I am about to place my order via PPEI (http://ppei.com/) for my 07 LBZ. There are TONS of tuners out there and many different set-ups so I am just looking to see who is running what!

I currently have the Banks 6 gun with iQ. I like it, but I am ready for more. The power is there and the MPG's are there, but I know I can get way more bang for my buck out of the EFI. I just like how safe the Banks is. I have had zero issues with it. With that being said, I will more than likely be putting it up for sale so if you know somebody looking.....

I have read a lot of good things about EFI live.

If I keep my truck, I'll give it a shot.

EFI is a much more capable tool.

With that said all the off the shelf programmers are designed so people don't blow up there vehicles. Using any of the tuning software EFI live ,hp tuners,etc... is a very easy and fast way to destroy tour engine unless you know what you are doing.

My recommendation would be to find a local tuner that specializes in tuning your application on a dyno.

There are a lot of different proven tunes available from vendors on DP. There's not a whole lot of reputable local (So Cal) tuner guys. When is the last tractor pull event you've seen in So Cal? lol The diesel guys out in the Mid-West and The South know their stuff.

EFI? Yup.
Love the DSP switch. I can cruise in an economy tune and if I want to turn up the fire, it's only a second away.

If you haven't done any hardparts changes to the engine, these guys are great. The tunes are conservative and I hear they run well. Making tuning suggestions and changes for a modded engine is tough over the phone.

Yesterday, I spent four hours at the go-fast shop fooling around with tuning trying to get the 60% over injectors to clean up and still spool the turbos quickly.

EFI makes and allows more parameter changes than a canned tuner does.

My guy doesn't do any new tuning work. They'd rather not deal with the smog cops.

HP Tuners for me. I'm tuning LS engines though, not a Duramax.

I wouldn't either. The guys that made my last tune were caught and given two choices: Pay an insanely high fine or go out of business. Last I heard, they moved their operations to another state.

I know a couple shops in CA won't touch a truck unless you bring in on a trailer and it must be registered as a off-highway vehicle.

There's a few guys in Canada making programmers as well whom I've read nothing but praises about.

Kory is a great choice. Idaho Rob at ATP Trucks is great as well. I leaned toward Rob because of time zone. Any issues easy to call and resolve. Without waiting a day or two.

I have an 02 and a 09 duramax with EFI live on both both will get 20 MPG at 70-75 mph and the power is great.I like the ability to adjust the tune for heavy towing. The 09 would go to reduced power when towing before the change as the DPF would create back pressure and the ECM would then respond by reducing the power and it would then run about 15 MPH,It was actually a dangerous thing and I decided to do the mod to eliminate the problem.

I'm running an EFI Live tune in my 2011 LML from MotorOps out of Canada. I added a lift pump and an Edge Insight CTS monitor for the engine vitals and it's made my truck a whole new animal. I've heard good things about PPEI. Have fun!

I talked with Ryan at PPEI last week about EFI Live tuning a Ram. EFI live is the only program that addresses the challenges with the 68rfe transmissions in the Dodge.

I would only let Rob Coddens tune my duramax.

Bottom line - Any of the big names mentioned is going to be a great choice to liven up your truck.

There are only so many ways you can tune a stock motor correctly, and if they did it wrong, people would raise hell.

Currently #1,2, and 3rd place NHRDA season leaders all have the same SoCal engine builder. Rob, being tied for first.

You buy the tunes and switch yet?:D

I thought you were a Ford guy?

I drive a Ford yes. I have been around Rob a lot and seen how his stuff runs etc....He has also tuned all of my friends duramax trucks. He is just who I would call is all.

CS is right though only so much you can do with a stock motor, fuel & turbo.

I get wanting duel fuel on my truck...I add that and it is an instant 75 to 100 HP. But I really don't need a 600 HP truck.

Coo.

You get to the track much this year?

Not really. Truck has been down. Just finished a full build. Not completely full, the fuel rails, block and crank are still GM. :D
Goes to Mike L for a trans workover this month.

Very nice! Did you balance the crank and everything?

Yup.. Still externally balanced, but with aftermarket rods and pistons, it's a must at the power levels these things generate.

