Do you want a dog that needs training?

No i got a dog that I'm considering having trained professionally, there was a thread a month or so ago and it had a few places to use. Couldn't seem to find it with the new search dealio.

Oh hell mine will shit and eat too. But won't come when I call her, won't stop jumping up on me and anyone else, won't stop barking just because a bird flew by. I have a scar on my leg from her greeting me when I come home.

She only sits when I have a treat in my hand and she will stop barking if I tell her she is going outside.

Hula starts puppy school next month. Then after she graduates, her and Tiki are going to take agility classes.

All I have been able to teach Hula is doggie hula and sit (when she feels like it)lol She is a stubborn little shit!

Nick does great work. He has trained my dog, dads dog, cousins, friends, and neighbors dog. Everyone has really been happy with his work. Every time I take my dog out people ask about his training. It's not cheap, but its well worth it.

Highly recommend Dog Training by Chris Gentner 909-374-7160

The best in the biz as far as I'm concerned and I've seen many dogs trained by him including several of my own.

Tell him I sent you!

Which school are you going to use? I plan on putting him in something when i head to hawaii in novemeber. Its expensive but a trainer will line her out...I meet a guy at dog beach the other day who had just got his pit back from a 3 week stint at a trainer and the dog was bad ass and spot on btu its 1800 for 3 weeks, little more then i want to spend.

"Training" dogs is merely teaching them tricks. It's easier to train the human. You can have a dog trained all you want but if you don't excersize being a pack leader. The dog will eventually be training the human.

LOL. Yep. Humans are harder to train than the dogs.

Funny stuff, and any ex LEO K9 handlers can relate to this.............

I'd buy dogs for Police from Germany. Some had minimal training, some had quite a bit. I'd have the dog for a week or two before the officer started his K9 Handler course. During this time, I'd play with the dog and see where his skill level was. When the handler starts the course, the dog is doing fairly well as far as obedience, bite work, agility etc.

At the very beginning, when we "show" the dog we're trying to "sell" to the handler and usually his supervising Srgt or Lt and maybe a few other sseasoned handlers, I'll do obedience with the dog and then follow it up with some bite work with a good decoy/agitator. Of course, after many years, my timing is perfect and I make the dog look like it's push button. And frankly many times the dog IS push button. But, remember MY timing is perfect and I can make the dog look way easier to handle than it is for a newby.

So now enters this officer. Some have a little experience from being a decoy (bad guys) during K9 training. Either way, they're usually seasoned patrol officers with at least a few years on the street.

When you introduce a cop, that is used to telling people what to do and when to do it, with a dog that has a mind of it's own and could care less about a badge and gun and the law, the antics at the beginning of a K9 handlers course are pure comedy. Here's this cop, who admittedly might be a little intimidated by this "animal" that can fuck you up (what newby wouldn't be) , trying to get this dog to do things that's the handler isn't used to doing.

Timing, timing timing. Correct timing when giving dogs verbal or physical correctionns is one of the single most important things in any kind of dog training.

Here's this big bad cop, with lots of authority in his every day life, and some highly trained animal with lots of energy and drive. The handlers timing is way off and the dog knows it.

HAHAHA. One time, during basic obedience training, the cop just could NOT get the dog to perform any obedience. His timing was off, he was a little nervous and then started to get pissed at himself for not being able to do something the "Roland made look so easy last week".

He got frustrated because the dog is just jumping around goofing off. Then with a look of pure desparation, the cop looks at me and says....................."Is this the same dog you showed us last week?"

"LOLOLOL. Yessir, same dog. Put the dog in your car and take a break"

Basically, when ever you're doing any training with your dog, your human mistakes go right down the leash and you'll mess the dog up. In the beginning of our K9 handlers course, the dog is way advanced in comparrison to the handler and it's not an easy task for the handler to succeed in catching up. Many times in the early stages of the course, the handler WILL make mistakes, and it's almost as if the dog looks at the handler and is thinking "dude, WTF" and then the dog looks at me holding my clip board ten feet away and is telling me "Really?" :rotflmao:

Wherever you go for training....................have fun with it, be patient, and accept the fact that the dog probably knows more than you.

Good luck and have fun.
