Do you need to be a citizen to be a LEO? I’ve never thought about it until now.

IL has proposed the same type of law... What's the worst that could happen?

There is no law against it but why would a department spend the money to train someone who, even if legal on a work permit, would be leaving the country at some point.

This is not the first non-citizen.... just a political hot button because they are DACA.

I think the video post is a a little inflammatory. Those are DACA kids. Those are youngsters who were brought here as babies or minors and grew up here. Many of them don't even speak Spanish. They have never known anything else than America. We've already paid for their schooling, Section 8 housing and whatever other social programs they received.

These are the "Dreamers" that have been talked about since Obama's presidency. They ought to be put on a path to citizenship, and having them police their own communities doesn't seem like a bad thing.

I'd trade plenty of lazy ass Americans for some hard working Latinos that walked 2000 miles to get here to find a job.

IDK--these are DACA officers. Most were either born here in America or brought illegally into America and have no ties to MX.
They have to renew their DACA papers every two years. Requires lawyers and costs them thousands to renew.
I had one DACA employee that was one of my best workers/ Had to lay him off when his papers were not renewed in time (not his fault--he filed 7mo before expiration) or our Company would get fined. Fortunately, was able to hire him back once they came through two months later.

These officers would not be my first choice--but with recruitment low, its not a bad option.

This is the part that is pandoras box. How long before someone demands OT or files a workers comp case since the performance of their duties is 24 hrs/365

“Federal law would generally prohibit such a person, who's in the U.S. under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals immigration policy, from possessing a gun or ammunition, but by LAPD making their off-hours part of the, "performance of their official duties or other law enforcement purpose," these officers would be allowed to carry their guns while away from work, according to a new policy memo.”
