So, i'm finally unwrapping my Truck from its protective cuccoon, for the first time in about 7 months and i'm all out of Additive.

I have used these two and like them both.

But
Has anyone tried this Hot Shot stuff?
Good or stick with what I've been using?

I’ve heard the Power Service is the gold standard.

Do you have need of a winter formula for antigelling?

I use hot shot, but will use power service if I run out. Growing up power service was used by everyone I knew...

2 Stroke Oil,
Old School Oil not the modern synthetic stuff..

1/2 ounce per gallon of diesel… Worked amazind on my 2002 Duramax… Sold it with close to 240k on it, had the original injectors, and the original CP Pump.

After you add the 2 stroke oil you will notice a things immeditiatly… The engine runs smoother, less vibrations in the gas pedal and the fuel economy goes up.

I had my 2002 for about 12 years… did the above the entire time… Show me another LB7 that was still running the original injectors at 240K.

Lucas or diesel kleen. Detroit auto body is a dealer for Lucas. Better bang for the buck in my eyes.

Careful with this on any truck with a DPF. This could be a very, very expensive oops. Older ones its all good. You can burn almost anything oily and flammable on the older stuff.

Hi,
I like the Power Service Stuff.
You can definitely hear a difference in the motor.
And
No, I live in SoCal. No need for a winter formula.

I run supetech tc-w3 or FPPF that i got from Kennedy Diesel, i switch back and fourth. LB7 Duramax with no smog shit on the motor though.

Anything with a DPF you need to run a rated additive.like FPPF or lucas etc

@floatn turd 6 Liter Powerstroke? Try the Ford cetane booster. I ran it in my 6 Liter and in my 7.3's and seemed to perform well and was less expensive per gallons it treated compared to other brands. The Diesel Kleen performed well to in my 7.3's.

I second the Ashless outboard tcw3 Walmart 2stroke. Cheap effective and not for def or urinal eaters.

I've been told NOT to run any additives in my 2018 L5P Duramax due to the dpf system. Any other info available on this????

I ran additives in my 2015 and 2017, noticed increased regen's even while on a long freeway trip. No additives for the 2020, as I've heard the same thing as you.

How in the hell are you supposed to deal with fuel gelling in a winter/cold environment without a fuel additive??

That’s crap. You have to run something. I’ve seen diesels with out of state plates in Colorado that won’t start because the tourist didn’t put the additive in the fuel before driving into Colorado in the winter and letting it sit overnight outside the motel.

I ran HOT SHOTS additives for a while and also had real frequent regens to the point I made several trips to the dealership to diagnose the issue. And just recently I had to have both NOX sensors and the particulate filter replaced in my DEF system. Thank God my truck is still under warranty or it would've been very costly. What a frustrating experience for sure. It's been 3 weeks since repairs and no issues and my truck runs great

Also I was recently told too is DO NOT let your DEF fluid tanks get low ALWAYS keep them topped off because the fluid dries in the top of the tank and crystalizes and causes clogging in the spray nozzles etc. Which will also cause frequent regens

Anything to add?

I've only used atf at filter changes.

Interesting thoughts on the two stroke oil.

I was having issues with the DEF level sensor reading incorrectly if I started to let it get low, so now I keep it topped off as much as possible.

So do I.
But I’ve been that So Cal guy that found himself in OK city in December...
😂
The glow light on the dash was bright for about 40 seconds before I was given the OK to fire up the mighty 5.9

And it sputtered, and coughed, and belched black smoke as it stumbled back to life.
It was rather ugly lol.

Some friendly Oklahoma gentleman asked me what fuel additive I was running.
I had no idea what he was talking about😳
He was an ok Oakie 🤣

A master GMC Diesel Mechanic that services my 2015 at the dealership said this is the stuff to use if you want your Fuel pump to survive. Said to get it on Amazon as they have the best price. Been using it for about 6 months so far. No real change in performance that I have recognized. Fuel mileage about the same. But if it saves the pump I’m all in! Cheap insurance anyway.

Another one for Optilube. I switched to the purple one as it has the most lubricity.

OptiLube XPD since my DEF system became inactive, 8 oz at every fill up. Gotta keep that original CP4 pump well lubricated. It must be working - 305,000 and still going. Now it’s time to sell it before something else needs repair.

There is probably an anti gel additive out there with no cetane booster in it.

Using an old lucas bottle, i put 1/3 each of Howes, lucas, and 2 stroke wally world oil. Works like a champ in my 7.3 van.
