Had to put my best friend down. Enlarged heart causing breathing difficulty, into congestive heart failure. He was constantly grinding his teeth on his last day. I didn't understand until the vet told me that they do that when in serious pain. If I had known, would have taken him out sooner. SO - pay attention to yours. He could be trying to tell you something.

So sorry for your loss, it's one of the hardest parts of being human. Our best friends have a much shorter life span than us. Trust in the fact that when the dust settles you wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

Hang in there! No words can describe. It just fuckin sucks. Remember the good times. I've only had Boxers. They are the best! 6yrs is not enough. We focus so much on giving them a good life. Yet, there comes a time when we have to give them a good death. They deserve that.

Thanks for all the best wishes. Sorry to be beating an old horse, or in this case, dog, but I hope ya'll read the last line. Ya see, he started to grind his teeth , but I was stupid enough to think he just had a bad tooth (which I had made a dentist appointment for, but it was still a month away). It wasn't. It is a symptom of his being in pain. If I'd known that, I would not have dragged out the inevitable. We were treating him for an enlarged heart which led into congestive heart failure. Very painfull.
