assuming it has a GM ECU and ran good before......why would it need a "tune"? i ask because i own a dyno and see this all the time........where there is a mechanical or wiring issue but nobody can work on anything any more and therefor assume it a tune problem.

the MOST common problems develop in the fuel system. these cars sit with pump gas in them and foul up the fuel system and injectors.......throw into the mix all the dirt from offroading and fuel cell foam breaking down...........

Runs good at while cruising it, stomp on it and it falls on its face, let off and it goes. Bought it about 6 months ago, took it out for a test day and it was good, but I had the wife and kid in it so we just putted around. Then I had it out at KOH for a week and it was good, ran it around mostly cruising and getting used to the handling of the car. I noticed that it would cut out a bit that week and just drove within the limits it worked well.

After KOH I took it into a shop and had them replace some seals on trans, plugs, wires, oil change, air filter and go over everything a bit. It feels like a fuel mapping issue to me, but that’s just a guess, I can’t say that it wasn’t like this before as it’s new to me. Fires up and purrs like a cat, all good until you romp on it.

thoughts?

DI or port injected?

definitely get into the fuel system. proper filtration is a must, need a 100micon (stainless screen) filter before the pump and 10 micron (paper element) before the injectors. flow or replace the injectors.

could be a bad MAP sensor (had that one other day) or bad throttle position sensor. can also be wiring. many of these cars have a small 4 position fuse block for the engine harness with blade style fuses. sand and grit works its way in and causes an erratic connection.

Thank you for the insight, having a 20,000 foot optic of the situation is all I need. it’s getting dropped off with Bruce at CBM next week and sorted by someone who knows some shit I don’t know and messes with this stuff every day. 😂

Its a cool little car, nothing crazy and my girls seem to enjoy tooling around in it, if it causes me no grievances it will stay in the stable. Gotta get it sorted first to give it a shot at sticking around for a while.

Sounds like you're set. I pass by Redline 4 times a day. Lots of badass rides in and out of there daily. If CBM can't get you fixed up, I'd check them out. In Anaheim right off of Lakeview/orangethorpe.

Danzio or Redline

@whiteworks i will say though if its a factory gm computer turnkey has those figured out. When i used to race a 10 car we had a factory computer from turnkey. The 10 car team i help out now runs a motec with a danzio tune. My personal car is a ls2 with a redline tune.
I dont want to stir the pot with CBM as i have never dealt with them directly but have had mutliple buddies have terrible experiences with them.

We have used turn key in the ultra4 cars for the last decade, flawless the entire time. I’ve had multiple people point me to CBM that run some pretty serious buggies and also a friend called the owner today and let him know I’m coming out. My car is just old school stock stuff, nothing special and for anyone who has a clue, Id imagine it’s a walk in the park. My expectations are very simple, just needs to do whatever it’s supposed to do, nothing more, nothing less. Like I said, it causes me any grievances and down the road it goes LOL.

I‘ll go on record for Turnkey, Flawless performance on two different race cars, in 10 KOH races Running 4400 class we have never had one engine issue, we have broken and fucked up everything else though 😂😂😂

Sounds like a fuel delivery issue to me, I would start with a new fuel filter, check fuel line pressure, throttle position sensor.

Also there are a couple of sensors that can be swapped pretty easily, it will run but then fall on its face. We scratched our heads for a month trying to figure out why the engine, harness, and computer that we just installed from TurnKey wouldn't run right. A quick email to them sorted it out, I swapped the sensors and now it runs like a raped ape.

I’m guessing your on the right track with that thought. I think it will be short work with for an experienced shop to diagnose and resolve. I’d put our team on it, but everyone’s running businesses and will bust my balls for getting $5000.00 an hour in manpower on my stupid little buggy issue😂

Some of you guys don't seem know much about CBM.

He will definitely not need to go anywhere else ...

I just looked at the email, it was the cam sensor plugs that were reversed. You might try that before you take it in for service.

Like i said above i havent dealt with them directly but know multiple friends with terrible experiences. Have a good buddy that was royaly bent over from them with no lube a couple years ago and after spending the majority of the first trip in the middle of the desert fixing there shotty work i lost any confidence i had in using them in the future. Was also in barstow 2 weeks ago with some buddies testing a class 1 car that had finally ditched the cbm motor that has been nothing but trouble and had a new motor built from a different builder, I can go on with more Stories but they are all not my personal experience. I know there are plenty of happy cbm customers but i have met quite a few unhappy ones.

Crazy. I've known Bruce and his crew since he started CBM. Never heard an I'll word till now.

Every shop has its horror stories. Sucks.

Dropped the buggy off with Bruce at CBM yesterday, they called today and said come pick it up. Plugged it into the computer and everything was good, he told his tech to throw it on the dyno as the problem occurred under load. All good and then it cuts out, wtf, head scratching going on, starving for fuel.

a little bit of diagnostic work in proper sequence and the culprit was identified. When I took it in after KOH and had all the basic service work done that included a fuel filter, my buddy who did the service work at his shop left a clamp on the fuel line, now I am gonna make fun of him for “a while” LOL problem solved, car runs like a Raped Ape now.

$180.00 bill from CBM and worth every penny, had them check everything out as it’s a new to me car and that provides a better sense of trust for me in the mechanics of this machine. They could have told me some bullshit, hell even thatit needs a new engine and I’d of said okay and wrote the check, I like this guy and he was straight up, I’ll be back.
