Figured we are a month out so I will start my annual Dumont halloween thread.
This year will be different. Middle girl is working and may only come for a day if at all. 😔 Oh well thats life LOL
Sounds like we will have the usual group.
Anyone else going to be out there? If so maybe well meet up for a beer. Heading out Thursday afternoon
Pics from the past ones.

The post on GlamisDunes has made me realize that I need to try Dumont for Halloween one year. I've seen a few videos where people go hard decorating the sxs and trailers. Looks like a good time. I have never been out there though. With the big G being 30 minutes closer, it never really made sense for me to drive further for less riding area.

Yeah I totally get that.
Definitely go check Dumont out once or twice. Dont go on Halloween expecting to have awesome dunes. That weekend is honestly not the best for riding. LOL More for the atmosphere and all that is going on for Halloween.
People go all out. Haunted houses, mazes and all the decorated cars and SXS. Trunk or treat is insane. It could honestly get a half mile long both sides. Kids will come back with a pillow case completely full and never made it through he whole thing.

I'd highly recommend you check it out at least once, but also recommend that you go with somebody that's familiar with Dumont. The camping situation is pretty different in the different areas, and having a guide for your first few times through the dunes makes it a lot more fun.

I have a few high desert friends that go out there. I was thinking about running up there with them some time. I looked at the map on the google, and was like, hmm? I wouldn't even know where to set up camp. LOL!

Knowing where to set up camp is definitely half the battle, there are pretty distinct areas that you would want to be in depending on what your camping scene is like.

We used to go a lot back in the early 2000s, I could probably drop a map of the camping area with some details if that would help.

Right on. There's no way I will go out there without a group that has already been. I'll just have to tag along on a trip with friends.

The flats used to be easy camping but after years of Southerly winds the blow sand is really soft and deep and big rigs do get stuck now.
If you tow a big pig like we do,, stay on the hard pack.
If we're there and you get stuck we'll help you get rolling.

Ease of camping compared to Glamis especially with the Glamis Ghost camping situations. Pull in, drop anchor at Dumont. Little Dunes offer good hard pac camping if you stay close to the highway. A good place to start for first time visitors and get to know the dunes. If it's just us, and many times we've had Dumont all to ourselves we'll camp at the Little Dunes to avoid getting frame deep stuck. The high speed run across the playa to the big dunes is fun.

So is everyone calling the big weekend for Halloween weekend before or after? We are going weekend after. If it’s weekend before I’m game for that it’ll be less busy when we go 😂😂

Hope to meet/see some of you out there..our group of 4-5 families are planning on being there this Thursday afternoon (10-24 to 10-27)and heading home Sunday. Mix of mostly SxS’s,sand cars and dirt bikes.
Helped our neighbor load his flat bed.

X-2 on the warm weather..no shortage of the overly loud Ompapa music…
Had a blow out on the trailer while on the 127 to Baker and noticed a second tire looking bad as well. Guess 4 year old tires are the new “old tires”.
Overall good dusty trip and everything drove back onto the trailer.

I like Dumont. Its so mellow on every other weekend besides Halloween.
The dunes are huge but overall the place is small. Cant get lost LOL

How is the drive into the dunes with MH and trailer? I vaguely remember hearing it was slow, kinda whooped-out drive-in? I could be mistaken?

It got paved a few years ago. Its a nice drive all the way to the flats.
The road was a nasty wash board before that.
After you go through the fee area its dirt up the small hill onto the flats. Then you just find a nice spot. Some soft spots but you can get pretty close to the dunes in some areas if you want. Definitely go in the day time for you first time if not going with someone who hasn't been there.
