Last month, I went to Walmart. I bought about a dozen things. One of the items got overlooked (because it was small- a pack of Sharpie pens). The guy at the door just ran his marker across the receipt. I walked out not knowing I had done anything wrong. When I got to my vehicle and was putting my purchase(s) in the car. I found the Sharpies under a larger item. I checked my receipt and no I had not paid for them. I locked my vehicle, returned to the store, and paid for them. As I was leaving, I told the guy at the door what I had done. He didn’t say anything, he just marked my receipt and went to the next person. Minimum-wage employees probably don’t care/don’t understand what happens when theft occurs. I was a retail manager for an electronics chain store, so I knew the cost of theft. I did the right thing regardless.😎

I’ve kinda done the same at Home Depot. Ran outta space holding stuff, so I start putting stuff in my pocket.

Forgot about a pair a kinda expensive wire crimper/strippers and went back the next morning and explained and paid for them. Their response was just meh.

If you hadn't had gone back and paid for them they probably would've exploded and made a mess. That would be my luck...

20 years ago we used to remove those electronic devices off the more expensive things and throw them into people's pockets just for fun. Did that to my friends grandpa once and it was great. I'm telling the lady at the door how he likes to steal women's lingerie and so on and he just gets more and more red in the face.

Now the SOP is just let the thief go. Cheaper to pass the costs on I guess?

Left a gas station one night after paying cash and halfway home had a weird feeling about how much she had given back, pulled over and checked my wallet sure enough it wasn't right. Memory is vague but I think I was in my dually and had filled jugs also, would have been 2 different octanes and pumps.
Went back, it was one of those little island kiosks in the middle of the pump's.
Told the young girl you gave me too much change, she figured out how much and proceeded to cry, said the owner would have taken it out of her check.
I felt good about that.

I finally asked what they looked for at Walmart He told me 3 things the date on the receipt, the store number and the amount of items. They do this because people bring in old receipts and restock. I was working on some equipment at a Walmart and some guy was going out with 2 Coleman minibikes, The problem was the receipt was from a week earlier and a different store, the did actually call the cops on him.

Walmart was working on technology to see what’s in a cart vs what’s scanned. More of a piece count audit that by item. Not sure what they’re doing with it.

Went to the new Amazon fresh by our house. You scan items and put it in your cart. You just walk out when you are done through a separate lane, no checker or anything and it automatically bills your cc like an order on Amazon. It was strange and cool at the same time. I will say I like this better than having to scan all my own stuff at the check out like most stores now.

Integrity is what you do when no one is watching;

It's doing the right thing all the time, even when it may work to your disadvantage. Integrity is keeping your word. It's an internal compass, a rudder that directs you where you know you should go when everything around you is pulling you in a different direction.

Good on you. 👏👏👏

I’ve done that been over change like 20 or $30. I went back. $20 isn’t gonna make a difference in my life, but that could’ve caused somebody their job. Good on you.

Went to a baseball game in Houston (fuck you, Astros) and they had a store like this. Needed a credit card to go inside. Cameras track you and you just walk out with your shit. Only thing the human does is crack open your beer cans. It was wild.

I've missed scanning things and it shows on the video monitor which item I missed.
It caught our post master too.

“No thank you… the cross dressing guy in the self checkout area watched me like a hawk already”
Listen, there's two ways we can do this. The easy way where I help you, or the hard way. Where it's fun for me, but not for you. 😆

A buddy and I were leaving home depot a while back and he was carrying the stuff he bought. As we went out the door the product alarm siren went off. I yelled “RUN” and I took off across the parking lot.
Those sensormatic tags were fun. We used to peel them off and put them on coworkers for shits and giggles.

Do not allow them to review your receipt. Walk past them politely and smile and say no thank you. People are getting conditioned for invasion of privacy. You own the items they do not have the right to search your basket and receipt without consent. Only places they can do that is membership stores like Costco because you granted them the right when signing up. It is a slippery slope conditioning people for personal search without consent. Ok rant over…

When I go to Wally World and use the self checkout it asks you after you pay do you want your receipt printed/emailed and printed/just emailed. I always print it but when walking past the girl or guy receipt checker and they ask to see it I tell them I emailed it and keep walking!

Went with the wife one time, she was in a hurry and I wasn't. She headed toward the door and had the receipt. I was 30 feet or so behind walking out with a couple cases of soda. Guy says, "Can I see your receipt?". I said, "Don't have one" and kept on walking. I never even look at them, just walk by and if they say have a nice day, I say you too.
