This place sells amazon/costco returns basically....or damaged packing items, which the a/c units appear to be. They got bbqs, a handful of appliances, stovehoods, etc. Miscellaneous items.

I can see the label on the 18k says Return Center. Boxes were damaged but did not appear to have been opened.

That's what they do there, show the retail price & sell at 50%.
I bought a good Honda powered pressure washer on line at Lowe’s, I was out of town when it arrived, an employee marked it for floor sale. Sticker said clearance price $599.00, retail $1200.
The online price I paid is $599.00. Kinda crooked if you ask me, I still received it at my original price when I walked in, but it was a 1.5hr hassle due to that status change to floor sale and there was a $0.50 cent discrepancy they had trouble reconciling, LOL.

OK, so what's the typical cost to get a couple of these installed in a garage?

DIY Mike, easy as hell if you go single zone each. Just have an Electrician run the power.
Multi zone units have an AC guy do it.

21 year old girl we know converted her garage to a Hair salon and she installed two herself. No help just AC electrical looks good runs quiet cools nicely.

Only advise I give to anyone is use the line set as delivered. Don't trim it to look good or to fit. Hide it if you have to.
It's essential to uses it's designed length for several reason beyond the scope of a DIY.

Mitsubishi was available for a spell at Home Depot, dunno but most the brands out there are good. Remote control is wireless and the dc/control electrical is like running speaker wires, even easier.

This only pertains to Mr Cool units.
I personally don't like Mr Cool because you can't shorten the line set and it looks like shit with to much line set.

How does a DIY’er vacuum down the system prior to charging the system? I’ve installed a lot of these but always get a buddy to swing by and vacuum down, charge and do startup.

You need an HVAC vacuum, gauges and refrigerant. Plenty of videos on YouTube.

Don't need to do anything on a Mr.Cool.
They have pre-filled lines and don't need anything other then connected.

You can get Mitsubishi (which in my eyes is the best) for around the same price.😎
They practically started the mini-split arena. I redid my AC system a couple years ago with a new 3 ton and matching furnace. Expensive to run and 16 Seer. 1450 sq ft home.

I regret not doing mini splits. My electric bill is going to really suck this month. In comparison during the winter months its 170 bucks on average.

So in Mexico, mini splits are a big deal. I go to Tijuana for dentistry and there is a Costco that is basically across the street from my dentist. They have like 6 different mini split setups every time I go and they are all brand names plus we all know the Costco return policy. Anyways, the 110v ones with I think are 12,000BTU are like $475. The biggest 220v ones that have one huge outdoor unit and two indoor wall mounts are like at or around $1,000. We're moving to Temecula soon and I'm planning on getting one for the garage as I am always wrenching on bikes. I know I took pictures the last time I was down there, but will have to find them.

We live in Indio - had a local guy do a side job - he brought it over from Mexico - AUX (made by York) 3 ton unit. Ran Electrical and installed for $3K. Has our garage ice cold. Not sure why we waited to do this.

I just finished installing a 2 ton unit in my garage in Willow Valley. Had a buddy hook up 220 and paid an AC guy $300 toe vac and complete system. Very easy install, took my about 3.5 hours taking my time.

Yeah, it's just normal shopping at the Costco. I have Global Sentri so buy stuff over there all the time. I've never had an issue.
