I was in that mess. Through there when they were trying to load it up on the truck. What the hell is he doing in the carpool lane? How did he get ejected seemed like a single vehicle TA.

I thought I read that the wife was driving and potentially fell asleep. Wonder if the guy ejected was in the passenger seat or the back of the RV.

I didn't see any doors or windows open as the motorhome slammed into the center divider? Could that guy possibly be hitching a ride on the roof of it?

It’s legal for an RV or even an Greyhound to be in the carpool lane.

Better to be thrown to safety.

Do you think his shirt was torn off or was he driving without one?

My first wife was making some sandwiches when I had to slam on the brakes for car that spun out in front of me she flew thru the motor home and landed up on the dash
Busted the windshield but didn’t go thru
Didn’t even get hurt except for couple bruises
First thing she said was to my daughter
That’s why you wear your seatbelt

Where did he fall out from? I’d assume the side window when she had hit the center divider but it’s closed. I don’t see another way that he would’ve been able to clear the center median.

I would bet those seat belts aren't even bolted to the actual chassis frame. But then again if they were and you stayed buckled in a really bad wreck you would likely be the only thing still attached to the chassis.

My buddy Alf was on scene right when it happened. Said he didn't see the man who was ejected right away. Said the lady was frantically asking were her husband was . Alf ran down the freeway and found him . Man was awake and knew where he was . I saw Alf doing the interview on TV at dinner but , the sound was off . I talked to him and he said it was a crazy few minutes he will never forget .

Serious arguments too. "My cousin's friend knows a guy that was thrown clear when his car flipped, he woulda been dead if he was wearing a seatbelt. You'll never catch me strapped in with one."

No seat belts are actually bolted to the chassis. They are all through bolted to the floor pan. Along with the seats. Now, that is better than what motorhome seat belts are attached to. I believe the "good ones" are screwed to the subfloor. No through bolts, no steel, nothing. Except maybe the driver's seat on certain models (all class C front seats are secured just like standard vehicles though).

When we had our motorhome we used our seatbelts in the driver and passenger seats but not one else used there seatbelts in back of the Rv.

That's crazy he flew out the drivers window right past his wife and she didn't know it. Imagine seeing him fly out onto your side of the freeway as your driving opposite direction....pucker factor x's 10.
Nice convienent plug for his future podcast as a sports journalist..
Great way to capatalize on a sign from god. I hope it works out well for him and he has a full & speedy recovery....
What a story.

I remember those arguments… haha everyone said.

Then my brother got in a roll over accident and of the three people in the car, the two where seatbelts were killed. The person riding shotgun was thrown out the window and walked away.

Sadly my brother and the girl were on the wrong end of that.

😟🥺 I'm so sorry to read that.😢

Rollover safety standards were nonexistent early on, cars now can withstand alot in comparison.

And to be clear, I’m not saying seatbelts are bad.

However, in serious rollover events, and I don’t mean the car just tipping over or going on its roof, but a multiple rollover event (where it’s flipping over and over as my brother was involved in) can be helped by modern advances like airbags in the B pillar, etc.

However, the issue that comes to play in the multiple rollover events is the head snapping back-and-forth & side to side. It’s not a real big deal in a situation where car just flips over on the freeway. In a situation like that the airbag is very helpful and will keep you from hitting your head on the B pillar.

But in my brothers’ unique situation… He went a little wide on a turn as they were approaching the antennas on the top of Saddleback mountain. The front passenger tire went over the edge. It caused the vehicle to flip unknown many of times as it tumbled down a 1200 to 1500‘ cliff. Those who were seatbelted in, ended up with broken necks.

When we got hit and rolled 3 times in our old Yukon we didn't have side impact air bags and our front air bags didn't go off. It wasn't a front or rear collision. Wife (who was driving), our 3 kids at the time (1, 3, and 5 in correct car seats), and myself were all seatbelted in. None of us had more than a couple small cuts from broken glass and sore backs (the wife mostly). Had we not been belted in, Im not so sure who would be here or in what shape we would be in.

You roll 1k feet down a cliff, its a miracle you survive, no matter what safety equipment is on the car short of a pair of wings.

There was a wreck here a few days ago in which a little boy was thrown out and died, but the three kids who weren’t tossed died also. As did the drunk-ass woman who hit the freeway overpass support column at 100 mph. Worse yet, two of the kids weren’t hers. If she wasn’t dead, she should be hung.

Sorry to hear about your brother but surviving an ejection during a roll over is extremely rare.
