Went to one out here last night. Located on top a hill at 1st and the 118. Has an amazing view of the town from the parking lot especially at night.
Wife likes the salads.

Yeah,,, it's going down hill size and portion wise. The shakes are still good and always something unique.

They never get my order right, ever, always check it before leaving, always.
The mini tacos and a churro are pretty good for the money, but did prefer the 3 large Tacos that are now smaller than they used to be so not so much anymore.

Before I opened this thread, I was going with 5 posts before someone said something about how horrible this food is for your body or something negative to that effect....I was surprised it didnt come until like post 10 or so...lol

Funny, I thought the same thing. Nobody walks in the door thinking you're getting
" best for you" food. Good to know someone here will remind you of it.😆

Just buy the Del Tacos! They are like the regular tacos used to be! My daughter stopped at one of the Barstow Del Tacos and ordered her regular order and forgot how much bigger the portions are! She left with extra food!

The east Main St Del Taco is one of the few drive thru's that is trailer friendly. At least for a dually and a 19' jet bote...

My brother's (now ex) wife managed the First st. location in the early 90's, while going to college.

Barstow is THEE Del Taco town.

When they killed the Spicy jack chicken quesadilla it ruined it for me. I wonder if Barstow still has them?
Yep. Fucking Jack killed that goodness. Also killed the sauce in the Del Classic Burrito.

Now I order a Del Taco, a fish taco, sm diet and that is about $12 bucks. Don't hardly go there these days. Only fast food I semi trust is Del, In and Out, and Wendys. Since they dont freeze their meat.

I haven't partook in any of that so far this month and I just might make it the entire month without it.

We stick to only what we know we we like at Del Taco and other joints.
The tortillas and beans are typical fast food tasting.

But speaking of Mexican food:
Dunno where Maria at Lillies in Parker gets her tortillas, but they are amazing as is her rice and beans. Probably makes them fresh. Worth for the visit alone.
It's a successful location for good reasons.

Good for you👍

I used to be a 2-3 times a week Del Taco Guy.
Been trying to cut fast food out and the Del was a definite weakness.
The local Del Taco sorta helped me kick it when they installed the kiosk and completely ignore people at the counter.
I was sort of disappointed but probably a blessing in disguise.

This store up in Woodcrest local to us was above par vs most any down here.
They guy running it has been for 15-20 years as far as I can tell.
Plays Christian music in the store and had the local conservative newspaper on a rack by the front door and kept the place clean.

So now I’m down to just In & Out. Can’t do Wendy’s. Worked there in high school.
Apparently I still hold a grudge.

She's a character Maria. She will tell you no and smile. Tough as nails she is.

Their food is above par even though they are not popular with the boating crowd, the locals know whats what.

Their Machaca burrito....why did I even chime in (drooling). Their not open on Sundays, in fact Crossroads has been flopping around their hrs. lately and is a bit of a wild card.

Growling up we didn't have a lot of money, so we rarely ate fast food. Del Taco tacos were always a treat. Those, and the food from Naugles on Van Buren in Woodcrest coming back from Riverside International Raceway, or even after a day of fishing at Perris. Taco Bell regular tacos too from lunch hour in HS.

And yes, I can make kick ass tacos, hard shell, street style, or birria.

But I will always splurge on fast food tacos, even if they kill me. :D 😂

We had heard Crossroads was also running the kitchen at Fox's. Is that still the case?

As a kid, I always felt they made del tacos so the poor kids who couldn't afford Taco Bell could get some food.

I've decided to finish out the month with no fast food.

That said if someone shows up with a couple Del Tacos I cannot confirm nor deny what would happen to those. 😁

Not sure on that one. We always have our Aussie with us and Fox's isn't too keen on dogs.

I thought it was the early bird?

I maybe should have chosen my words better before.
I don’t go to much of the big name fast food chains.Refuse to step foot in a Farmer Boys. Or any of the burto holes.

Now a Zorba’s...they make a good patty melt and have a great pastrami on rye.

A Tams burger.... very satisfying.
Other than the Del Taco I don’t really miss any of it?
Ate at Chick Filet once about 6 months ago to see what all the hype was about.
Nothing special. A Popeyes is as good if you can stand the getto trash.

Most fast food and pizza joints did it to themselves. Horrible service, lack luster food, dirty dining rooms etc.
$4 for an iced tea? Wtf
who needs any of that??

I'm done with most fast foods places.

Down to Jack Tacos and In &Out.

I still like the Big Mac but it's $7.00 in Simi Valley. WTF

Knock the 'burto holes' all you want, it's the closest thing to Mexican food I've found out here in Texas so far. I was telling a coworker how I gave up on finding Mexican food and she told me about an Alberto's in Saginaw. That shit hit the spot! Got a California burrito, and it was the best burrito I've had out here so far.

I woulda thought Texas would have some real Mexican food?
I guess if that’s what you have. 🤷‍♂️
Is strange 2 Mexican border states have such a vast difference in choice of Mexican food?

I could live on it👍

… As I was having all my dental work done… There was a McDonald’s next-door… Found out I could get a vanilla milkshake …a small one…for about four something…As the work progressed and I could chew some…I discovered you can still get a McDonald’s cheeseburger for $2.47…(Tastes way better than a Big Mac)… I did that each day for a few visits… Just told them hold the tomato 🤷🏽‍♀️… Oh and I upsized the milkshake to a medium… What a meal…👍

We have Tex-Mex, I call it Tex-mess. I guess you could get used to it, but it's not what I grew up eating in California. I imagine there's regional variations in Mexican food like there is any other cuisine. I think this sums it up pretty well.

A couple of months ago, my wife and I stopped at the Barstow Outlet Del Taco. We saw Ed the founder and owner there bringing food to the tables. We said hi, and he sat with us and told us the Del Taco story about how he started it after working for Glen Bell (Taco Bell). Great guy. I think he lives in Dana Point area and goes to the stores a couple days a week. He gave me his business card with his email and cell phone and said to contact him anytime if I would like.

Not so much about Del Taco, but more about a sign of the times.

The McDonald’s I went o this morning is now charging a .10 “bag fee”. I know they are franchises, so all of them might not do it. Just thought it was .. interesting. 🤨

I was in Bridgeport and June Lake recently doing some late season trout fishing, on the way home stopped at Schat's in Bishop for a Pastrami sandwich ( haven't been since 2020). The amount ( lack of) Pastrami on my sandwich was a joke. Just increase the price, don't decrease the meat. All I tasted was bread. My Dad lives in Chatsworth, I plan on stopping by Brent's when a visit him in a couple weeks. I really hope Brent's doesn't let me down.

This whole shrinkflation makes me wonder what sandwiches from a Jewish Deli look like today.

They used to have about 3-4 normal sandwiches worth of meat on them back in the day. So either the sandwich now costs $50 or its a lot smaller today.

That's not accurate. The tacos are $2.49 each. So really $5 for the two tacos as pictured. Now its only a $5 upcharge for the drink and fries, neither of which are really small (small is the old medium).

Just pointing that out.
