I've been a union carpenter for 32 years in WA State. It rains here, a lot.
Been through most boot MFG over that time frame. When I was younger I had Danner's, they were super heavy but were water proof and had a lifetime warranty. I've had both knees operated on before I was 35 YO, torn / worn out meniscus and I think it's because of those heavy ass boots.

At one point in my carrier I wore Sears Diehards, sucked to break them in but were so comfortable once the pain went away.

I have been wearing Redwings for the last couple of years, not the chinesium built ones, and they have been solid. Put about 10 miles a day on them, the soles wear out but not the uppers. Comfortable, zero break in blisters / pains.

My wife bought me a pair of Danner Chelsea's ( Romeos) with high ankle supports. for Xmas last year. Took a while to break them in but very comfortable. I have a pair of Ariat "romeos" that were brutal to break in but are like Crocs now, but are worn out.

I have tried most of the brands in this thread except for Thorogood. Its all about relative timing of reviews but I have tried the cheap shit like CAT and it is what it is, crap. You get what you pay for and if you are on you feet for a living pay for what helps you do your job. I would put money on the best quality and value isnt produced by China.

cowboy boots are my daily in the Winter. I have a problem with one foot right now, and have been looking for something like this, or at least a rubber heal, to wear when I will be on my feet all day. I don't care for the orange on the sole for casual wear. I will take a look at what they have.
… What ever happened to Frys tall top pointed toe rough out cowboy boots???… or was that before your time… For some reason one day, they just stopped making them???…

I prefer the pull-on type work boots. The Doc Martin Industrial boots were like slippers almost from day 1. I do have to double up my insoles though as I have fairly flat feet (not the lack of arch type flat though).

I changed to Cody James composite toe pull on and they have been fantastic! Going on over 2 years now on the same pair. Probably have another 2 in them. They still aren't quiet as comfortable as the Docs, but are WAY lighter.

Just found out though that Doc Martin stopped making their industrial line. No its just their shitty style lines.

If you have wide feet, don’t bother with thorogood’s. Even their wide boots made my toes go numb before I could get in my truck to go to work. Lol
Danners are good
timberland pro’s are pretty comfy right out of the box
Keen are really comfortable
redwings once you wear in they’re alright, but they don’t last for shit. Soles less then a year
currently doing the twisted x nano boots, they look similar to vans. Took a few days to wear in the low ankle area. like em so far

Been on a redwing kick for the past 4 pairs. I like the chukkas. They normally last me about 8 ish months before the soles are blown, not in a good way. Wear them 6 days a week all day, might as well sleep in em 🤣. The lay pair I got the seam towards the tip of the boot blew out within like 3 weeks and they were just complete pos. Only got suckered into another pair because the store didn’t have my size in the carhartt version of the chukka.

Next will be the carhartt or the danner. I tried the brunt and I didn’t care for them, felt like I had clown shoes on 🤣

Worn Georgia boots the last 15 years. Last a full solid year being in my feet 2000+ hours a year. No break in period. No sores on yore feet.

$160 at boot barn. Have found on Amazon for as cheap as $96

How do Georgia boot run size-wise - a half size small/large, right on?

I was going to order some Brunts, but what I'm reading it seems that those seem to large, but without having a pair to try on, it's hard to determine if it's okay or need to size down. I don't want to do the return and back and forth BS.

Legit old school red wings.

My 2 pairs are 10 years old. Might be time to get a new pair. They cost $350+ but they’re honestly the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. You just need to have a cobbler take care of them.

I resole them every 6-12 months for $100. Worth every penny.
Exactly what I do. Have the same pair and get the re-soled when needed

Used to wear Fryes a lot. Especially when riding the motorcycle back in the day. I forget the story I had heard about why they disappeared from the market, but yes they are gone.

I'm 39 and been a Union Carpenter for 19 years. Both my knees are shot and my Dr. Says I'm too young for knee surgery

Well, Just broke down and retired my Timberland Pro’s and switched it up with Thorogoods.

Been a lot of years since wearing a Wellington type of boot. I walk kind of funny.

