The nature of @was thatguy 's job helped him see the world, and bounce on to greener pastures.
That, and growing up Air Force brat, and working civilian DoD, when you go to 3 different schools in 2-3 different states almost every year until junior high it gets to be routine. Lol
At 3 years old I was playing with phillipino kids outside of the housing compound at Clark AFB near Manilla.
(Sometimes they’d beat us up, sometimes they played nice)
By the time we moved to Alaska (about 10 years old) I’d lived in 3 countries and 6 states that I know of. When people ask me where I’m from I really don’t know how to accurately respond? Typically I say I’m from Alaska, but born in Mississippi.
So as an adult, having now been in 9 countries and every state and every Canadian province except the territories, moving around the country is not a big deal.
It’s how it’s always been for me.
My career since DoD has been oilfield, so I can sort of live where ever I choose? I have usually tried to centralize with work considerations, but not always.
I picked Shasta lake at 40 years old because I was tired of Alaska, and I knew every road trip I made I always liked the looks of the lake from the I-5 bridge.
So I took 2 months off, drove from Alaska to Cabo, spent 6 weeks on the beach at toto santos, then drove back to Alaska repacked my truck, and moved to Redding and rented a place at Jones Valley by the lake.
Couple years later I met Deb and the next 16 years became another slice of my life.
Now, I’m on to the next segment. Not sure how it’ll pan out but it is what I make of it. Tried Havasu for 4 years but didn’t buy there. I bought right up the road, but may end up in cutbank MT before it’s all done…who knows?
That’s just a small part of my adventure.
That’s sort of an explanation as to why I simply do not comprehend anyone being “stuck” anywhere.
I drive to Western Wy every 2 weeks now, I do it in one day each way. That’s my work commute.
Deb always said I should write a book, I’d always tell her “who the fuck would believe it?” 😂🤘

Then again, you know, I’ve never “lived my life” so I’m probably just full of shit.

I've never been far, so I envy those that have. Life is really a series of adventures, some small and some large. Being able to adapt and change can be a serious advantage. The only thing constant is change. I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of that shortly.

I have good friends in Panama City Florida that are my age, and have never been further than Dothan Alabama.
My lifelong friends (the ones still alive) are also almost all military brats and have been everywhere I have more or less.

Talked to one of my old friends today.
He’s in Casa Grande, his girlfriend lives in Austin TX, he’s working in Pennsylvania, but temporarily working in Utah.
and people fret about moving a few hundred miles?

It's weird to me to stay so isolated. I'd like to see the world, but probably won't be able to. Certainly not for the foreseeable future. I worked with a guy that was born at 33rd and Avalon in LA. His first and only home was down the road Del Amo mall area...10 minutes away. At 40 years old, had been to Vegas and TJ...that's it.

This version of Elon is awesome 🤣🤣

Make no mistake. At the end of the day Elon is going to do what’s best for Elon and he knows Biden is done. He is brown nosing Trump now. Trump will take all the endorsements he can get now but if he wins, he’s gonna do what’s best for Trump.

It’s all a big shot show and we’re just an audience. Enjoy it for now lol.

Part of me still thinks Musk may be some James Bond type super villain. All his satellites are lower orbit, and he's putting up a ton of them. He may flip a switch someday that takes over every country's comms and all satellite media 🤣
For now though, glad he went Team Trump.

40 degrees cooler than my River pad currently. It's not for everyone. But it works for some. I couldn't work in construction elsewhere with the heat. I got a fan on me working and it's low 70s.

Last weekend had to do some work at the river pad. Truck was under a awning and I couldn't hold the tools I pulled out of my tool box. Same with tools from my shed. To hot to hold. Needed gloves or a cool wet towel to cool them off to use. My work trucks half the shit inside would go bad. Wax rings would melt, caulk, silicon would harden. Would have to buy a refrigerated box truck to work out of.

I get it. I lived with that great weather for 33 yrs. Is it hot here in south east Florida? Yep, but to me it doesn't bother me. I hate the cold. As far as tools, wax rings etc... I am sure people in AZ, FL, TX and other hot places have figured out how to deal with it.

I fell sorry for those that want to leave and can't due to family, job or what ever else. I say you only live once and go where you are happy.

Was on the River for the 4th. And Guys were putting on a tile roof in the Keys. It was 122 out. Few years ago I had to go on my river pad roof at 110 and after 30 minutes barely made it down the ladder and almost collapsed.

It's mid 70s this week and have to do the new house roof ASAP. Waiting for it to cool down.

I could leave but don't want to start my business over. It's a rat race here but there is so much work in my industry now that I am established. I would rather buy another vacation house. And spend my time in Parker and another spot and work here to pay for it. The furthest job I have done this year was Huntington Beach. For a member here. My 2015 work truck has 17k miles. I have 5 jobs within 3 miles of my house and 2 going on the same block. Very rare that I have to get on a freeway for work unless it is to pick up materials.

Elon is genuinely pissed because of one of his kids that was swindled into gender transitioning over this severe indoctrination bs in the schools. When this all went down is when he flipped the switch, what he previously thought was hyperbole turned out to be far more real than he imagined. I imagine he would have been far happier working on his rockets and staying quiet if this never happened.

If you followed his tweets over the last 2 years since buying twitter it unfolded slowly in real time. Endorsing Trump is just icing on the cake, he has been flatly rejecting Democrat policy publicly since then.

Honestly, I never even thought about his daughter in the mix of all this. I think you're right though, he'd much rather be doing the mad scientist stuff than politicking.

Jesus - That's like an hour drive -

My kid lived in Cairo, GA riding dirtbikes the past 18 months - Needless to say, I drove thru Dothan often....

Did it just last weekend again.....

Only 240ish miles from my house but 231 sucks....

Motocross is the reason they’d go to Dothan.

Having traveled a good bit for work mostly domestic but internationally a few times.- There is no place like home IMO.

Doesn't matter where home is as I have relocated a few times - But that's where I'd rather be.

Don't really think much of that is going on around Dothan anymore - I know they have one track there but we have never rode it - Most of the folks involved in MX from Dothan area race a series that basically covers the State north of Montgomery....

Kid is a little burnt out it seems and is understandable - I'm giving him a until after LL to see if he wants to go back for another year. If not I won't be broke anymore :D, but yet will miss this chapter of our lives. The thought of it ending actually bums me out. I guess I'll have to buy another boat....

I just keep reminding him to let it play out and be a kid as long as he can.....Once it's over, it's over....He doesn't grasp that concept yet, just don't want him to look back later and regret pulling the plug. At the same time, I won't force him to go down that path if it's not what he wants. I know if I had some of the decisions I made at his age back, I would have made different choices.

Reminds me of an old question or saying, "If your life was a book, would anybody want to read it ?"
