I have a devastated family since yesterday about 11:30 am.

Almost 8 years old her heart failed.
There was a murmur detected in May.

We had a great morning in the sunshine in the backyard.Yard work, periodic throwing of the ball and her favorite thing...playing with the hose.
After I put the hose away I went down the side of the house to throw some stuff in the trash and throw a couple tools in the tool box. Came back to the patio and she was laying there, her bladder had already evacuated.:(

Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a hereditary heart issue. It is passed along as a result of poor breeding practices, by failing to properly screen for health in the sire and dam as well as their siblings.
Those tests along with an array of others cost a small fortune as well as time invested in research of the lineage.
This is what separates a $2,500 Dobermann from a $400 Dobermann.
Sorry for the slight rant, the grieving process is pulling a wide array of thought and emotion.

She had the drive, she had the temperament, she had as much love as there was to give.
She was without a doubt the best dog I have ever had.Smart, loyal, fearless, protective of my children and family, great with other non dominant dogs, and one of my best friends.
There will never be another like her.

fuckkkkkkkkkk.

Sorry about your pup. Godspeed. She went quick and sounds like in no pain. Dignified at least

I still grieve the loss of Mopar.

Keep your head up.

So sorry to hear about this GC. I know how special your dogs are to you and have similar background in the dog world.

Be strong for your family and know the dogs was the luckiest dog to have lived with you.

I'm so sorry gel coater. Saying goodbye to bagheera was one of the hardest things I had to do. Actually I couldn't do it. My wife had to take him. He is in a box above my fireplace

Always a hard read considering how much I loved my boy that I had to put down this year, but its good to hear of great dogs living with good families and having the best, albeit too short lives that they could have, rest in peace my furry friend, you were greatly loved.

I am so sorry for the loss of your family member. It leaves a huge hole in your heart but it shrinks over time but never fully closes. I speak from experience.

Sorry to read this, it's clear how important of a role your pups play in your family. Giving them the best lives possible in the short amount of time they're with us is all that matters.

My own 8 yr old Daisy Duke is sitting under my desk as I type and just got an extra treat, she says thanks Daisy.

It's a strange thing.. To some people dogs are dogs.. and to others dogs are like children and there's good reason for both I suppose.

When I lost Neva when I first moved to Havasu it was like I lost a child. A lot of people on the forums used to say "Well you don't have kids so you wouldn't understand." We had Sierra at that time, and I stand by the statement. I had her from when she was so small she couldn't cross a threshold of a door way, and spent nearly every day with her since that time.. Only parting a few times with her for work etc, where I would say she was looked after better than most people treat their own children. With her it was the same way with regard that it was sudden and unexpected. She just kinda froze when we were walking and I ended up having to carry her to the truck, and the next morning I had to put her down..

Honestly it hurt me about as much as your going to hurt a person, and as fucked up as it sounds at the time it was comparable to the loss of my father. I was somewhat broken as a human being for awhile, and in my own way kind of pushed everyone away to a degree.

I went out to fill the hole in my heart and got another dog (Sasha) literally within a week. She is beautiful, non aggressive, wonderful with my children, and extremely protective of them. She is a great dog and a member of our family. I joke around and call her my 65.00 dog because that's what I'm in, and for 130.00 she's yours type thing.. Over the years Sasha has managed to squeeze her way into my heart, and I care for her a great deal. She was around 3 when I got her, and we've been here for 5-6 years now so I know it's coming at some point. I'll be bummed when it's time, but honestly I'm so scarred from Neva dying I'll never let myself get that close to a dog again where it will affect me like it did with Neva. I get water in my eyes just thinking about it.

Not sure if the story helps or not, but the point was to say I understand what it's like to be that close to a dog, and for a lot of people they'll get one that "That's the one." Neva was mine.. As you put it for Daisy "They'll never be another one like her" I'm sure that was yours.

You have my condolences.

I thank everyone for their sympathies.
It's been one difficult damn day.

I try to get up and do something, anything, and the wind falls from my sails.
She didn't get up to go with me.

For those that don't know this breed they have a nickname of "the Velcro dogs" because they stick to you. It's like the heal command is just an instinct or something.
If I got up to grab a beer she was right there with me. If I stepped out back to have a smoke she was right there with me.
Go tell the kids it's time for dinner, she's right there.

She isn't right there anymore. It is like a piece of me is missing.

Rocky the black has been a mope all day as well. He showed little interest in ball fun.

I can't help but share a few more pictures, and sorry to be such a buzzkill.

You aren't alone brother.

Mopar went out at 3AM and much less dignified for the life she lead.

When I woke up later on in the morning I sat up, hoping to see her laying in her bed, even though I knew she wouldn't be, hoping it was nothing more than just a bad fucking nightmare.

I laid back down that morning and cried like a baby and tearing up right now as I recall that moment.

Keep your head up. She lived a good life with a family who loved her.

Words are no where to be found to describe the loss of a great dog, except to say you gave her a great life and she in return gave the same. Nice work, we feel your pain and hope it easies soon.

The loss of a pet is very hard thing. To you, you lost a family member and well to a lot of the world it was a dog. Makes it hard. I went through it 2 years ago and still miss my 4 legged friends everyday. Only time will help, I wish there was something else.

Wow, what a dog. So sorry Gelcoater, not much else else to say. We've all been there, but in my case at least, always knew it was coming and had time to prepare. Best to you and the family.

Hang in there. Breaks my heart hearing your story 3 years after losing my 5 yo Dobie. We didn't know any better and bought a backyard bred dobie... tragic results for us. Agree on paying up front if you want one of these dogs. Next time we will spend the $$$, have blood work in hand with a reputable breeder. No guarantee but better odds for a long healthy life. Prayers to you and family.

I know your heat break we put our Dobi girl Diesel down july 21 she was 13 1/2 years old i knew she was slowing down and they just don't get much older but it does not make it any easier.
We have been lucky twice with cheap puppies with no testing but the next one i'm going to with a top breeder.i can't take the chance going through this more than i have to.

Sorry for your loss. It's tough when your companion and buddy leaves you.

I've owned a few Dobermans over the years, and they were the most loyal, loving, and fun pets I've ever had. They love kids, and one of mine even had a sense of humor...that's the only way to describe it.

I hope you and your family will lose the pain of the loss soon and the good memories will stay with you always. It's so difficult to lose a pet.

Last month one of our cats died suddenly. He was a friendly, loving kitty, and only eight years old. My wife and I are still grieving, and I'm filled with guilt for not noticing he was in distress until it was too late.

You have my sympathy. :(

These threads never get easier.... I am so sorry, I know the feeling all to well, as I had to put my sweet sky down back in April.

My eyes are wet just reading this, and I am absolutely heartbroken for you and your family... I still have struggles with the loss of my sweet girl, and they say time heals all, but I am not so sure....
