I know that nothing is theft proof and if a crook wants it they’ll get it but anyone find a lock worth a shit for these E-Bikes?

I watched a guy under the Huntington Beach pier walk up to a bike, cut the lock, and off he went in a matter of seconds.

I bought my daughter and I each Super 73’s today. Awesome little bike with full suspension. They rip around pretty good and should be another activity my 14 year old and I can do together.

Just want to protect these expensive things as best I can.

They have cordless bolt cutters and cut off wheels now. Not much to stop them. I bought hardened chains and a couple of combo locks for ours. We lock them up in well populated areas and use multiple chains to at least slow them down and hopefully someone will see them and step up.
Good luck.

Nothing stops a battery powered cut off wheel in a tweakers hands. Nothing!

I suggest an active GPs tracker hidden.

When mine was taken, I had an airtag but the speaker wasnt disabled.

They cut thru my kryptonite lock.

Oh and if it goes over 15mph, your homeowners or business insurance wont cover. That was state farms take on it.

I miss mine to this day. I refuse to buy another and get it stolen until I move to a more like minded state.

Damn that sucks. I remember when that happened not to long ago.

I’m calling my insurance company on Monday to see what my options are when they’re $4k each. Can’t figure out for the life of me why they’re that much but I’m definitely going to protect my losses as best as possible.

Only thing that will save you is there are so many bikes now they may pick anther one, I go double lock with an ABUS and then a cable, I don't leave it out of eye sight. especially in HB.

Get a desert eagle or a 6'' model 29.

Supposedly I lost those in the Titanic debacle.

I’m getting the feeling I’m pretty much fucked so being over insured is my next step.

I use these 2 locks on my E-bike and I'm in downtown Huntington Beach and Newport Beach often and have never had a issue. Plus as others have mentioned our group tries to sit in a area where we have full view of our bikes

I used essentially this lock on my moped in Honolulu during college etc. it only keeps the honest people honest a lot get stolen close to campus or on campus with the same lock in less than a couple of minutes.

OP No matter what you choose you were just slowing them down… My wife has been putting these trackers on pretty much everything we have I don’t know the name offhand but they are ridiculously accurate and notify my phone. She’s got them glued to trailers, bicycles, My snowmobile etc. they weren’t crazy expensive either and didn’t require a subscription (off Amazon). Invest in a solid lock like @Don65 posted in the fix a couple of trackers.

I lock ours with a simple cable lock, that isn’t easy to see from far away. We never let the bikes out of our sight. If we’re going to eat in a restaurant, the bikes are close by and within a few seconds of me getting to them.

The tweekers around ASU in Tempe just cut off the components ( brakes, shifters etc) and take the front wheel too if not locked with the frame and sell the stuff on Craigslist.

My son’s roommate had all his components cut off when they couldn’t get the bike free.

How about a motion detector with a siren. You already have the battery power to run it.

I had to leave a job one day when I set the alarm off. It was so loud inside the house my head started to throb and I started to get a headache.

Nothing is crackhead proof, but we use one of those Kryptonite chains shown above on our S73s..we also don’t leave them anywhere out of sight…I figure the chain is just to slow them down a bit or move on to a bike that’s not locked up

Dang, $4k each? I know they can get pricey. I paid $2200 for 2 bikes a few years ago. Not top of the line but work great, 48v 1000watt motors
Spend the extra money and get rid of those tie downs too. ;)

Ya they’re not cheap but these things are rugged. Full suspension front & rear and just beefy compared to the others. This brand has a crazy youth following. My 14 year old wanted one. Can’t beat them, join’em. This generation requires some strategy thinking to be in their lives to a meaningful degree, it’s exhausting.

Funny you mention the tie-downs. I have dozens hanging on the wall for my dirt bikes. Well… an impulse buy while at breakfast with my kid left me needing tie-downs. Bought the cheapest ones to get the bikes home lol

Neighbor’s wife just texted to say they got both of their Ebikes stolen earlier this morning from HB. They were camping, woke up and they were gone. Found one a little later. Tweakers had it. Cops came in 5-10 minutes and arrested the guys.

Pic of the bust. 😁

I’ve got a couple really expensive cruisers.
Unfortunately, I’ve resolved to never letting them out of my sight …. Sadly it’s really the only way to ensure they won’t get kipe’d.

