Ceramic coating is not for everyone - case in point this thread. No one is putting a gun to your head to have this applied to your truck and boat lol.

2005 DMAX river truck black has been outside for part of its life parked near ocean. Retired in Havasu, lifted, would say kind of a pain to wash and wax with a ladder. Had Detail Specialties CC it - came out awesome. I wash it with DI water, and it has held up for over two years. Very straight forward. No stress - it has been worth every penny. IGL product

G23 Nautique Wake Boat - everyone’s crowd favorite. It was primarily black. Wash and wipe down everytime on water. I had it professional detailed a couple of times usually beginning and mid season / wax. Still very difficult to keep water spots after baking on black all day. Detail Specialties. Post CC boat was way easier to clean. Wipe down micro fiber. Use less product. Boat was quicker to detail. Sure wax can achieve the same thing but the price of one CC when you use the boat regularly would require multiple wax or professional details to keep on par. IGL Product

Doug Wright - all white / black motors - I have to say this one was the hardest and Chris called it right at the onset. The plastic merc cowlings are a magnet. Bake on water spots, heat / cool - will burn off any wax immediately. Right away it was awesome but you could see it wear down over time. Ceramic coat on a painted boat hull. Unreal - I have LED lights in my garage that show every spot. IGL product

Tesla - wife’s car - before covid she would barely stop driving long enough to get it detailed. Had a local shop in Santa Ana Ceramic Coat it 2 years ago. Car cleans super easy. I use DI water. My detailer I use at work charges $10 less each wash since it is coated. IGL product

I guess if you enjoy waxing your vehicle or boat regularly then it does not make sense to have this done. If you pay someone to regularly wash / wax your vehicles - save the $.
Get the Tesla done at Protective Film Solutions? That’s where I got my wife’s Tesla done and they did an awesome job.

Sounds about right. Reasonable price - one of my shop guys lined it up. The car cleans so easy - I would do this to any daily driver.

I’m on the opposite thought on that. I have mobile detail buddies. They wash the cars regularly, like weekly. It’s 30 bucks. The cars always look amazing but they tell me to save my money on the Cc. They use other products. The water just beads off. I haven’t seen the use a towel to dry ever. Like you said though it’s going to be a different deal for everybody. I’ve thought about doing the boat, main reason I don’t have that detailed regularly, i take care of that. Might be worth it to save some effort for me.

I agree with you. If you have a detailer scheduled for all of your vehicles they have their own material process. That is their trade. CC saves me time and aggravation. I would always need to be waxing something and honestly could not keep up on my preferred schedule. This works for me.

I had Chris detail my Hallett when I was in Havasu and it looked awesome! I am not in Havasu anymore so I had a local shop put CC on my Aston Martin a couple of weeks ago and so far it is much easier to keep clean.

I think the myth with cermic coating is you no longer need to take car of you paint. You still gotta wash it!
Is it better than wax? Sure if you hate waxing every 6 months.
Does it mean you never need to wipe the boat again? Nope. Just makes it easier.
Snake oil might be a harsh term, it does work. So does wax. So does silicone wash products. So does soft water.
Does it revolutionize keeping shit clean, no. Thats up to the owner and their level of 'give a shit'.
For me, i was going to do my brand new rv. But i wash and wax every 6 months already, so im not the best ceramic customer. My cars are washed every week by me. So the paint is never not in new condition. I also clay bar them from the dealer to get the crap off .

I would use detail specialties for CC if i was shopping for it They have washed my rig before. Good guys

One thing nobody has brought up is the long term looks of ceramic coatings. On cars they start to tinge from surface contaminates slowly working into the coating. Mike Phillips (the undisputed king of the detail world and force behind several companies like Meguirs etc) did a write up about it. Several cars started to get a brown haze that could not simply be cleaned off because it was interlocked with the ceramic. SiO2 or whatever it's called isn't new so I would need to hear what makes this so special because I can have a "proprietary" coating by next week with my name on it. If they truly created something new and badass I'm all ears and my wallet it open lol

And I agree the name sucks sauce makes me think of something other than a ceramic but it to each their own.

