Right back where the passenger side airbag is? It is a known problem.

Wife has a 2011 Denali with same issue. How did you get gmc to pay for the second dash replacement? It's a common problem and pisses me off too.

wifey was getting the bs story from the service manager that it was our fault for using the wrong cleaner on the dash!!!!! I called the general manager (who I think owns the place) and suggested we find a way to resolve this (more bees with honey on the first try). His "boy" called me back and asked to see the vehicle (it was already at the dealership) and they had the part in stock (interesting why a dealership would have a dash in stock??). I had suggested to the general manager that the service manager was not handling this correctly and that we wanted to continue to do business there and that I paid for the first one (1200+) and that they (the dealer and GMC) should figure this out. I didn't find out until later that this is a common problem on those years 2007-2013. :grumble:

The GM's boy said he had to get it approved from corporate to make it happen. Guess he did.

Just wondering if I can find a way to get the 1200 from the first one back now???

This is not a vehicle that sits out in the heat, we live on the coast where there are very few days over 80!!! This is straight up a design and support flaw that they need to fix if they want us to continue to support their products.

I thought cracking dashboards was resolved in the late 80's. I haven't seen a cracked dash on anything in decades.

My wife's Tahoe and in laws Denali are both cracked. I went the cheap route and put a dash mat on ours. Problem covered and no more glare either

Take it to the dealer. They have a program. You pay a deductible based on your current mileage and they replace it for well under cost. Had my 2010 wifes tahoe done. Chevys interiora in the 07-14 trucks is horrible.

Big B you are right.
They made us pay a 25.00 deductible and called it good. Just wonder if I can do anything to get back the 1200.00 I spent on the first replacement??

Same thing happened on my Mom's 07 suburban. A mat over it solved the problem.

I have lived with it all this time not knowing of a program, bummer. 2007 just turned 200,000 miles and only 10k of them in last 3 years.

The passanger air bag area isn't properly supported and causes the dash to crack at the weakest point.

Unfortunately they don't like to advertise it because they don't want to do it . LoL

We have a GMC Envoy. Motor is fine, the rest is "close enough" eginerring at best. The door panels started falling off, I figured the kids were over yanking and messed up the little push plugs that hold it on. I bought more of those, and put it back together. A week later the door panel is falling off again. Crap!

So I look better and I find there's a plastic Z that goes from the passenger handle to the door...all that really holds the thing together. I go to the dealer and they tell me the part is $185. They explain that the entire door card has to be replaced, happens all the time.

I made a replacement out of 1/16" brass, door never felt so solid.

When this thing goes to the dump, the door handles will still hold...Cheap!

It s interesting here with all the hardcore GM fanboys. This type of stuff + the roof rattle on Tahoe's, and a laundry list of other stuff, and yet there is still no other brand that is as great as the golden GM (you know the one that went BR recently and got to write off 10's of Billions in debt, that one). I wonder if there is a connection between this type of stuff and the 08 incident......

Just an interesting detail I am noticing.....

All three of them have their issues. I guess the question is "which is the lesser of the 3 evils"?:D

I have an '07 which has the same issue. Happened some time ago and GM told me to pound sand. As mentioned above, it's a known issue. Either cap it, mat it, or ignore it

Holy Crap! Wifie has an '04 Yukon we bought new in 04 and the dash still looks like it did when we got it. Maybe the fact it lives in the garage and only has 67,000 miles on it makes a difference.

It is an issue with the '07 & up models. That was the model year change

Happened on my 2007 Tahoe, dealer would not do anything about it. Funny, how many you see with the crack when walking through parking lots. Dash mat solved problem for me.

GMC = Garage mans companion.

Chevrolet = Constantly having every vehicle recalled on lousy engineering techniques.

Interesting. While I am a huge GM product fanboy and have owned a shit tone of GM products from the 60's to current, the product has treated me very well over the years. Had a few recall minor things here and there. Always hit taken care of. We do have a fully optioned 08 3/4 ton 4x4 Yukon XL with 60k miles that we absolutely love. I always say I'll never get rid of it. With that said, I have a crack in my dash on the drivers side. I thought it was caused by the stereo guys a while back. It's not a huge deal but our ride is nice and little things like that bug me. But it's a hairline crack so it's not so noticeable. The transmission going out and being a very well known GM issue on those models did piss me off greatly though! 3k later. 60k miles, haven't towed with it and the tranny goes out? Wtf??

Knock on wood...I have an 07 Denali, thought I was okay, until last month. Two cracks, 1 over the speedometer, the other center dash. Used gorilla glue to stop the crack, should of done it the second they appeared.

Guys - what dealers have you been to that have supported the replacement program? One on Harbor in OC said nothing existed and it would be 1k.

Rydell Chevy in Northridge did my 07 silverado. AutoNation in Santa Clarita did my wife's 2010 Tahoe in 2013 (warranty wouldn't cover it)

That's a feature....you must not have read the window sticker properly.

It's also why they don't have drain plugs...just let the boys at Hydramatic drain the core before rebuilding it.

Alexander GMC in Oxnard did the work (the second time) after I called and left a message with Mr. Alexander himself. GM knows about this and should stand behind it if they want us to continue to buy their stuff. My daughters 1995 Mustang has the original dash in it??? WTF GM ????

I dumped my 2001 GMC Yukon XL 4x4 in 2006.
It was ready for its 2nd water pump in 50k miles, 4wd elec module was fried, and the Autoride shocks were shot.
Drove it to North County GMC where I bought it and they bought it back from me.
I rented a car to get back home...wanted rid of that thing so bad.

I have a '04 Silverado Crew Cab now...on its 2nd transmission. Doh!

The trans issue in the 07 and up is a well known issue. There's some little pinion inside that pops out and causes the transmission to clunk and slip from what I've read. Very common. I had a buddy that owns a dealership and gave me a grand off and it's still 3k. 3 year warranty though.

Rydell Chevrolet has always taken good care of me. I've bought a couple new Trucks from them :thumbsup

I think the previous owner towed a lot and never changed the fluid. :grumble:
Bought the truck CPO with 77k at "Quality" Chevrolet in Escondido.

So at 98k I bought a GM Remanufactured 4L80E for $3200 from Paradise Chevrolet.

Good to know - Orange Coast GMC / Cadi dealer on Harbor was the dealer that said nothing like has ever existed.. I hate when they pull that - it insults my intelligence and makes me want to internet shop nationally and bid to the $ on my next ride....

In progress.

I hear you - at this point if local dealerships are not going to provide and advocate for customers - they are going the way of magazines and newspapers.

Common issue on all 3 of my 2008 GM vehicles 2 of which are always in the garage. I just threw dash Covers over them and called it a day but knowing they are there bugs the shit out of me. One of the vehicles only has 60k miles on it and sits in the garage. I think I am going to push the issue now and see what can be done about it.....probably nothing but its worth a try I guess. One of these is an '08 Silverado and what a difference in quality from the '07 Classic I had. Just seems like they went pretty cheap on the interior.