I wear Ariat Work Hog slip ons with composite toe. If I go lace up it will be a pair of Keens. My feet just may be ready for a set of lace ups…

I bought the Brunt boots about a year ago. Wore them for about a month and switched back to my irish setters. I don't like the feel of the top of the boot or their lacing system.

I was in a Georgia 10" logger boot for 8 years or so until I moved out of the field into the office, then I went Blundstone Slip-ons for a couple years, and now that I transitioned back to an office role with more field time I went to square toe step-in cowboy style boots. I've done Ariat, Justin, cheap Tractor Supply house brand and am now onto US made Double H square steel toe. The Double H's are most comfortable out of the box in my experience. I did get one pair where I literally could not get my foot into or out of and I tossed them into the garbage after 2 weeks, but that's my fault for trying a new style and buying online without trying on in person.

I'm on my 3rd pair of the same style now and I get about 8 months a pair wearing them 7 days a week. I'm hard on stuff, I could probably get them re-soled and keep the shell, but after 8 months they look like shit and I like the look of a fresh pair of boots.

If buying the step in style boots, make sure to get them un-lined with a leather patch for rear heel reinforcement. The interior liners always seem to wear out before the boot itself and I have to toss them when I start to get blisters where the liner wears out.

8-10 months of abuse - they literally feel like slippers on my feet at this point:

3-4 months of daily use at home and in the office/shop, no real field work on these yet:

Finally pulled the trigger on a pair after reviewing recommendations here and a FB thread I posted. I was sold on Danners or Thorogoods, but the price point was a little high for me. Ended up with some Irish Setters on sale for 139.99 and after doing computer measurements on how I walk, they gave me an arch support insert for them. Been wearing for about 6 hours so far and they are comfy. For my use, these should do just fine.

Did Danner go through a major price hike? About time for a new pair, just looked them up and it’s $250 to replace them. There is no way I paid that much.

They’ve been steadily going up since 2020. At $250 they are no longer a go to.

I wear work boots 7 days a week. 14+ hrs a day. My jacked up ankles and heal requires it.
Only time I wear street shoes or flip flops is on vacation or going somewhere I don't need to be on my feet very long. Even on vacations I'll bring my work boots if I'm doing a ton of walking.
My problem with buying expensive boots is my feet sweat like crazy. I usually have to toss my boots because they smell terrible or I can't shake the athletes foot until I switch them out. Usually every 6 months.
6" Wolverines. After a couple weeks a breaking in I'll add a good insole for comfort and to be able to lace them up extra tight for support.

I’m kind of hard to fit, 13+ and EEE. Red Wing always had sizes to fit me so they are my go too. I have learned though not to buy the lower end imported ones. I had a brand new pair sitting in the box in my closet and when I took them out the sole was disentagrating .

What kind of sock do you wear? Have you tried wool socks? I used to wear rubber muck boots with cotton boot liners. It was miserable and my feet were nasty until i switched to wool socks. I wear wool sock every day now, even in the SoCal summers.

100% cotton or 50/50 cotton and polyester.
Doc told me to switch to 100% polyester..didn't work for me.
I threw on some wool ski socks this morning at your advice. I'll see how things go with these over the next few days. Thanks for the advice 🙏

Costco has a 4 pack of merino wool socks here in SoCal. 15 buck i think. I have historically been a sock snob, wearing the Darn Tough brand wool boot sock. These costco socks are great for the price, even if they only last a year. They are a blend, but i havent found them any different performance wise than the $20/pr darn toughs…..

Interesting. Which boot did you try?

Ive been wearing mine for the last couple of weeks, granted Im not working in them, but wearing them to keep my feet warm and comfortable now that its cold. I actually bought these because of the padding at the top of the boot which has been comfortable from the start. Also, I liked that I didnt have to use the hooks for the upper laces and there were holes available. So far so good and Ive gotten a few compliments.

Red Wings went to shit for me about 10 - 12 years ago. I switched to Thorogood and love them. They are American made as well.
Same for me, picked up Thorogood boots, way better built and more comfortable
