This is not an argument thread just a general discussion on personal experience or industry knowledge regarding these two boats. I am currently trying to sell my Eliminator to upgrade. I would like to build either an Eliminator 33X Speedster or a DCB M35. I know some will say the 33X is more comparable to the M31 and the M35 is more comparable to the 36 Speedster (now 40 Speedster with the bustle). To answer the prior statement I am not crazy about the M31's lack of bustle, and I am not crazy about the overwhelming size of the bustle on the 40 Speedster which is why I am not in the market for either of those boats. Both manufactures finish the boats immaculately especially with new builds they have both reached an extreme level of detail. The beam on the 33X is only 3 inches wider than the M35 so not too much difference there, what does stand out to me the most is the difference in the weight of the boats. The 33X Speedster weighs 4900lbs, while the M35 weighs 9250lbs, while I know someone will say its a bigger boat even the M31 which I am not interested in weighs 8500lbs. So Even with a light kevlar lay up the weights between the hulls of these two manufacturers seems drastically different, does anyone have info as to why or experience into how it correlates with handling on the water? I spoke with teague and was super impressed with their service intervals for their engines compared to Mercury. The price difference between the 1050's with 6 drives was only $8,000 dollars less then going with 1200's with 6 drives per engine, so 1200's are the direction I am going. Teague told me they have a 300-400 hour rebuild time which I find impressive compared to what I have heard about the mercury turbo engines. And lets be honest folks a twin turbo engine will never sound as badass as a teague motor at 6000rpm's lol. So feel free to comment and share opinions the more the better. These are both great boat manufacturers who do great work not looking to insult either just to hear and share opinions and experiences???????????????????

If really try to get a ride in sloppy water in both. Feel how solid, or not solid they both are.

And as far as power, if I had to do it over again, I’d have gone with Teague

Yea I will try to get on the water with someone to experience both in a live situation that would probably be the best tell all. Teague and his company just come off as professional as it gets to me, I cant think of any complaints I have personally heard regarding their engines so seems to be a solid bet to spend my money on.

The 36 (now 40) with the giant bustle was a one off build as far as the bustle goes.
There is no bustle in the molds of that model.
So theoretically the 36 could be built with none, or to spec if you wanted some but not all that was on that unit.

Are you sure about that. No 36 on the website, only the 40. and I have seen more then 1 (orange one then the white, red one).

I wondered why both of the 40’s were put up for sale so quickly? The 1350 boat has been for sale for a while.

You are technically correct on this, I got a quote last year for the 36 Speedster WITHOUT the bustle and they said they could do a regular 36 no bustle so this is true unless something has changed since last year. They only show the 40 Speedster on the site I think they prefer to produce them with the bustle but from my understanding they will still do them without at Eliminator.

I heard the orange 40 Speedster with 1350's the owner wanted a smaller boat. And the 40 Speedster that is white and red with the 860's the owner who is a really nice guy told me on Instagram he and his family wanted an even bigger boat that they could use in the ocean in salt water.

The 1350 boats price looks pretty good in this market, surprising it hasn’t sold.

I completely agree I am pretty amazed no one has grabbed it yet. To be honest I would be heavily interested in it if it had Teague motors, I am just not a turbo guy and I don't see how anybody unless you got next level bread can justify the service intervals and overhaul price of each of the mercury 1350's. I know some would say if you can buy a boat like that why are you worried about the cost of servicing but people have to realize to some of us we work really hard and made solid investments and a boat like this is our one big splurge our one liability purchase to enjoy. Cats that have next level bread this is just another one of many toys in their garage filled with foreign cars, multiple boats, all kinds of stuff so to them the service cost of those motors might not be to big of a deal which i respect and understand.

You might check and see if the Eliminator weight includes the motors, I believe the DCB does that's why they say average weight. The old Eliminator 33 ICC was listed as 7500 pounds with Engines and this one is much wider.

1- If you have the cheddar, DCB the entire way. Proven over and over and over and over.....

2- “recommended” and “required” are far different service intervals. Don’t run it on the pin every second of the day, let the oil come to temp before getting down, and be smart! The Merc programs will go much farther than most babble.

