Do you loosen your trailer tie downs when not using boat?

I have always loosened the transom and winch when not towing but always wondered if I'm helping anything?? I tell myself less stress on the tie down spots and maybe possibly helping not adding some hook to the hull from the bunks. Am I wasting effort or helping?

My old trailer and boat would really bend the trailer when it was winched down, so I did loosen the winch on that boat. Not much seems to deflect under tension with my current boat, so I haven’t worried about it.

All in all, certainty nothing wrong with loosening everything while in storage.

Always loosen both. Should even be good for the winch strap, hook, bow & stern eyes etc.

Yup, I loosen the winch straps up and check the trailer with a level.

Fancy fucker over here :)

What is the point of keeping the trailer level? Wouldn’t you want the boat level? Or is that want you meant?

Even if the boat was level does that even help anything since most of the weight is in the stern?

If it is a cat or tunnel hull wouldn’t you want the upper surfaces of the tunnels level, not necessarily the hull or trailer?

I’m trying to decide if I travel with the transom strap to tight as I seem to find new stress cracks everything I haul it to the river. Our ca roads aren’t fiberglass friendly.

You are over thinking this. I level it for the same reason I use a level on all the pictures on the walls in my house, so I can sleep at night.

That is some next level stuff.

I only level shit out so I don’t have to tilt my head when looking at it. When I go to sleep it is irrelevant, I can’t see the leveled out things anyway.

I thought I was the only one that did this. Sometimes I wake up at night and have to go out and check it to make sure it hasn't moved.

I have loosened them before. Always afraid I’ll forget to tighten them before I leave next time though.
Just like lowering the drive. Always afraid I’ll forget to put it up before pulling the boat out

Is that based on the weight of the pontoon ( straps) and why lowering this merc and not the out drive ( cobra ) ...????

Loosening the straps never occurred to me, so no. I would give em a new yank before I left on a trip to make sure they were tight. I would lower the outdrive though.

I loosen the straps and lower my drive, and level the boat at storage. Also, inflate my tires last time one of my tires was completely flat I had AAA come out and replace with spare I had no jack at the time.

I don’t make the transom straps tight at all .
Only on there for a -just in case .
26 ft boat will not be bouncing around Going down the the road .
Don’t want to put a hook in the bottom after time . Probably never happen

I had a customer that put the entire trailer on jackstands in storage. Seemed crazy to me.

I don’t loosen anything or I’d for sure forget to tighten them.

I do level the jack though, just because it looks better to me.

If you aren’t there to see them, Is any trim tab really there?
Is that like , if a tree falls in a forest , does it make a sound , if your not there, how do you know.

Funny, This same type question is often posed on hunting sites. But the question is, "Should I remove my bolt before shipping my rifle." I always have/do. I believe that leaving the bolt in the rifle, puts un-even pressure on both sides of the rifle, putting more pressure on one end/side of your rifle-scope than the other.

If there is even a small risk, why not just be safe, same with boats. My walk around would surely catch a loose tie-down.

Yep. It’s like the bote you claim to own yet I’ve never seen, so it does not exist.

I'd be afraid of forgetting to re-tighten the straps before heading down the road. That could end BAD.

I only sleep 2-3 hours a night so I see the crooked
