I need to get a load of base on Saturday (3-4 yds) in my dump trailer. Seems like most places are closed on saturdays. I used to always go to Dan copp in Santa Fe springs but they’ve closed up shop there. Any suggestions? So cal area.

Van Norman 🤣 actually I don't know if you could get it there without getting in trouble. You can get it at Ramco in Sun Valley. You can for sure get wood chips/grindings for your planters from Van Norman without issue.

Also going to need clean fill dirt preferably near San Gabriel valley. I have a dump trailer if there’s a place that will load it out.

Look up resource building materials, southeast construction products or thompsons building matials. Any masonry building materials supplier should have it. Typically they're open on sat. At least half day...

This !

We buy base every day but Sunday.

Site one in Los Alamitos is not to far from Santa Fe Springs

There is guy that I met out in Havasu that delivers aggregates and now I can't find his number.

I get base from CWS. It's free with a account. Block from Hustler casino. Open until 7 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. They have free dirt also.

If you were close I could bring you 6 dump trailers of dirt. From a Redondo Beach job we are loading today. My other neighbor in Torrance has 3 loads or so for next week.

West Coast Sand & Gravel - but then I don’t know if you can get less than 10 cubic yards.

Slightly unrelated question: What is the best type of gravel to use for light-duty pavers (backyard application, not driveway?) Or perhaps instead of best, what is the cheapest?

In my city we're not allowed concrete for certain applications around the house, so I need a 1k sqft or more of pavers. Will probably do modern pavers like this

Road Base. It's free or cheap. Crushed concrete and asphalt. It compacts really well and easy to shape and grade with a plate compactor. My driveway here is currently 6" of Base. Have not decided on pavers or concrete or a combo of both.

I crush concrete and line up for base at least once a week at Ewles Materials. This location in South OC out Ortega Hwy but the closest they get to LA is Stanton I believe.

For those that don't know.... broken concrete is dumped and later crushed giving you a basic explanation of road base. I put it under all my concrete pours and it Whacks or tamps down nicely providing a more reliable long term slab.

I was just there yesterday.

2" minimum compacted under all slabs. 4" minimum under pavers. 2-3" under synthetic grass.

I put down 4" compacted with my old 710 lb wacker. Poured 1 1/2" thick temporary parking spot 10 years ago. Used to park my international dump truck on it regularly. And 12k work truck for last 7 years. It has held up great. Finally getting around to developing that lot so it will be torn out.

My neighbor 3 doors over from this house. Put 12" down under his paver driveway for his motor home. That was 16 years ago. Looks like the day we installed it. No sinking or movement.

I like southeast but they are expensive for traditional base. Most places are around $20 for 10 tons but the blend southeast uses is around $30 for 900 pounds or ‘one scoop’.

Bump. Anyone know a cheaper place to get 3/4” drain gravel? Had to pay $33 for 900lbs. Dump trailer can hold about 6 tons comfortably so ends up being $200+. Seemed a little pricey to me. That was at southeast construction products. Even the 1,100lbs bags for $28 at Home Depot would’ve been cheaper. I assume there a bulk material spot someone knows about.

Your location is important.

Preferably San Gabriel valley but I work near LAX and can pick it up anywhere off the 105/605/60 or even take the 91 if there’s somewhere that has it.

You guys know a cheap spot to dump clean cinder block (no rebar just stucco on one side) around San Gabriel valley? Dan copp used to be $70 no matter how much but their place in Santa Fe springs closed.
