Like the title says do y’all let people drive your shit? It could be a rzr, boat, truck, golf cart???

Is it a person by person decision. Like if you know they can afford it or fix it do y’all let them drive it?

Do you give them a heads up like you owe me the deductible if you crash it.

Are there people that will let you drive their shit but you don’t want them driving your stuff.

Do you have to be in the car/ boat to let them drive? Or do you just say the keys are in there have at it.

Did you used to be relaxed about letting people drive your shit and have changed your outlook from being burned.

Just an open discussion with multiple scenarios.

you all need to be more worried about your kids driving.
See other thread.

Kid hits someone and your under insured you are on the hook for everything.

Basically your are one bad decision by your kid away from financial disaster.

Boat = no, too many variables to go wrong and not everyone has experience on the water, plus I stay sober on the water for that reason.

Cars are more generic and most people have experience driving those, so I'm ok with pretty much anyone driving my cars. I don't drink and drive but I do drink and drink, so I'll literally let anyone other then me drive me and my car after I've had a couple...

person by person. I have people drive some cars to shows for me. I don't normally let people borrow a car though. I tell my worker to drive something if he wants.

Cars and Truck, pretty much any of my close friends and family, although I don't "lend" them to anyone....I am talking more like we are all together and someone doesn't have a vehicle with them and they need to run the store or something, I will let them take mine...

Boat, SXS, Dirtbikes, E-bikes, etc...nobody rides or drives those but us...there are too many things that can go wrong and I wouldnt want to ruin any kind of relationships over it....

There's maybe 3-4 people I would let drive my boat and they all have boats like mine and I've known them all my life.

Truck feel free to get after it.

There are 2 people in my life that are not family by blood that can drive or even borrow anything I own. I know for a fact that should something happen it will be taken care of. Also I will receive whatever they use back better than if I had used it. They just happen to be the same two that I call when shit breaks and I can't figure it out or is way above my skill set.

I don't have any special or "nice" cars, so I'm not worried if someone scratches them by accident. With those, it's more do I trust them not to be stupid, and harm someone else. With a hotrod, or offroad toy, it's usually something I built, so not going to toss the keys to anyone unless I know they can drive something like that.
Definitely a case by case basis.

Basically no. Actually, more like Fk no. Very, very, very few exceptions.
Lessons learned. Experiences with friends & family.😁
Trailer loaned, came back with broken tail light and missing storage door.
Truck loaned, returned with cracked windshield. Another time a dent. Oh......and an empty tank!😤

… Nobody has ever driven any of my boats??… Two people are allowed to drive my Ram diesel and my Expedition… That is my Neighbor Girl and her boyfriend… They are both very skilled drivers… I have told the boyfriend when driving the Ram… Don’t crash it and don’t blow it up… So far so good… Neighbor Girl was driving the Expedition…and the transmission gave up the ghost on the freeway… I yelled at her… Entirely not her fault… I still feel guilty to this day… and have apologized several times…Has she ever said do you want to drive my Mercedes… Well, actually, no she hasn’t???🤷🏽‍♀️

LOL, he made mention of needing drivers in the In-N-Out thread. Thought popped into my head quickly followed by no fucking way. I'd forever be sick if something happened.
I have two girls working for me. One is 19 and drives a lifted obs truck. I let her drive the big black blazer to shows for me. The other is shop girl. She just turned 21 and she can drive what ever I have. She drives the Vega usually but has driven others. She is a good driver. I don't have to use the imaginary brake pedal when she is giving me a ride somewhere.

Person by person and vehicle by vehicle. I barely let my wife drive my truck although she drives our almost identical F350 work truck all the time.

Too many variables and situations go with really. My pos Tacoma work truck has taught a lot of people to drive stick. I find out someone over 15 visiting can't drive a clutch and I'll throw them in that thing. You''l be able to by the time you leave, lets go,,,,

I have been delivering boats for years. This thread is hilarious.

All you guys who say you won’t let somebody drive your stuff…….. go buy a 150ft yacht, and I guarantee you will be letting some else drive it! Lol

Luckily most of my close friends are very familiar with cars, trucks, off road vehicles, and boats....anything with a engine or motor and I would have no issue with them driving my stuff as they would let me drive anything they own.

Person by person decision. My kids use my shit regularly but they also fix it if they break it. I will let my dad use anything I own, as far as the rest of the family, they can go f themselves. My brother in law constantly asks to borrow my flatbed to move cars he is trying to flip. He never fixed anything he broke so I had to cut him off. My sister tried to use dad to borrow my trailer for him and had to bring dad up to speed on why they can't use it.
My best friend has literally wrecked everything I have let him borrow but he always made it right. I would let him do it all again if he was still with us.

My wife has only driven the dually once. No one else drives it. The likelihood of curbing a wheel or possibly breaking a fender is just too high. People don’t know how to drive as-is let alone a large vehicle.

