In my news feed this morning:

I’ve been in the HD Engine business for 40 years. I’ve wondered why diesel manufacturers haven’t done this for almost that entire time. First one I know of. Emissions are soooooo easy this way. Yes, I understand knock etc, but EGR helps with that and the peak torque numbers (the limit with knock concerns) are super close to diesel.

Pretty cool, I haven’t been able to find if it’s a compression ignition engine or if it’ll use spark plugs? Bassd On some of the old articles they were striving for a ‘fuel agnostic’ engine so I’d assume it’s still a compression engine 👍🤷‍♂️

If CARB can’t be stopped, this is the new solution to the med duty truck problem in CA. Water trucks, dump trucks, vacuum trucks, etc will be outfitted with this to fill the void in med side production class. Biggest problem is fueling in job sites, theft, and pouring diesel in the tanks due to stupid operators.

I am interested… Love those torque ####s…
I would never buy the first year production…
But after a year or two… and it proves its reliable at lower cost than diesel truck… I could be be swayed to buy one in the future.

I’m sure it’s spark. When they started making on highway nat gas versions 30 years ago they had this path available. They finally went to market with a 15 liter spark product last year. Easy to take those platforms to gasoline.

TOTALLY agree. I would add fire as another downside though…

Hall Scott did pretty well with gasoline back in the early days....2000 ci V12 made 600hp at 2000rpms in the 1930s
Good point here. Gasoline was the first platform for HD trucks. Efficiency benefits of diesel ended that.

Just weird that it has such low RPMs

That’s kinda what makes it cool. More about stroke longer than bore than ignition source. Mimicking diesel performance. With that said, 3200 is spinning pretty fast.

Does not surprise me.

Friend works corporate for AAA.

AAA has been switching their tow trucks to gas engines for the last several years. Tired of the costs associated with diesel and the BS of re-gens. And the initial cost of the truck. Also the high cost of diesel maintenance & repairs.

I didn't think AAA owned any tow trucks

Those have an awesome sound all their own.
All the two cycles do. I’m still amazed that was ever a thing. The older of the two ferries that run between the Bridge and the Landing has Detroit’s, I’m guessing 71s, dunno for sure.
