Alright boys, pretty sure we dont have to just talk about boat motors in this section. Figured why not get some info together on a duramax build i have in mind. I know plenty of guys on here are knowledgeable of diesels. I have played my a few build over the years. After talking with a few people and studying a few forums about builds i think i have my list of parts. Any thoughts, suggestions, personal experience, or changes are appreciated..

Truck has been perfect new for me. All the bad items have been removed on my 2008 since new. She has been free flowing and tuned for almost 300k miles now. Planning my revuild and looking to add some ponies for daily driving fun factor.
Trying to go for reliability and longevity another 150k plus..

here are a list of my parts that i am sure i will have Trent at Mad Tech Diesel combine and build for me.

- Fingers cast oval bowl pistons or Mahle race cast
- socal budget rods / carillos
- socal alternate fire cam for better harmonics and balance, maybe
- lml polished and keyed crank
- Socal billet end caps
- arp studs and bolts all over
- rebuild head with wagler rockers and push rods
- duramax tuner stealth 64 vvt turbo
- 40 over injectors. Still thinking of brands / new or reman etc.
- PPE up pipes / my oem are cracked at the flex joint
- lml driver side manifold
- fluidamper harmonic balancer
- machine work for block and honing etc.

Any idea about the increase in torque? It would be fun to build a performance diesel. Looking forward to the build.

Well i know there are a few torque levels we can play with on the build especially if i go with different compression ratios on the pistons. Current set up was on a dyno day gathering around 2012 and 150k miles ago haha.. One pull was 531hp and 986tq.
I would assume i could make safe 700hp and 1200 to 1400tq and still be able to run another 100k+ miles after the rebuild.

Same engiine with camshaft change to my Duramax cam. It is smaller than the OEM profile, but the valve events have been fixed....runs an average of 250 degrees cooler on EGT's, spools the turbo 800 rpm quicker....worst we have seen in gas mileage increase is 22%.....

Looks like a good selection of parts. Skip the Stealth 64 though. I used it in a compound setup on my last LML and it siezed up in the first 700 miles. Get a Danville turbo. They're new and not rebuilt like the Stealth turbos.

I personally would never do an aftermarket VGT turbo but if I did Fleece would be the guys for the Duramax.

Are you going to fire ring the block and heads for better sealing?

i am not set on the turbo honestly i have heard mixed thoughts on the stealth turbos gen1 at least. I was leaning towards the stealth only because i have a hard time passing on getting things from duramaxtuner at wholesale. But then again I like the danville stuff. Fleece cheetah were in my radar also.

I dont plan on doing it but has crossed my mind.

I have a good friend that we pulled his motor and had it built up. He went cheetah turbo, socal heads, fingers oval bowl cast pistons, alt fire camshaft, 50 overs in his lly and that thing ran and ran without issues for about another 150k then he sold it.

Did you change the comp ratio along with adding the cam and heads? I do like lower egts and better mileage haha. I plan on towing with this and keeping it after my rebuild for many many years so i am planning on keeping it a bit mild but still have fun on weekends when needed.

I have not been around the diesel world for awhile but I was in it deep for a long time. I do know Fleece is legit, always have been. Fun guys to have beers with also.

It was fun my team / friends won pro Street at TS a couple times in the later years when low 9's where ran. I was the first guy to have triple turbos.

Right on that had to be a sweet ride!! Was that i think Bucks 03 lb7? Never got to see the truck but heard and read about it. Either way cant beat the feel of all that torque from these diesels
