There are always cops coming and going from that CHP station and always patrolling on the freeway I was even closer to. I don't give fuck where they sit, but it shouldn't take a half hour from anywhere. I can drive from downtown to where I was in less than30 minutes. You mean to tell me there wasn't some cop with his radar gun out between me and downtown SD???

Just curious, do you guys REALLY believe the police sit at the staion and wait for calls ?!?!?!

Yes they do;) Can't win either way. If your grabbing a cup ready to respond anywhere at the drop of a hat you are lazy and not doing your job. If your out doing your job tied up on another call, you're worthless because you couldn't respond lights and sirens to their dispute of weeds growing in the front yard. Oh well, either way we get to look super bitchen in our uniforms and they don't:D

So the Police shoot an unarmed guy by mistake, is that the news story of the century?

Not quite that simply buddy. The guy who made the 911 call lied and said he thought they had a gun. Turns out they were breaking into cars stealing shit. He later admitted that he lied about it because just like you he thought they would respond faster. Pretty sure he is facing criminal charges over it.

I've had to explain to countless people the same thing over and over again. Yeah, it really pisses me off when someone steals something of mine but that does not make it life threatening. When you call and make shit up about life threatening situations people can and do die. It's really that simple.

I don't think you are a cop hater, just someone who said some really stupid shit. It happens.:thumbsup

Threads like this make me respect cops even more. The shit they have to put up with is amazing. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

All depends on the time of day. You might be suprised how many actually CHP are on shift for a certain area. I followed a drunk driver hit and run on the 91 freeway Eastbound from Yorba Linda one night and was on the phone with CHP from the time I saw the wreck until they showed up. Between that time the guy pulled off the freeway into a remote parking lot, exited his car, and tried to get stupid with me. Keep in mind I am an off duty plain clothed cop on the line with 911. They know I'm a cop, plain clothed and off duty and they can hear the guy in the background. We almost went to blows. 45 minutes later CHP gets there and when I asked what took so long they told me it was them and 2 other cars out that in night for the mojority of the 91, 15, 60 and 10 freeway in the riverside area. They had been finishing up another accident and literally had noone to respond. Shit happens.

Here's the problem with your assumption, the guys coming and going from the station are doing things that keep them from responding to calls (suspect in custody etc.) Any cop worth his salt avoids the station like the plague. That fact that it took them longer than you would like to show up to your particular emergency was solely based on the fact they were busy doing other, just as important, things....:D

Fair enough, but it just bums me out to see people getting traffic tickets every day on my way to/from work while some dude is potentially hurt after getting hit by a car at 45MPH. (Maybe all cops were busy with more important stuff on that particular day :)) To me it just seemed like an important call to take (without knowing what other calls may have been going at the same time).

By definition the events that are happening in front of you are ALWAYS more important than ANYTHING going on somewhere else. :D

In defense of all Upland LEO's and Firemen, my hats off to all of you for having the patience that you do. I say this because the amount of BULLSHIT calls you all have to deal with from the homeless fucking losers is unbelieveable. Just about every day they have to respond to a drunk down or a bum fight. Pisses me off that they are responding to these calls and quite possibly missing real emergencies, but that's what they have to deal with. If it was me, they'de die in the gutter or in the field behind my shop. These people are drunk/addicts.

HP, was this in City or County area of Corona? Can't speak for county, but in Corona we are down from 190 sworn to current allotment of 150 and with that, we are down 7 spots at 143 due to injuries, retirements and guys leaving to other departments ( thank your council). Don't know what time of day you called but FYI, we run shift average of 8 guys on days, 4 or 5 more come on at 2pm... so at most we're running about 12/13 guys at peak times. With that said, most calls are two unit calls and sometimes more. We cover from Dos lagos, Mckinley, Hidden Valley out to Green River.........so you can see we get pulled pretty thin. I'm not in Patrol right now, but if you wanna send me a PM , I can look into what took so long. But I can tell you from experience, we are normally stacked for "pending" calls and dispatch puts them out in order of priority. Hope that helps.

BTW....any laterals out there..........we are hiring :) still have 3/50 :) and good bennies.........

Good insight to reality.

Still have 3/50? Good for you guys. Hang on to that. I really feel for the newer guys hiring on.
