Just ordered one. If anyone has a picture of how they wired it send a photo. I think i am just going to put a switch under the hatch and just turn it on when we need it. I went green.

Maybe a dumb question, but why not just put underwater transom lights?

it can't be too difficult. One positive and one negative connection from barrier strip at dash or engine compartment. Install switch in series in the power line. Done.

Maybe another dumb question, how do you drain your bilge if you have one of these in that hole?

It's just a wire lead, you'd leave enough slack to pull the plug out.

It looks super easy and like someone said, you don't have to cut any holes.

Worst case just crimp on some waterproof quick disconnects.

They just replace the bilge plug. Still screw in and out.

I haven't seen 1 but I would guess that it fits into the drain hole and maybe has an outer ring on the outside of the transom that holds the leds , and the plug screws in n out of the sleeve that goes through the transom ?

I haven't seen 1 does anyone have a link ?

I bought a blue one too and have yet to install it. Im still deciding whether to run the power to my transom light so when i hit the nav lights it comes on OR just run it to my battery and put an inline toggle switch.

The problem for me with running it to my transom light is mine is behind the side panel and would have to remove all 3 batteries, then the rear bench seat to just to remove the side panel.

The issue with running it straight to my batteries with an inline toggle switch is the toggle switch's i have seen on the internet are kindy bulky and are for lamps. The toggle switches i have seen at auto parts stores are for ones that you would mount in the dash and im not gonna go through that headache.

The inline toggle switch is nice though cause from what i have heard on another thread about this exact topic is that its illegal to run those lights. So if you do get stopped you can just raise the hatch and switch it off real quick.

Here is the other thread talking about all the same stuff we are talking about here:

Run a serperate switch for the light. You really don't want to get popped every time you drive the boat at night....

Thanks for the link. I didn't realize you guys did plug led. I thought only underwater transome lights.

We'r usually off the water by dusk, but I'm going to get one anyway. Ya never know when it may come in handy.

Plus it will help remind me that my plug is in :D

no problems so far in Illinois with the different colours but a seperate switch is a great and simple solution ... guys have also bought different colors and wired them with bullet connectors (quick disconect) and switch colors weekend to weekend .
carry on .....

I would either install a dedicated switch, or run it off the anchor light position on the running light switch. Most running light switches have a position that turns on the stern light without the bow lights.

Blue lights are definitely considered emergency lights. Back in high school, I had a baja bug with a polished aluminum firewall and a bunch of polished/chromed parts. I had a couple of green lights tucked up by the engine and luckily had them on a toggle switch. I got pulled over in Dana Point by the Sheriff because of my "illegal emergency lights" and said my green lights looked blue from a distance. And believe it or not, I was a smart ass back then too. :p I asked the cop if someone was really going to mistake a hugger orange 1964 baja bug for an actual emergency vehicle. The cop pulls out a knife and says "I can cut them for you right now if you like." :p I said no need, they are on a switch.

The spirit of this law is meant to be around people running lights to look like they are official emergency or LE vehicles/vessels....not to stop people from running LAM lighting that is obvious to a blind guy from 30 miles that the lowered civic with blue LED lights in his fender wells is not an actual emergency vehicle.

While i agree with you and that would be the best way to do it, for ME it would require removing alot of shit just to do that, i.e batteries, bench seat, all the side paneling on driver side as well my driver seat. To much of a pain in the ass for me to do that.

Im gonna do the inline toggle switch idea if i can just find a nice inline toggle switch.

No way to run a fish tape down the gunnel from front to rear?
If not, it would be easy to make a little mounting plate for a google and just mount it in the bilge.
