Hey Nordie what this the purpose of the rebar that looks like it is coils?

He said end diaphragm, so I would bet that's the end of a long wall pour? Circular rebar would give the most surface area between the rebar and the concrete, lessening the chance for fracture or separation. It also seems like it would give vertical and horizontal support at the same time.

Total guess, I'm just a dumb GC.. [emoji16]

Thanks for the guess. I was kind of thinking along that line. Just had no clue and thought I’d ask. And it’s ok I am just a salesmen that has been doing my job for only 30 years do GC‘s don’t think I know anything in my field. LOL

Close, there is a girder wall there, but there is also a duct that goes into the spiral and connects to a bearing plate. After the girders and top deck is poured, there's a stressing crew that will add 27 5/8" post tension cables in each duct. This bridge has 4 girder walls and 4 runs of duct in each girderline. That's why you see 4 spirals vertically. The bearing plate is also what the hydraulic ram sits against to pull those cables, and the pressures of that is absolutely insane. I'll see if I can find some better pictures.

Of course, ironworkers are the ones that stress them. Stressing scares the shit out of me.

Thanks for the explanation. I have always fascinated by big construction and building of the roadways in SoCal.

Put some new tires on the jeep and went for a little ride. Bar in oatman is BYOB and self service.

Went down to the Tribal Beaches but was asked very politely to leave by police within 30 mins. Lots of people out on the water, summer is here!
