Me either, but the thought of taxing it, instead of spending millions to put people in jail for it seems like a better alternative.

The liquor industry is pretty profitable. I imagine the pot industry will be too.

The initial estimates are that the end of prohibition in Colorado and Washington could reduce Mexican drug cartel revenues by as much as 30%. It's time to keep the money here in the states and tax the sh*t out of it.

Just the money saved in the judicial system will be massive, it's kinda sad that we have use the "just tax the shit out of it" excuse to get it passed through, when what we really want is less taxes on everything, but hey, it's a step in the right direction. :thumbsup Good job Colorado.

It will be interesting to see the figures over the next couple of years, how much the state makes or saves. Other states will soon follow.

So what happens with the Feds? Will they step in and enforce laws or look the other way?

Probably step in like they did in Kali , shut down a bunch of growers and dispensaries after a few years

I was wondering the same. Is the Fed going to start policing the states that aren't falling in line with their expectations?

The cartels will just concentrate on Meth and heroin so you wont put a dent in them. Hey let's give Americans another way to get fucked up so we can get money to give to the government.:thumbsup

A true pot smoker doesn't like uppers , they just don't want to get hassled for having half a gram. Tweakers and heroin users don't generally like pot, this a good thing in the grand scheme of things.

You can't classify a stoner in the same class as a tweaker, that's like saying a Muslim is a Mormon :D

The legal dealers and dispenseries get caught because they don't claim income . Drugs have always been cash dealings, to it by the book you have to follow the legal rules, then you won't get fucked with and you can turn a legal profit . Good gig if you have a card. You grow a bunch of plants legally , only distribute to legal dispenseries you can turn a mean profit

This happens quite a bit in San Francisco and Oakland CA.

both cities allow medical marijuana and both cities have essentially given up prosecuting pot crimes.

The feds come in every once in a while to the medical marijuana dispensiaries and break down doors and haul everything away. Its pure comedy. :D

So what happens with the Feds? Will they step in and enforce laws or look the other way?

The Fed's involvement is unknown right now but here's what I do know. Colorado already has a huge medical marijuana community. The Fed's did not raid anyone or bust any of the MMj businesses however they did tell the banks that anyone who had dealings with an MMJ business would lose their FDIC insurance so the MMJ dispensaries had to start dealing in cash only because merchant service providers pulled all their machines out of the dispensaries. The state over regulated the MMJ community and everyone started to go back underground causing the state lose a lot of what would have been and could have been a huge tax wind fall. Time will only tell if the state can create responsible regulation on the recreational use business.

Recreational Marijuana is not only good for taxes but it's also going to be a huge job creator as well.

I would imagine cheeba would help take the discomfort out of gay sex. Fags probably get medical cards to treat their ass pain.

You do realize how many people already smoke pot in America. We would be only legalizing what is going on already.

And the only thing that has anything to worry about from pot smokers is a bag a chips...:p

So,what exactly is the law? Legal to burn, but still illegal to grow unless you have a card or some kind of liscense?

IF!! it's just legal, all around,I don't see them making any tax money. The shit grows like a weed.Trying to tax it would be like trying to tax anyone growing tomatos in their back yard.

I say good for CO. either way.

I say good for CO. either way.

The law states that people can have up to 1 oz. of Marijuana on their person. Private citizens can grow up to 6 plant's and they are allowed to make non profit sales to other private citizens of 1 oz. or less. The law requires the Colorado State Department of Revenue to create a regulatory plan that will allow Marijuana retail stores to be established and operate under similar rules and regulations as the alcohol industry. It also requires the Department of Revenue to create regulations that will allow for the commercial cultivation and distribution of Marijuana to the retail establishments.

The idea that allowing private citizen's to grow it will eliminate the ability to tax it has been proven to be false. MMJ (Medical Marijuana) patients in Colorado can grow 6 plants with a standard medical card but the law allows physicians to make recommendations that allow people to grow even more plants if they intend to consume edibles. As far as it growing like a weed you are correct to an extent but growing the quality of weed people in Colorado have become accustomed to isn't just throwing a few seeds in a pot and watering it daily, it's an art form. Despite MMJ patients being allowed to grow their own the MMJ business is still alive and going strong, most pot heads are to lazy to grow their own and would prefer to buy it at a store.
