Someone from PB posted article from News Hearld that it starts Tuesday. I don't know anything about dredging but 60,000 seems cheap to do what is proposed. I applaud the effort, but worry about that becoming a bottleneck for fast and slow boats.

It's gonna be a no wake zone through that section on the Ca side. The Az side will still be the open to run through as usual.

Am I wrong is saying if we open up the CA side it will lower the AZ side?

Just thinking about this is basic terms, water will take the path of least resistance.

I believe its a great idea, and long overdue.. Anyone that has a propeller boat should appreicate it.. Many times going through Catfish Bay, you just watch the line others' are taking, and follow through, holding your breath, and not looking down. Normally, 2ft or less of water.. It makes me super nervous everytime doing it...

I personally can't wait too see how the project looks, when completed.!!

I also watch what others are doing on the AZ side, but never on the CA side. I have never use the CA side.

This idea is good but adding a no wake zone could cause more problems then I think they are thinking.

Ya, I agree w/you there. I was thinking about that no wake zone too.. Especially on a fri/sat afternoon during the summer.. Don't u think boat traffic is going to back up and bottleneck?.. if its just a single lane going each way..? Seems like going up river is super popular these days.. its a nice drive, sandy beaches, pirates cove etc. What do u think?

I've been on this lake for 20 years and never had an issue. As long as you just use some common sense, read the water so to speak, it's simple. The people who usually have issues are the ones who panic and then stop, after that they are f'd. I have not owned a v bottom boat in a long time, that does ad another degree of difficulty to it though.

The one part I can never sort out is that I always zig and zag a whole lot more going north than going south. It just always seems simpler going down river versus up. There is no logic to that statement at all, probably the same reason my wife always lifts her feet up.

I think it was fine the way it was. I like the fact that it scares some of the bigger boats into staying on the lake. The no wake zone above the dredged area is a great idea, if your gonna use that path you gotta go slow. :thumbsup

I think I know what your sayin here and couldn't agree more. I see this leading to a big closure on the AZ side.:grumble::grumble:

Same thing going on in my boat, but the wife also grabs a grab handle next to her seat :)

I remember a few years back when the water level got low on Lake Powell they put in a lane that you had to go through, and it was a no wake zone and a bottle neck. It didn't matter if you wanted to use it or not, it was mandated that you use it.
I also remember that they stationed a patrol boat there, and "safety" checks were very common.

Living here and seeing how the Marine Assoc. has handled things politically, I am very skeptical about this. I also wonder why the Chemehuevi tribe is so involved with this, and wonder if there is an agenda that we aren't seeing yet.

Hope I'm proven wrong.

Since I'm wondering out load.........

I wonder why the city got behind this. Seems to me it just makes it easier for money that would be spent here, to leave the lake and be spent at Pirates Cove. Not nearly the amount of boats that would be coming down, compared to the amount of boats leaving for the day.

It would be fun to see where the majority of the funding came for this project, and then try to determine the motivation behind it.

Each boat will have to stop and sign a liability release before allowed through......

Perhaps the tribe is concerned about Kilrtoy boating in the Reeds! :deadhorse:

Loss of revenue for the prop shops and drive fixers too! :D:rolleyes:

That 'safety' is going to add another 30 minutes to an hour on my way south after a day on the sandy beach hanging out with friends. Hope the AZ side stays open.

There's no way to predict whether there will be traffic back-ups waiting to use the channel or not. I'm assuming that those who are familiar with the area and know the way will continue to go up the Arizona side or snake through the California side as always. Simple math tells me that a half-mile of "no-wake" at 5 mph will take 6 minutes. At 40 mph, a half-mile takes 45 seconds. I guess people who aren't in a hurry will be willing to give up an extra 5 minutes to avoid getting stuck or dinging a prop.

read between the lines. What some of us are saying is there will eventually be only one way thru that area.....The no wake zone:thumbsdown.

On your way back to windsor I guarantee everyone we will all be forced into the new channel. In the name of safety of course.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe the project is being done for safety, when I've never heard of one accident in the area due to the water level. I also don't believe that they are undertaking a 60k project to save people from some prop damage.

I would be willing to bet that there is an underlying reason for the project, and my bet it is that it is financially driven. Not trying to be a pessimist, just trying to keep it real.

Yep and forced through some state driven 'safety' stop. Some how someone is going to make money on this stupid not needed channel.

I liked this statement:

Once dredged, project leaders said that will open up 60 miles of clear waterways between Davis and Parker Dams.

Looks like the project leaders have never boated north of I-40 :D

whats keeping anyone from dropping an achor in shallow water at the river mouth /sandbars and just standing around like we do at the sandbar... maybe we have a new hangout spot and then they can reopen speed alley for all the boat traffic. lol:D

use caution near the reeds tho...

60K seems low to do this work, I think they might have a bigger plan for this? Or maybe it is just to make it easier for some to go up river?
Either way this goes, it's a total waste of money!

It will be interesting to see what effect the dredging has upon the TOTAL river flow coming into the lake.

Water follows the path of least resistance; you expect the river to start flowing more through this new opening...I'll bet the areas east of this chanel will become more shallow, maybe even sanbars in some areas...

"Dreamwater Channel" maybe deep enough the get the tribes ferry boats thru so they can offer gambling to the peeps staying at Park Moabi and Topock Resort if it ever gets built. I think their ferrys are even named Dream Catcher.

I've been making the run through the silt beds as I call em for 20 years. I took a few years off and this summer upon my return it seems like there's even more show and shine 40 footers between the lake and Moabi. It cost me 2 props of experience this summer but I'm back! I know where all the obstacles are between Laughlin and Havasu. The silt beds aren't an issue.
Some of my favorite boat pics are from sitting in the bowrider section of my Carlson looking at the rooster tail coming off my prop as we're trimmed out skimming over the silt beds, kids smiling and people off to the sides walking their boats through the shallows.
Seriously, a lil off topic, but I don't get the weekend boater with 35' of boat but still only seats for 5 in the cockpit. I think I need a ride to see the light.:champagne:
