Yep. Should have had frequencies all laid out. And seriously..... they should have had a live feed on the net. Poor execution if ya ask me.

I’d they only had a way to share info with 10,000 people.

This is one reason why the Havasu Shootout has not grown.

IMO, the biggest issues keeping Shootout from growing,
Issue 1 = Wind
Issue 2 = Sponsorship - need sponsors just for the Shootout. But have to fix 3 and 4 before this gets addressed
Issue 3 = Limited communication of what speed was run (seems like a simple fix. Channel x for participants, channel y for spectators
Issue 4 = No streaming of the event. More complex to resolve, but could be done from the island or from across the island on CA land to limit spectator interference

I think the new ownership of DS is listening more than past ownership. They need a couple years to resolve issues from the past and then let’s see what occurs. The street party was awesome and better than I expected with DS registered participants down almost 50% from prior years. SCFW helped and I think the two events together will help. Remember SCF @ LOTO is right before the shootout.

From what I remember theres a severe data issue in Havasu? Didn't @RiverDave try streaming the street fair and they couldn't due to bandwidth issues?

Simple fix. Starlink
I cant remember if the bottle neck was the provider or transmitting the data from camera/mic to network. I think it was the provider, but you make a good point. Starlink didn't exist back then.

Seems without too much effort, they could really up the coverage of the shootout. Just takes a few people to be involved with the know how.

RD did transmit live from the DS street party at least once. I had the pleasure of watching it from the docks of Bahrain, in the middle east. Mini Kat rolled up on a friggin’ skate board and did a great job as the totally ad lib emcee. The closing circular, late evening discussion with a bunch of very well watered participants was epic. I’ve no idea what RD used as server, but it worked and pretty damned well. And was very much appreciated. That was quite a few years ago.

They could post the results on one of the many apps that are already available for the purpose of time tracking. I’ve used them at racetracks before, they work just fine and you don’t have to broadcast anything.
As far as broadcasting, the problem is who wants to foot the bill to pay for the extra efforts if the shootout is canceled due to weather?

Is broadcasting going to significantly up the participation in the event? I don’t think so.

@skater40

Sincere congrats. I’ve admired your operation since the early 2000s, when I first saw Predator I in the Marriott parking lot, then on Lake Powell the next day as you blew by us.

We use spot trackers and Trackleaders in bike racing. It could be easily done because it’s already being done.

So a boat that always runs in the low 180's suddenly runs 204... yeah ok.
For what's its worth, when they pulled out at the islander there were pictures being taken of the props by guys that do not own this boat. If I had to guess they were the prop manufacturers.

So yeah, 185 to 204 is absolutely possible.
You really think they didn't tweak anything after run number one?

There's no suddenly conspiracy theory.

Back in the day when the Poker Run race, that was not a race, we encountered a beautiful big cat limping back to Thompson bay on one engine at idle up the AZ side of the lake. We knew of the strict rules for the participants. But, these broken down, bummed out guys were no longer participants. When we approached them they waved us off with a thumbs up. It was then we held up an iced down 12 pak. With smiles they waved us in. Can only imagine the preparation for that day. Their dejection was apparent. Really great to see their big smiles when we passed those cold ones across.