(Edit) …. One time Years ago I had some dirt bag freak-out on my bike at the beach …him “Dude, is that a Cook Bros”??? … me ‘yep’… him, “Duuuuude, let me take it for a cruise”…. Me … ‘nope’ …. Him, “duuude where am I gonna go”???? …. Me… ‘right down the fucking board walk to steal it, so beat it kook”!!! 😎😎😎

I use this lock with my S73. It’s a heavy best but I use it anyway. Seen a nice lock cut at the gym and my bike was still there so worked that day.
I adjust the straps on my backpack so it sits on the seat and not all on my shoulders.

I have 1 of the Kryptoniteocks. I have a old New York one also. They used to call it the New York Fogetabout it lock. The key mechanism is not working from sitting for years.

With that said I have a 20v Dewalt grinder in each work truck. That would cut either one off in a minute or so. So my e bike stays in sight when at the beach bars. What suxks is Hermosa removed the bike racks across from Hennessys imagine they were of no good with the thefts. And possibly held accountable.

HB camp ground next to pier is like a Walmart for tweakers, best to go with a rusty huffy and a chest of budlight.

I threw hands with a tweeker at 4am at Sunset Vista if that’s the campground you’re taking about.

I couldn’t sleep so was sitting in the front of the motorhome watching tv while family slept. My windows are easy to see out but difficult to see in.

Anyways, I see a tweeker on a bike trying to steal a neighbors bike.

I don’t even think and run outside up on this shit bag. He decides to square up and next thing I know I’m having a blast with this guy lol. Poor bastard starts screaming waking up the campground. 45 minutes later and cops are at my motorhome. Nothing came of it.

Those tweeker fuckers troll that campground once everyone goes to bed looking for easy opportunities. Cops said they want the bike tow behind kids carts to carry their worthless junk.

I haven’t talked to him yet. Just a barrage of texts from his wife to mine. Sounds like a complete shit show. The video of the arrest didn’t go as long as i would have hoped. 😉

I have the one on the left for our bikes. We also park next to the police station at Cruisers most of the time.🤣

Really Funny HB Bike Thief Story . . . .

Many years ago . . . Circa 1996-ish . . . there was a rash of vagrant 'trashcan vultures' who'd come around on trash day and pick through your trash . . . and steal stuff if it was left openly around your house or in the back of your truck . . . bikes, surfboards, tools, etc. , etc.

So a couple of the neighbor kids & a few of my buddies got the wild hair to set up a 'trap', on the eve before trash day.
There may have been some beers in the garage involved that day as well . . . 🤷‍♂️

So we set a bike up on it's kickstand on the sidewalk, right next to the curb & the trash cans.
The young brothers 'Jay & Jon' from across the street & I all got long garden hoses and connected them together & we set up an ambush where we waited in the bushes for any 'takers' from 3 sides, across the street, our house, and the house next door. ( I think the brothers were staged behind a car across the street with the hose coiled up and charged. 😆

Didn't take long and here comes a beater old Ford Courier with 2 dudes putt'n down the street.
They eyed the bike as they rolled by, and continued past it, then went to the end of our cul-de-sac and made the u-turn.

Sure as shit, they stopped right at the bike, and one dude hops out . . . we waited till he had the bike and was starting to roll with it . . . then it was a full on assault of the garden hoses with power nozzles from 3 sides !!!!

Being all lit, we didn't just 'spray' the guy . . . it was a full on blast to the face & head from close range . . . . we gave it to the driver too !!!!😆

The truck started to pull away a few yards . . . then the dude dropped the bike, and ran back towards the truck . . . right about then the driver stops, and starts to get out of the truck looking to flare-up on us . . . bad mistake !!!

I'm cussing at the guys now . . . telling them to beat it or we'll kick the shit out of them . . . but our buddy 'Pete', who LOVED to fight and was REALLY good at it, was on a bee-line sprint right at the guys with 'game-on' in his eyes !!!!

They saw the size of Pete and the look in his eyes bolting at them, and they hopped right back in that courier and took of out of there FAST !!!!😆😅😂🤣

By this time, a bunch of the neighbors had come out of their houses to see what all the commotion was about & we're all on the ground rolling, half-drunk & being stupid. . . with half the neighbors shaking their heads in dismay, the other half laughing their asses-off . . . . oh the good ol days !!!!! 😜🤪

You would think the PD would use a few bait bikes and do something. But they don't care. Torrance police used to give a fuc. But not any more. Buddies shop has got hit 3 times lately for 80k worth of electronics. They could care less. Said if they do a DNA test on the blood left from the broken glass. It would be 2 years to get the results. My Moms block they hit every night. Rash of theft and home intrusions. Criminals have a free for all everywhere these days.