I'm going to name mine boat butter lol

100%
I think it’s a great option for vehicles up to three years old that are daily drivers. I wouldn’t put it on something that’s a garage queen or meant to be kept a long time.
It’s a good option for boaters that aren’t on top of their stuff wiping down wise, and there are a lot of slackers out there from the water spots I’ve seen lol.

The CC doesn’t fare any better than wax on a Fiberglas non painted toy hauler. Wax/polish every six months is cheaper and has same results

I miss my shitty faded gel Bahner...life was easier back then.
My 84’ Eliminator Liberty was the same: no gel left on the deck when I got it.
Ran a buffing wheel at 2700 RPM’s before every other trip: looked like new lol, until next trip

You were a better man than me...I just splashed water on the deck if I wanted it to shine.

I had G-technique put on my cobalt when it was brand new. 5 year or 7 year "warranty" blah, blah, blah....... Anybody ever claimed on one of those warranties? That was 2 years ago. I would say after one season it was back to same old same old, scrubbing the boat on the ramp to get the spots off. Is the water different at Powell? I don't think so. I've tried a few spot removal solutions (some recommended from RDP) and none of them really worked any better. Finally went back to Hot Sauce, it's crap too. Seems like boat has to be in the shade at just the right temp with the exact amount of 3/4 gallon on your one rag before you wipe, in order to get the spots off. I'm done. I'm going back old school, it always worked in the past. Carnuba Wax a couple times a year, water and vinegar at ramp to remove spots. Each spring do a light polish coat prior to carnuba paste. And if it doesn't look "wet" enough after that wax, put on one more coat, WTH. My bet is I'll save a crap ton of money and probably not cost myself any time.

Rant over!

Well, almost. "Sauce"? Really? No points for originality on that one. How about juice or shine or gloss or drool! I don't know, something other than what the "other guy" already has done.

Sorry, maybe I'm having a bad day........... just done with all this, "buy this and it will be easy" crap.

To answer your question - has anybody has ever laid claim to one of those warranties - the answer is absolutely.

Chris did a ton of boats and he got a bad batch of product.. a lot of them weren’t performing as advertised so when the customers brought them back he redid them for free.

Seems like a popular thing to do in the detail world these days. Is this a ground-up formulation, or just re-branding a known product?

When they ceramic coat a boat they have to sell a product to maintain the boat.. Certain cleaning products will damage the ceramic.

So what this basically is, is what he sells to maintain his customers boats that have been ceramic coated, to help aid in the longevity of the costing itself. I would assume it is rebranded something, what that is I don’t know.

Thank you! Will stop by on the next trip.

Here is my regimen on my Hallett.
The gel is metallic Root beer brown with a lot of clear coat.
I use Driven Marine Polish with a wet soft foam pad with my Porter Cable buffer. Wool pads if not used properly can be too abrasive.
I am never aggressive as I do not want to eat through the clear coat.
The clear protects the gel.
I have detailed many of friends boats over the years.
What I have seen is either the clear was not there to begin with or somewhere down the road someone was too aggressive with the buffer.
Whenever I see the slightest color on the pad I stop, There is no clear and I am into the gel.
The only thing I can do at this point is to use Marine Polish to try to protect the gel as best I can.
I do not claim to be a professional detailer nor do I want to be, however, I have learned a lot over the years and I don't mind sharing.
If you are in my area, Mohave Valley, and you want to see the most beautiful 77 Hallett Mini Cruiser, be my guest.
Sorry if I ruffled any feathers. I just call it the way I see it and I stand by what has worked for me over years.
I hate to see people pulled into trends that are not proven.

Yes it is a JET BOAT and it is not a garage queen.

Remember, vinegar as well as gasoline can eat silicone.