The bus, nope. I’m only one with class b non commercial air brake endorsement. Nope nope.

Everything else can be replaced via insurance.

I'll let my family drive my truck. We've all each had a 3/4 or 1 ton 7.3 or 6.0 at one time so we know how to drive them. Everything else is off limits to everyone. Tools, equipment, dirt bikes, handling parts. Majority of the time people just want to use something because its "easily available" then they fuck it up and it was just a want the whole time, not a need... So I say no, if my body language didn't say it enough already.
If I had a boat I'd let my dad and brother drive it. We grew up boating and dad was letting me drive his 35' Viking when I was 7 years old. Like out of the slip in Dana Point to Catalina.

Hell no on the boat (unless I'm in it), toys or motorhome. I've had people want to borrow the motorhome & were butt hurt because I said no.

I will let company borrow cars when they visit but other than that I don't need other people fucking up shit that I've taken such good care of.

Well I would never toss the keys to some random person to drive my shit.

However, those that I hang out with are all responsible people with family and jobs. Have no problem tossing them the keys to run to store or test ride a new toy.

For myself, I try hard to refrain for using other people stuff. Two reasons, probably can’t afford to fix it and I don’t want to like it so much I have to have one.

Any of my friends can borrow any of mine. If I had to worry about what they would do or how they would handle it if something went wrong, then they would not be my friend.

Just an open discussion with multiple scenarios.

I can count on one hand, the people I would let borrow my cars, The Mustang, (when it's finished) the Cobra, and the motorcycle are off limits. They are all people who will make anything right without me even having to ask and I have never had one come back with less than 3/4 tank of gas.

Boats, I don't let people borrow them ever. I do however let or have people drive them while I'm on board often. I am the only one to ever dock or trailer my boats. There is only one person I would make an exception for but he has never asked.

I drive a lot of peoples boats. Goes with the territory of my work but as far as friends toys, I don't ever like to drive them myself. I just don't feel comfortable. Now if they ask me to drive it to "feel" something and get my opinion on it, I will do that no problem otherwise I rather just go for a ride in the passengers seat.

This is the most laxed I have ever been with my stuff although I do still feel I am more stringent than many.

Yes, I’ll let people drive my vehicles. Friends and coworkers in the past.

No, I refuse to drive their stuff. I’ll even have friends say I could take their spare cars for the week when we fly out to CA, but I still rent. Even around the block when it’s a new toy. Nope from me.

When I was 22 and flight instructing out of Camarillo airport, I used to have a lot of wealthy students. Like the kind of guys that would just buy a brand new cirrus or c206 and have me teach them to fly in it. It was common for them to let me borrow their planes to take my friends to Vegas, and one guy who didn’t have his instrument ticket yet used to have me drop his plane off in the high desert when the marine layer was there, then he would swap me his Bentley and leave a few hundred in the ash tray for gas so I could drive it wherever I wanted. I used to have students let me drive all kinds of exotic cars. Though I didn’t make much money at the time, the job had massive perks.
Fast forward to today, I don’t have a problem letting friends of family drive any of my stuff. I value relationships far more than I value my stuff. That being said, I still use good judgment in my decisions.

boat- son and wife and 3 of the 5 humans i trust one being the mechanic
classic cars- wife(one is hers)
truck- wife and 3 of the 5 i trust
oddly all those guys trust me with anything thing they own without question.

id rather just say no and keep a friend than say yes and something stupid happens that could drive a wedge between us.

point to that: 4 months ago a good friend just finished his 68 chevelle fresh paint, built LS3, full suspension front to back and a set of custom wheels. he threw his best friend the keys to go around the block laid down the rules about how the car handles and the power. 3 blocks away dude hammers it sideways across the lane through a drainage ditch and drug the car down a cinderblock wall 100+ ft. it literally ripped the lower a arms off the frame. my friends daughter was at the stop light an witnessed it all... insurance has taken care of most of the bill( per replacing it back to stock and agreed price) but the guy is supposed to pay the rest with a lot of resistance and hemming and hawing... probably won't be friends when it's all said and done

This is why my stuff is off limits. People borrow whatever it is and go straight to full throttle and wreck it. Cars, off road toys, drill bits, ect...

"I'll pay for any damage I do" means they are going to thrash it, damage it and not pay for any damage they do.
And will you ever get sick of hearing "I'm sorrys."

Like when someone in camps dog attacks someone, the dog owner can't get their truck started and leave camp fast enough, same with the guy who wrecks your stuff. Gone in 60 seconds.

People don't care about others property.
A rental guy told me once "As fast as I buy Rzrs, people wreck them."

Depends upon two things:

1) I have to trust them with that vehicle/boat/aircraft.

2) They must have enough personal insurance to cover the damage/replacement, liability claims and cost of defense in the event something happens whether it was their fault or not.

My Cobra is really the only thing that I would not let anyone else drive. It will kill you quickly and without warning.
