We removed a wall and putting in new flooring. I thought maybe i would remove the underlayment but its glued and stapled, a millon times. There is some minor mold on the under layment in a few places. I was going to spray them and not worry as we are covering will lvp.

The wife sees it and wants to pull up the underlayment. 1/4 wood underlayment over osb subfloor. With the glue its going to pull up the surface of the subfloor. Besides a lot of work it will mean having to use floor leveler to get a flat smooth surface

I thought to apease her i would clean it and then encapsulate the surface. What should i use.

In the 30 years being a kitchen the floor got wet in isolated incidents but there is not a water problem and everything it sound .

The 1/4" was probably for linoleum. I would tear out the osb also and re sheet it. So you can get it perfect for lvp. Over time it will contour if not perfect.

I would pull the underlayment and then sand the sub floor if growth is present on that wood. Be careful though as it should be done under containment and negative air. I personally avoid encapsulation as it will be a bitch to dry that wood, if you ever have a water loss again on it. We would use a botanical disinfectant like Decon 30 after sanding, let it dry and then HEPA Vac the area before laying any new floor down.
