When this happened 4-5 years ago and we were in the totality direct path its was UNBELIEVABLE how many people flocked to this place. 100s of THOUSANDS of people were here! It was a fkn madhouse around here for almost 2 weeks.

Outside the roughly 125 mile wide path of totality its really nothing. But in the center of totality you can look directly at the sun through binoculars and telephoto lens without any protection and see the corona shooting out from behind the moon and it is spectacular, unlike anything you will ever see. That's why people go.
I went to Todos Santos Baja to see one in 1991, Curacao in 1998, Idaho in 2017. But I just cancelled my refundable travel plans for both Texas and Buffalo NY due to high probability of cloud cover which would ruin the experience. I booked two locations thinking one would be cloud free.

We are in the path of totality, but I don’t get the hype. My auditors at Deloitte flew out to their training center in Westlake for the week just to see it….

I've never been in a total. But...

I have a good friend that him and his dad go every time. He's sent me pic of it turning pitch black in the middle of it all.

The temp drops DRAMATICALLY. It gets Cold almost instantly!!!

Such a trip.

Makes you really think how dependent we are on the sunshine, for just about Everything we have.

Definitely an awesome experience to be in a total.

Totality is wild! When it happened here everything went silent, no birds chirping, etc.

I believe for us it was late morning, this was taken from my cell phone.

You’ve hit the reason that there is so much hype around the eclipse: $$$. Kind of like the Olympics. Airfare, hotel, food and rental cars. The hysteria also spurs local sales. Everything is taxed, fee’d or otherwise marked up. If the eclipse were visible to everyone, there would be no fuss. Might not even get reported in the news. Insanity.

In the path here. News has been hyping it for awhile. Especially the traffic impact after the eclipse. My dad and step-mom are on a 30 trailer trailer road trip from California with two other couples. They booked their RV park res East of Dallas 1.5 years ago. Their all retired. I'm taking Monday off to spend the day with them. If the eclipse is a bust due to clouds, at least it'll be a good day hanging out drinking beer. Will be interesting if it's a traffic nightmare or not.

Page and Southen UT were like that during the last one

We four wheeled from Page up to Kodachrome then took a FS rd over toward Kanab.

Sat and waited. It got dusk, quiet and cold. Its actually weird to see short shadows and no sun. It was a good time, afterwards we four wheeled into Kanab for the night

Looks good for Northern NH. Our kid is going to a friends in N. NH for totality. Where we are it’s like 96%. I’ve been told anything less than 100 is nothing.

My sister is in the 100% path in southern Illinois. She says it is a shit show around her.

The last one we where in the 100% path. It was a shit show. My brother in law made a couple grand letting people tent cam in his field.

We packed up and camped at the river(boat access only) to get away from the mess! It was stupid the price people were paying to see it. Some Japanese people paid my buddies dad like $15k for him to take them up in his helicopter to see it.

Only pic I can find on my phone.

Sky went dark, birds quit chirping, everything went silent. It was a pretty eerie feeling for about 15min. Was cool to see but nothing I would travel or pay to see nor travel for miles.

I had never seen so many drones in the sky it was crazy they were everywhere!

Is this where I have to eat special applesauce and then go to sleep with a purple triangle blanket over my face and torso..? 🤔
That is the comet tail diet, you are supposed to eat moonpies for the eclipse.

The wife talked me into going... Helps it is in Kentucky, and we will be stopping at my favorite distillery of all time.

Hotels are 3x or more normal, and I'm sure everything is going to be fucking packed. Welding hoods, and speshul glasses are already in the truck.

I live int he "path of totality" in Western NY. And yes they hype is beyond inexplicable. On May 11, 1994 the EXACT SAME path of totality occurred. I recall working in GE's Electronics Park, and went outside to catch the eclipse at the time. It was interesting, and there were a few who exited the building to catch it, but the majority of people never left their desks or workstations to take it in. None of the schools were closed, nor businesses closed, or anything else it was just another day, that, by the way there was a solar eclipse today.

It was interesting, but when it was over, I thought to myself " That's it? That's all there is? I felt a little disappointed because there wasn't some epic climax. It sort of just faded away just as faded in. It got twilight like and the streetlights came on, but that was pretty much it.

I had to depart Rochester, on Friday to make it to New Zealand, where I am now, because I couldn't get a flight out on Sunday or Monday

We went to the last full eclipse in St Anthony's Sand Dunes.
Farmers anticipated the crowds and blocked off access to their fields. Busses and tourists vehicles galore all over Rexville and St Anthonys and the dunes offered a one day parking pass.

NASA employees showed up and camped next to us. They did a planetarium show for the kids the night before and had some sorta special telescopes set up & free viewing "glasses" for the kids to use:
The temp drops from 90F to damn near freezing instantly, winds swirl and change directions, it's a fantastic experience.

Girls were dressed nice and tart makeup because a dune-ing couple asked them to be in their wedding on the dunes immediately after the Eclipse.
NASA lady set up some special kinda telescopes for the girls to look thru:

Can you imagine what people hundreds of years ago thought was happening when they were in the path of totality? 😂

That had to be a few minutes of chaos for them lol
Gas lighting chief claimed he did it on his command and he'll do it again and kill everyone if they don’t do what he says.

Just talked to an agent out in the Hill Country NW of San Antonio. Said their small town is completely overrun with people and traffic. It will be worse today and tomorrow. Didn't sound like she liked it at all.....lol

I’ll be working in a quarry that will experience total eclipse (Southeast Missouri). The machine I am working on is at the highest point in the quarry so should have a good view.

We knew nothing about the eclipse last fall and were traveling back from the Bar 10 Ranch and couldn’t figure out why the hotel prices tripled………

We went to the last full eclipse in St Anthonys Sand Dunes. We booked a year in advance before the town woke up and realized the hoards that will arrive, and they did.

Farmers anticipated the crowds and blocked off access to their fields. It proved to be a wise move. Busses and tourists vehicles galore all over Rexville and St Anthonys and the dunes offered a one day parking pass.

NASA employees showed up and camped next to us on their own dime. They did a planetarium show for the kids the night before and had some sorta special telescopes set up & free viewing "glasses" for the kids to use:

It was amazing. Glad we did it. Way more than we imagined.

I was in the center of the path in 2017 on a project outside of St. Louis. I flew the wife in for a few days and we found some little podunk town to watch it. It was pretty damn neat to take in and I'm glad we had the experience.

I highly recommend it if you are close. Next one is quite a ways off...

I 100% didn't remember I have a kick ass telescope until Thursday 🤷🏼‍♂️. What I don't have is a solar filter 🤦🏼‍♂️. Given the cloud cover expected for tomorrow, I'll just use my glasses from the one a few months ago.