I was at the Elim factory a couple times when the orange boat was being built. I was at PBC a few weeks back where it sits for sale today. Again, if you have the cheddar, go look at it and the other 6-7 boats on the floor. It’s arguably a great deal in today’s world, but it’s much different than other offerings in that arena.

Very true Id imagine if you take care of the motors in a general sense as far as not abusing them relative cruising speeds for most of the day and proper warm up times like you said could probably get much more hours between service intervals. I guess I had initially assumed it would void your warranty if you didn't have documented service at the times Mercury recommends, but with that said from my understanding of other peoples issues with Mercury they don't do much to assist with any warranty issues anyway so theres that. But I bet that 40 speedster is a sight to see in person, its in Missouri for sale is that correct??

Again, in that arena, warranty isn’t the concern. Within reason, they are non existent unless something VERY catastrophic happens, and even then you better saddle up.

What is your experience in these higher end, fast cats?

The Orange Speedster was sitting in PBCs showroom when I was there at the end of April.

Damn that boat is beautiful. Love the adrenaline trailer upgrade as well. Aside from a full cap this boat pretty much has every upgrade option you could put into one and I believe it ran in the 170's on GPS recall. It really is a steal at a lil over 520K.

is the 19 or 21 Daytona on their website? 😉
You may have the answer to this question. With the 40 Speedster with the bustle they started doing the butterfly engine hatches, can they still do butterfly hatches on a 36 Speedster without the bustle or do they have to use the previous style one piece engine hatch for a new 36? Just curious to know how many of the newer 40 Speedster upgrades you can still get if you go with the 36 no bustle?

One thing to consider, the 33X is a fairly new boat and there is one that was built with Teague motors, but don’t know how it runs. Whereas there’s a ton of M35s out there, and a bunch running Teague power. So in terms of having a boat built and set up right from the get go, I think the nod goes to DCB. They have the data, motor position, drive height, gear ratio, props etc to make it run right out of the box. The 33X may take a little testing (which Teague would help out with).

33x Speedster closed bow around 7500 lbs and walk through open bow around 7800 lbs.
As far as setup, it’s dialed in, as Bob Teague. Stock out of the box Merc 700’s closed bow 135-140 mph and walk through 130 mph.

You can’t go wrong with either of the two boats. DCB build a hell of a boat!

My $.02, and I have had 17 eliminators. DCB uses cad design and uses engineers to design their boat bottoms, cg, etc. for their new models. Eliminator on the other hand is more old school, as was Bob back in the day, ie make some changes and see how it works out. All of the cats are variations of the original Daytona hull, widened, bustles added etc. I know of some new boat and power combinations that just didn’t work, and had to be reworked over and over to make them perform, from what I see the technology invested up front by DCB on any new model assures that the same won’t happen.

I believe the one your referencing has Big Teague Motors tuned up by D1 Performance. If so, it pulled 176mph and had juice to go

Originally when the entire choice to upgrade began for me, I was going to to do a 33X with the Merc 700 package I like that the you can buy the engine and 6 drive as a package deal, but I have read about a number of issues with the 700. I was going to immediately do the Stage 3 or 4 whipple upgrade which would of immediately voided my warranty on that package so it caused me to kind of steer away from it. I know the teague 1200's are a big jump from the 700's even with the whipple upgrade but Im trying to be as calculated as possible on the front end as far as support and reliability goes instead of having to pay a shit ton with not just my money but also my time on the back end if I ran into any issues. But you are correct 33X right out the box with 700's running in the high 130's is pretty impressive.

I don’t doubt it. I think it had 1400s right? Very fast hull and a good looking boat for sure.

Did you ask Bob about each setup? He has so much seat time in every boat on earth lol that I trust his opinion.

Damn 17 eliminators Ill tell you what man I will sale my two companies and come work for you I will start tomorrow morning at 5am lol. Thats pretty badass, out of the 17 what would you say your favorite one you have owned overall is? What power package did you have in it? I will say Tony at DCB being apart of a boat build definitely makes you feel very comfortable that guy was put on earth to build boats.

I did ask Bob I don't personally want to post his opinions out of respect but he gave me good advice for the conditions I would be using it for. Another reason why its easy to lean toward Teague motors try calling someone from Mercury and getting the same person on the phone to have a long convo with you, not gonna happen. Teague is as solid and dependable as it gets in my opinion.

