I'm looking at a 2000 Hallett 210 open bow, pretty clean but original upholstery cracking/split here and there.
Can you guys give me an idea what it would cost roughly to redo in So. cal. or Havasu, no structural or anything, probably just plain white to keep it reasonable.
Thank you very much.

Not too much reasonable now a days. Even simple but good quality, a minimum of $12-15k.

I'm probably low.

Everything is crazy!
Wow glad I asked, I was thinking way too low.
Thanks for the help!
You know I could be wrong, but usually the open bow adds about 40% more. Maybe you'll get some other input from people that have had work done recently. I think I'm pretty accurate for someone like a boat manufacture, some independents could be less.

You're right on. 12k easy. But this boat needs floors, seat bases etc. So 15-18k is more like it.

It’s 1800 for a 240 snap in carpet section.

I would agree you would be looking at floors too and might as well check the belly tank if there is sitting water around it. I would plan on 20k.

I had 2 fiberglass buckets and a very simple rear bench done for a 19' outboard last year....cost me $1800 or so, and I brought patterns and the old foam. 20 years ago that would have been $600 max. It's not nice, it's shit. The material is shit and it looks like I did it myself on a walmart sewing machine. Whatever, it looks right in place in my POS boat.

I'd budget $5-8K if pretty basic, up to $20K if you want something special and it needs wood work. ..maybe more, unless you drag it south of border.

I had my 207 recovered as the foam and wood were in great shape. Cost
Me 2250 in 2014. Today I would expect atleast 5k just for the same thing but wouldn’t be surprised if they said more either.

Wow!! I had my engine hatch fly up and break about ten years back . I sent it to Martinez to match it and he built me another complete hatch for the outrageous price $700.00.

I am sure that you are aware of the 210 values. I’d say a good quality low hour 210 is in the range of $35k. This high hour, 350, a bit of gel damage and interior at even just $10k, which I’d agree with everyone else open bow would be over $15. Then you have other potential issues not disclosed. If you are up for a bit of a project lowball the guy and see what happens. I am grateful to have out little 210 it fits the needs of our family. Plus we have friends that like to come along for a change in boating from their deck boats. Good luck in your search. 👍

I would say negotiate the price and pull the trigger. Nice 210s are $35k. You would have a nice boat and not be hurting down the road on resale. Can’t go wrong with a Hallett and the colors are good with that one.

A bote doesn’t have to be perfect to have fun on. If the floors are solid and the engine doesn’t have any major issues that isn’t a bad deal (assuming it’s the boat in the ad above).

Depending on your level of OCD you might be able to get by with a deep clean using some tuff stuff and some small interior fixes here and there, along with some elbow grease.

My Lavey was neglected and advertised as needing a new interior, I was able to pull it all out and clean it several times and it ended up looking pretty good. I found a local interior shop that was willing to replace a strip of vinyl on the hatch that was torn- I asked to see the scrap pile and found a roll of leftover material that matched another color on my boat. While the interior was out I cleaned the carpet and scrubbed every inch of the bilge and it turned out great. It’s not perfect, but it cleans up nice and I don’t stress over crumbs and spills like I usually would. I am pretty picky and focus on the little stuff I still know is there but I’m always getting complements on my float.

You might be able to find seat cushions or other pieces from someone who is wanting to redo a 210 and is going to get new stuff made. Most boaters have towels over their seats when parked anyway. You can find some nice front seats on Amazon or the like for a reasonable price and might be able to get away with some repairs on the rear hatch/ seat if you find the right guy who is willing to do them. That same guy might be willing to do the front seat cushions without doing the whole interior.

I can’t see the whole boat- and maybe it’s a basket case- but if you have the free time and mechanical ability I’d give it a good look with cash in hand and make a reasonable offer if you think it’s worth a chance and can get it in the mid to high teens. Those older merc motors are pretty solid and extremely easy and cheap to own, diagnose, and maintain- especially if you are familiar with 80s-90s GM engines and fuel injection. The service manuals can be found for free online if you dig for em.

