Costco or Sam's gas- Do you wait?

Rolled by Sam's at lunch to get gas, saw the line and said hell no. I just cant do it. I have memberships to both but just don't see the value of saving a few bucks by waiting 30 plus minutes for gas. I will use them if I can drive right up. If not I'll pay the $.20 cents/ gallon more else where

I trip out on small cars that probably have a 10 gallon tank waiting in line. You are probably saving $2.00 (and that's if you're empty). My time is worth more to me.

Is there another 1970s gas crunch I don't know about??? Damn I love Arizona at times like this... Regular 87, $2.41 at Arco in BHC.... My Prototype 996 SLi gets me 38-44 MPG depending on how I drive it. Most I've been able to put in it was 5.1 gallons... That was @ 205 miles...Screw California even if it does have the best weather in the world...

Ours opens 5:30 AM and this morning no one there I bought 34 gal diesel and 36 gallons gasoline.
I do that twice a month so it adds up.

The “my filler is on the left side of my car” lanes are often packed, the other lanes much less so.

The hoses are long enough to reach, so I fill up at those pumps almost exclusively.

Premium is almost the same price as regular at non-Costco stations, so I try to fill up there as much as possible.

Hell no. Like someone else said seeing the compacts waiting is comical similar to going around the person waiting for the close parking spot only to still be waiting as I walk by them after parking myself in the last row.

No way in hell, the Costco that is right next to me has another station across the street that averages 3-5 cents more. I will burn more then $1 worth of fuel waiting in line

They just opened Murphy's by my house. I fill up my company truck there (company gas card) to acquire points, but use my points on personal vehicles. Every 100 points is .10 off a gallon. It takes about 3 weeks and I get up to a 1000 points, which is a dollar off a gallon. Usually my wife takes my points though. Best part is there are no lines

Here in PHX I fill up the Raptor with premium at Costco when we go there to shop. ~30 gallons makes it worthwhile even here in low-cost gas land

I can’t do it. The lines at both are off the charts. At the same time i don’t fill up at the place around the corner from me because they’re the most expensive place in town. I have a regular place near the house and office that have competitive prices and no lines.

I waited once at Costco, guessing about 30 min, 4 Dr 4wd long bed, surrounded by BMW and Mercedes, and a whole country’s worth the non English speaking types kinda like the RDP takeovers and where oil comes from, type places. Any way, only to to learn that the Costco in the 91506 zip code doesn’t sell effffin DIESEL! Lesson learned, wanna drive in California, buy a brushless Mikita lawnmower!

I buy 90% of all my fuel/gas at Sams. Just hate when I want to fill my bote to go on the river on Sundays to be stuck behind the California plated pickup trucks and Astro vans full of gas cans restarting the pumps 5 times to get their $500 in 87 to take back to wherever. At least the Canadian snowbirds have a system, waiting for the pump to open since 5:30 am ole lady at the pump with the cards and the ole man with his gloves on holding the pump in the 150 gal bed tank.

Never. My beater Saturn that gets 42mpg only holds 10 gallons. Ain’t worth my time one bit.

In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever filled up at either place.

I’ve noticed a few times when they’re packed, and I’ll keep driving, but usually the lines aren’t deep at all when I go...maybe I just go at off-peak times.

I shop at Safeway. I get groceries for my parents and brother too. Since Safeway gives reward points on purchases. The rewards can be put towards gas. By shopping for my immediate family, I easily earn 200 points per trip that equals to .20 cents off at the pump. The saving can be used at Chevron. Long way of saying why wait at Costco!

The Torrance 1 off Lomita Blvd is a zoo 7 days a week. They did not build enough pumps and parking lot fills up on a daily basis. Sam's club next door not so much always empty but no gas pumps and only 1 or 2 cashiers working so line takes as long as Costco.

Yeah I used to live in Lomita, that Costco was a zoo. I don’t think the gas pumps were working when we moved, IIRC they were installing them when we left the state.

I have two Safeway’s nearby so I’ve been getting gas there lately. $2.49 in Tucson Havasu seems to be about .30 more a gallon so I usually gas up in Parker and give CRIT my biz at running man.

So Cal gas prices suck soooo glad I’m off that program.

The one near the temecula mall is always slammed. Backed up into mall the access roads. People will hold up traffic and get honked at to save a .05 cents a gallon for their 4 gallon fill up.

I see Asian women in Costco gas line , Ac on for 20 minutes in the engine room to save seven cents! I use sams at Arroyo Crossing in Vegas, diesel is fine, in and out at around $2.90.

A few months or two ago to prove a point I topped off my range rover sport, went all the way to Huntington Beach came back three days later on the same tank.

I almost always fill up at Costco. It is typically 25 to 40 cents per gallon less and it adds up. There are certainly a lot of cars in line but with three pumps per lane it really actually moves pretty quickly. It's close enough and I most definitely see a big savings. I don't see it as a big deal to wait a few minutes.

There's a Tom Thumb (Safeway owned) store three blocks from my house, and they have the same points deal. Sometimes I get 40¢-50¢ per gallon off the already low price. I save those points for gassing up the Excursion's 44 gallon tank. Today 87 octane was $2.23.

The price of 87 at Sam's Club about three miles from my house was $1.98 today.