I don’t have any experience with Eliminator, but have had a M29 with 565’s and M31 with 860’s. The quality of the boats are top notch and Tony is a great part of the purchase and product. He always has made time for me and helped with any issue. They flew Eric out to help on an update on my M29 and picked my M31 up and did a fix all for free. If they had a 31-34 true tunnel that would of been my next boat. I would do mercury 1100’s if I built a 31 or 35. Nothing against Teague , it is just easier to get Mercury work done where I live. I had a Teague 800 in a 28 Howard and it was bullet proof. The 368 Skater with 1100’s that is for sale now looks like a decent buy with a tilt trailer for 775k if you wanted to be on the water now.

I follow him on Instagram seems like a nice guy. His 33X Speedster is pretty amazing. As much as I love the 1400's he has I am most impressed with the full cap he had done on the boat it makes a boat look so much cleaner in my opinion. Thats a guy who knows what to spend his money on for sure.

Thanks for the input, thats pretty much what I am looking for is support and someone willing to stand behind their product. I know they cant always fix and solve everything ESPECIALLY if its user error but just having someone who can deliver a boat completely dialed in who you can call and will pick up after the fact is going to be a big part of my decision. Glad you commented my Eliminator I have now is a single engine 28 Daytona LP I have had it for 5 years with a 915HP blower motor. About two years ago when I first thought about selling it I thought get something brand new but stay in a single engine boat obviously single engine single drive is half the price up front as far as power goes, and half the price yearly for maintenance. I originally hit eliminator for a quote on a single engine 28 Speedster but they said they weren't going to do any more single engine 28 Speedsters that I would have to get a 27 Speedster if I wanted a single engine set up. The 27 is just a little to low profile and small for what I am wanting so thats when I originally started looking at the DCB M29 with a single engine set up prior to where Im at now as far as what I am wanting. What good things and bad things can you point out about the M29?

My 29 was very load sensitive with the 565’s, I think that’s a lot of weight on the back of that boat. I was never happy with the way that setup rolled over. I know it’s not much of a length difference but rough water handling was so much better in the 31. The 31 with six’s was much more stable, especially running hard in a turn. I don’t know how much better I would of liked the 29 with the 6’s. If I built a new center pod boat it would be a 31 with 1100’s. That setup would do everything in well my opinion.

Makes sense I kind of feel the same with my 28 with single engine set up getting on plane seems like more effort out of the boat then needed, and I am afraid Id feel the same if I put big power in another single engine set up. I heard Bob Teague say great things about the M31.

I had a f29 with a Teague 850 and it ran 105ish. The m29 is going to be a much bigger boat then a 27 or 28 speedster. The m29 is a big boat and can handle the havasu chop.

We now have a M31 with 700’s and it feels bigger on the trailer then the 29. My wife use to be comfortable with the 29 but the 31 she still doesn’t like launching it and driving it around.

M31 with 700’s is the perfect boat for me and my family. Big enough to handle havasu and sporty enough to rip 120+. We only use it a couple times a year so we didn’t look at getting the big turbo motors. Insurance is killer on the 1350’s.

Best of luck on your decision

I don,t think they will build you a 1350 boat with out some history or training , Skater would not care , and yes I love my 700 M 31 .

Please reach out to me and I will be happy to answer any and all questions you have on both boats. (619) 442.0300. Our 31 is a fair comparison to a 33 Speedster. the 35 is a bigger boat with a lot more freeboard. Our 31 and 35 will accommodate the TCM and Mercury 1100 and 1350 QC4V. Not sure the 33 Eliminator will accommodate the QC4V engines.

I think the 33x looks better than the m35 but I would still say DCB all the way. Eliminator builds a great boat but DCB is on the next level.

What ever happened or what was the final story on i believe was the first 33x that had a catastrophic failure during the Eliminator regatta? And how many 33x’s have they built? I’d have to definitely aim my money at something with a strong positive track record.

I would choose DCB over Eliminator but it’s not fair to say that the 33X has hull issues when multiple M35s have flipped. Freak accidents happen and speed multiples the risk factor, every go fast manufacturer has had accidents.

Wonder if they are replacing the Hull?