If you want a really clean 210 I would start with one in that condition and pay the 30-40k they usually fetch. The good thing is, open bow 210s are usually a pretty quick sale if you decide to move on from the boat later.

I had my 1985 interior replaced at Eliminator Boats in 2005. It had floor issues, and interior issues.
$11k. ( tuck and roll is expensive).

Not a 210 but I had my 19' Charger reupholstered, with all new wood structure, new carpet for 3800. He did a cover for 1200
The guy who replaced my transom set me up with the guy and he even embroidered Charger logo on the seats.

Is this a shop or someone in town who does side work? I’ve got some small repair stuff. I’d like to get done to tide me over.
They do it all. Ron worked at Nordic for many years. Tell him I sent you.

I just got quoted, $8k for new floor and Seadeck flooring...it was $1800 alone to pull out and reinstall the existing interior which is in perfect shape...

We have a 2003 Hallet 210. Long story, as we also have the 255. I would run away from this particular 210. On this boat I'd be more concerned about the motor, out-drive and belly tank. That said, if you get it cheap enough, I'd rock it with white towels on the seats!

Call Rene at riverside boat upholstey. If it’s simple he can keep costs down and best out the competition.

Original owner is plus. For me I would have less worry about those problems. If it had multiple owners recently, I would agree to run away.

That yellow Hallet would be cooler if it had straight through exhaust. That being said, guys who buy it setup with that quiet exhaust probably don't run em as hard so that's a plus. Also what's with the black aluminum prop? Either he busted the stainless one and he was a cheap ass and didn't wanna pay for a stainless replacement, OR he really doesn't care about performance and was just running that for years (or I'd ask him what's the story on the prop). If so, can be a good deal if it's 500 babied hours and just needs new vinyl with solid wood and floor! Probably can add in a straight exhaust for $1.5-2k.

Either way run the boat on water test, I'd never buy a boat without driving it!

"The interior is weather from use, not poor storage or neglect"

Looks pretty fucking neglected to me, sometimes I wish Craigslist had a comment section for entertainment purposes ;)

I just bought a used 210 from Jerry Barron last week. Interior is fine. I asked what he thought a new one would cost he said around 12K to do similar to the original design that’s in the boat
Kinda crazy, I remember when it was half of that pre-covid, $5-6k.

I don't think I'd spend $12k to reupholster a 25 year old family boat unless it was something quite badass.

Anyone ever take a boat down to TJ for upholstery? Seems like if there was a good shop with a safe yard they could have a lot of business.. I'm not familiar down there and don't like the country, but I'm sure it's a viable option if you have a Mexican buddy to go with you.

So you bought that one. I was going to buy it 😂. I called Monday morning and they said it just sold. Then I found one an hour later. Same spec, bought it from Mike at Conquest.

I have a couple more affordable options, but they are more capable of doing a basic replacement. One is in Lakeside around Wintergarden and the other is Morales Upolstery in Escondido. I'm assuming they would be around $8k or so.

Such a clean boat. Very well taken care of. When did you own it?
View attachment 1383337
Owned it from I want to say from 2003 up until we built or 255 in 2017. When we bought it, it only had 12hrs on it. The guy that had it built that we bought it from had a run in with a dock, he had Hallett fix it, then he decided he didn't like boating and it sat in his storage in Parker. When we owned it we never had any issues with the boat, was always turn key, serviced every year, never had any gel work needed, it was always stored indoors, and got waxed twice a season. I think we used the bimini twice in our ownership of the boat. Spent most of its life in Parker.

Congrats on the purchase and I am sure you are going to love the boat!

Buy once, cry once.

If the boat is nice have the interior done by someone that can keep to the original Hallett patterns and finish (Like Hallett/Nordic). If you put a knock off interior in it definitely makes anyone looking at the boat go "wtf is with this interior" if you are selling it.

Any Hallett that comes up for sale with a funky interior you are always thinking about what else is wrong with the boat, In my opinion anyway.

Also alot of these cheap interior guys don't know how to build frames or seats that last. The foam goes dead, the wood starts breaking down, the mounting bolts are shit, etc, etc etc.