I run a Chevy LS firing order now also. Helps the crank stress issues. Sometimes they break right behind 1&2. Even some stock motors break cranks. :thumbsdown
All that took was a cam and a repin of the injectors at the harness. The ECM has no idea.

Very nice now you can really spin it HA. Funny what adjustments can be made with these things. Like 5.9 ECM's on the 6.7 etc...

I will be using him too. However, I just ran into an issue. He won't (can't) ship to California so I either have to find someone I trust outside of Cali to ship my order to and have them ship it to me, or go with someone else :(

They are very versitile and can do alot. I've seen alot of what they've done and come highly recommended (along with alot of the other people that were recommended). I just posted this, but had my heart set on PPEi until I found out they won't ship to California. I am working on something to get it here.

If you're running a Dmax, try MotorOps - they're based out of Canada and they work with Nick from DuramaxTuner. DuramaxTuner is based in Illinois and specializes in emissions compliant tunes (and Nick knows his shit, he also does Cummins tunes), but for delete tunes he sends them to MotorOps. I got mine from MotorOps. I first tried the emissions compliant tunes to see if that would do anything for my frequent DPF regenerations or my terrible fuel mileage, which it didn't. When I decided to step over to the Dark Side, I paid them $125 and he emailed me 5 deleted tunes. I just plugged the AutoCal (handheld thing you load the tunes to your truck) into my computer, saved the emissions compliant tunes, loaded in the delete tunes, flashed my truck and now it runs awesome.

My good buddy has the spade from DuramaxTuners and told me he would give me a sweet deal. I did my research on them and found that most people were happy with Nick and the tunes he provided. It would actually be significantly cheaper for me to go this route vs PPEI or anyone else but for some reason I got stuck on PPEI.

The more and more I think about it, I am thinking I'd like to save the $$$$ and invest the $ saved in the new insight for monitoring. What year is your truck?

Too bad you don't know anyone with a river house...

Any takers? Someone on RDP might be able to do a little mail relay.

Or.. Buy an Autocal and license from a dealer here in SoCal and have your guy email you the tunes.

If he got the tunes from DuramaxTuner then his tunes are emissions compliant, meaning that they will work with the emissions equipment intact. You will still have to pay for licensing fees to allow the tunes to work with your truck's VIN since it's burned to the ECM.

My truck is a 2011 Silverado 2500 HD, so I've got the DPF and DEF. My tune allowed me to remove the DPF, I disconnected the urea injection for the DEF, and shut off my EGR valve - I haven't installed a blocker plate yet just in case I need to make it smog compliant again.

Speaking of EGR blocker plates..

Tough access on a LML engine?

I've got one for an LBZ sitting on the shelf in the shop. Who wants it? Freeeeeeeee

I haven't even thought about installing a blocker plate - for me the truck runs fine without it. I'm sure running with the EGR functional for 110,000 miles has already gunked things up inside.

Blocker plate is just a positive way of keeping all the drive pressure going to where it's supposed to be. EGR on these trucks really coats the intake tracts.
I took a quick look at my buddy's LML, and there is a lot of extra stuff under there.

I bet your new tune really cleaned up the throttle response. I remember the power being really delayed and coming on like a hammer.

I have the plate for my LBZ sitting in my drawer. With all the work it takes to get it in, I figured it would just be easier to delete the damn thing....Only diff is I already have the plate lol....Not sure I want to spend the money on the delete kit.

Coldsteel who do you recommend? I have a 05 Duramax, the edge just went out. Truck sat in storage for two weeks and then wouldn't start, pulled all the edge and it started. The edge display was reading high egts before it stopped working. So now I need a new programmer. It was 10 years old.

High as in 2000 degrees?
Programmers break. I had to warranty a PPE once.
PM sent.

The blocker plate just slides in.. Was so long ago I put it in, I just recall some skinny wrenches to back the bolts off and a screwdriver to pry the up pipe away from the EGR and tapped it in. 20 minutes if you drink a beer while you're doing it.

I thought that it would be that easy but when I actually looked it up online, it said it would take at least an hour so I said fuck it and it's been sitting in my drawer for about 6 months

Look up Mike at Underground Diesel Performance in Las Vegas. Worth the trip, once installed he will add, remove HP in areas of your tune whenever and however many times you want. Really knows his stuff.
