors, it's crazy.

People can report the presence of police or accidents and then prompts you to confirm if they are approaching there.

Google Maps just incorporated this Waze feature into their app as well. Not very accurate in my opinion, they've (the fuzz) usually moved on most times by the time you reach the marker.

Wife got pulled over in Parker for rolling the stop sign. A few weeks later I was driving her to the courthouse and right in front of the courthouse I got pulled over for the same thing! It happened to be the same cop I dealt with on the sxs thread . I was given a warning and an education. You have to stop BEFORE the limit line in front of the crosswalk. I got lucky! While the wife was inside paying her fine.

I have the same passport as well. I only use it havasu bound otherwise it sits in my center console. Otherwise it pinks K band all the time.

Yeah, lots of new vehicles put out a radar signal that triggers the K band. Definitely works better on the open road.

@FlyByWire knows how to drive his sh**. At the dam run he got a late start due to a flat tire etc. he caught us all I remember looking back and I see this fundeck trimmed out on the fricken gas. HELLL YAHHH

I used most my gas trying to catch you guys 😂

But to answer the original topic. I’ve never been pulled over on the water (knock on wood). I know most the guys that work the boats anyway, but still. I know it’s mostly deuce hunting.

I’ve got the new Gen II Valentine One and it does not detect what ever the Sheriff’s Motor Officers are using in Santa Clarita. Not sure what they have but, I’ve been surprised a couple of times.

None the less, it limits K, strongly detects KA and regularly detects laser.

Our interaction was good. They pulled a boat over in the channel at Pirates for not obeying the no wake zone. Theybended up pulling them in right next to us and my wife goes right into protect our boat mode. She helps guide in the Sheriff boat so she felt good that they wouldn't hit our boat. You can ask anyone that we boat with, my wife is the ultimate boat protector/bumper. Head is always on a swivel. Driver of the Sheriff got kind of upset at her for doing so.

After they completed their stop he turned to her and apologized for "yelling" at her and wanted to make sure my wife wasn't upset, which she wasn't.

Super nice guy as well as his partner and we ended up talking to them for about 10-15 minutes before they took off.
