Flying into Durango, Colorado on Friday for my step-daughters wedding. I'm actually officiating the wedding ceremony. Anyone have any recommendations for restaurants in the area?

Eolus, Seasons, Chimayo on Main. Casual bar food, Steamworks on second ave., Derailed Pour House on Main. Mexican, Gazpacho, Tequilas, Zia's.
Cajun food, The Roadhouse on HWY 3.
Everywhere in Durango is super casual. Make a reservation. There are probably more restaurants per capita than San Francisco.
Eoulus is one of the best but bring your Gold Card.

We will have to try that we always go to Tequilas. Always wanted to get to James Ranch but we are usually to beat to go out there.

Steamworks, Ore House (verify it's open), we also like The Balcony for barfood. Another vote for Zia's. The Diamond Belle is a must-do for the atmosphere, even if it's only for drinks, they sometimes do a Sunday brunch, if I recall. Food is pretty good. James Ranch Grill if it's warm enough- all outside seating.

Skip Animas Brewing and the Serious Texas BBQ.

Also, I would try to find time to get into the Hot Springs if possible.

Durango is a super cool town, take your pick on what you want most places are legit. Never had a bad time there. Enjoy.

Gazpacho is New Mexican food. They roast their own chilis and make their own salsa. A little bit on the hot side, taste wise.

Also....breakfast, local favorite is the Durango diner on main. Killer food and a lot of it. Great homemade green chili salsa. You can buy a bottle to take home..
Another great Mexican place is the Hacienda on North Main below 32nd street. It's our go to Mex food place.

It can be. We took the train both ways in the last car, so we had a great view, no children, and our private bar in our car. It was a much different view going down, and we really enjoyed it. Standing out the back of the car on the little balcony made for 270° views.

The van ride was $10 then, probably it’s more than that now.
I love trains especially steamers but one way was plenty.

The air conditioned bar car was worth the extra cost.

Durango is fun. Our go to is always steamworks. I also personally like to do the train one direction, but we usually stay in Silverton so we ride the train down and the bus back up.

When you are in Silverton, hit up eureka station.

As mentioned above there are several places to find great food, our two go to's are
the Ore House and 636 Main for some fine dining, 636 having the best atmosphere.

Sorry angiebaby I enjoyed Animas Brewing; I consumed several pints and great bar food on a daily basis while in town

The opposite is awesome. The bus leaves later, and gets there 40 minutes before the train arrives. You get your pick of the available restaurant seats. The ride back to town is nice in the canyon..

I forgot to add East by Southwest to my list of recommendations. Sushi yes but their tempura is really great. They are known for their mohito's and katoi martinis.
Never had a bad meal there in 15 years.
No matter where you eat, make a reservation a few days before. The leaf people have invaded town.

I know the owner. Lives in town during the restaurant season. Lets us fill up water tanks at his house and get free ice.

In the winter, he heads back to Arizona.

His name is Gary. Really cool guy. My wife went in to the diner by herself on mothers day years ago. Gary offered her a mimosa. My wife said, " you don't have a liquor license to sell mimosas". His answer was classic. "I'm not selling them. I'm giving them away".
Very cool guy who was a hard working owner that everyone loved.

You have to give yourself some time to tour the museum at the train station.
So much cool stuff to see.
You can smell the history, so to speak.
Give yourself a good hours time there, is amazing.

We've done it many times. A couple of the zips take you over the Animas river. It's not inexpensive but.....you'll never forget the experience.

We've done it many times. A couple of the zips take you over the Animas river. It's not inexpensive but.....you'll never forget the experience.

Ive heard about this and have some friends that did it. I think they said it was pretty expensive though, but said it was cool.

We took the train up and spent the night at the big hotel. Then took the train back the next day.
The train and the hotel are owned by the same guy, who had also just bought the Old Tucson movie studio.
He’s a really cool guy to chat with too.
