Out on the lake today, dog jumped off the boat and must have caught his nail on the ladder. Ripped the whole thing out and then some. Best I can tell, the nail and distal phalange were separated from the paw. Getting mixed opinions on what to do.

If it was me, I’d super glue it and call it good. For my dog, not quite sure.

No emergency vets in Havasu so I’m debating the drive to Vegas, trying to get him into the vet in the morning or breaking out the super glue. Really just not sure what route to take.

This is not professional advice and I do not recommend this approach or method but.

Our dog ripped out a nail and we just taped it up and it grew back.

He is still a little jackass.

Wife says dog needs to be at a vet as quickly as possible, she just kept saying that one is bad.

Also said with super glue you're going to trap bacteria and have a big chance of infection.

I'd run to Vegas or see if Kingman has a vet. Dogs are animals, and animals are pretty badass, but I'd worry about infection.

Not a vet, but have seen my own finger in a ziploc that had carrots in it a few minutes before. Stopping the bleeding on a human hand is easy though. The poor pup it may be a lot more difficult.

He will want to lick his Paw

Get a sock and tape it on in a few spots - not too tight to cut circulation.

We ended up buying a bunch of socks from Walmart and some gauze and had to wash / soak his foot every night, he loved the attention!

Junior did this back in 2016…

Ours ripped a nail out during the night last year lot of blood but ended up being fine. Vet said put the paw in flour to help stop the bleeding. Good luck

FYI
Need to be very careful if he chews on his paw….

Junior chewed on his rear kick and it got infected they had to make a custom antibiotic to kill it off…

Things were ok before he chewed his paw…. It went to BIG CRAP 💩 afterwords!
So pay attention…

Corn starch to stop bleeding if it starts back up. Dogs are crazy resilient!

Skin infections are no joke for the dogs. Ours had a bad skin infection on his stomach last summer had to get some crazy antibiotics from a compounding pharmacy. 6 weeks of antibiotics and shaving his stomach finally got rid of it.

I don’t think it bothered Jr at all ….

He actually loved all the attention and snacks…

He won’t even notice it gone…I don’t.

Get it the rest of the way off and wrap it for a few days.

We were able to get an appointment at the humane society on Tuesday. Very reasonable pricing. He had a check up on Thursday and all is good.

Glad we took him in. Despite the saline washes and precautions, they say it was infected. The staff was awesome and took great care of him. They stitched it up and he is in the mend.

He’s ready to get back to a normal life but he’s taking it well.
