Assuming comperable skill sets at the controls and both boats running at full strength the Jon Roth 388 will be at least 15 MPH faster than Gary Smith 40. Its not Gary's fault, the 388 is simply a faster hull.

At LOTO, Bob Bull was knocking on the door of Greg's 33' Eliminator...but in a 48' MTI (15' longer).

Met Randy Scism at DS one year, great guy! We were eating breakfast at Nautical and he stopped at our table, I am sure he would have talked to us all day if time would have permitted. Another down to Earth guy is Peter Hedlin. Maybe they couldn't tell I had no money for a Baller boat.

Both of those guys are great to talk to. Randy has been building boats alot longer than most people think- I believe he cut his teeth building race boats for SBI unlimited overseas back in the 90's. Those guys have probably forgotten more than most builders even know.

And that's a rudder boat, I believe. It was originally listed as 1350 Mercs, but lets assume Merc had secretly hopped them up to 1650 and was testing them- lets add it up:

1. Probably 1,000lbs heavier than the Eliminator
2. 15' longer than the Eliminator
3. 300hp LESS than the Eliminator

4. Only 6MPH slower in the standing mile

I agree...very impressive.

Yes he is running. Coming from Miami. I honestly think pound for pound this Eliminator should take it. 134 mph in a 25' Eliminator with a single I6 Toyota motor? That's impressive.

S40, do you know the 32 Skater w/Sterlings? That setup looks like the biggest threat to you of those entered in the Shootout entry list. Do you expect any more big players to enter?

Yes i know him.Kenny Mongle is the owner and he is not doing DS.His drives are at Verns shop and he has decided to go to Biloxi as it is closer to home.At LOTO ,he ran 119mph as the boat has some serious handeling issues,or it did then.

This years shootout should be Awesome! I know our group is going to cruise the pokerun on friday and run hard on Saturday in a safe enviroment on a controlled course with no risk of spectators trying to get to close or pull out in front of you etc. I have been doing Desert Storm since it started and before that i think it was wild card poker run, but every year it draws a bigger crowd, the event has gotten so big i cant believe Jim pulls it off every year! Hats off to him and his family! I and a lot of us just want to keep it safe so we can continue to have a great time every year! Desert Storm is by far my favorite event of the year, my blood is already pumping! The list of shoot out participants has grown i dont know when Lakeracer will have the updated list ready to view but there is some serious hardware coming out!
