I know there are some of you that take great care of yourselves. I am in my early 50's now and I realize I need to take better care of myself. Are any of you using a sauna on a regular basis? How about a cold plunge on a regular basis? Anybody do both?

We got a infrared sauna from Costco a few years back. use it regularly. I plan on installing a traditional sauna in the next year or two.

I got a hot tub and use it every night.
Also have a steam shower that is pretty nice but don't use it much.
A cold plunge??? Oh hell no..

I have two friends with cold plunges that I get to use. One of them is a professional $12,000 unit that keeps the water at 33, ice often is on top that you have to break before getting in. I think it actually came with an ice pick/axe lol. The other is kind of home-assembled. An off-the-shelf chiller/pump that was $2,500 and a custom-made stainless tank that he installed directly next to the jacuzzi. It keeps the water around 42-45. He's on chiller #2, first one lasted 6 months and took a shit. Quality matters for sure.

You need a way to warm up afterward, or you'll shiver your ass off. Either go straight into a workout or the jacuzzi or sauna. They say you shouldn't plunge after a workout.

You feel fanfuggintastic when you get out. I dropped by one day with a gnarly hangover, plunged for 5 minutes, and cured that problem pronto.

I've read saunas have better health benefits, who knows? Both are enjoyable.

One more note- these aren't a silver bullet for health benefits type of deal. It's another component of a healthy lifestyle. Part of the routine per se. Proper and regular exercise, a clean diet, reduced drinking, supplements, etc. Cold plunge and sauna go along with that, like one performance part of many on your boat, they work as a package.

I dont think they'll fix any ailments on their own. I dont see it helping much if you're not healthy and in shape already.

Perspire has been around a long time for the sauna side.

He has helped many people. He is a human biologist that used to work for a life insurance company and he could predict the month +/- a few months of when you would die. He helped Dana White and Joe Rogan. Find the Youtube videos of their interviews about Gary Brecka.

I'm kidding, but I'm hoping that a pedigree Hollywood actor that is paid to be in tip top shape and has access to anything and everything he needs to achieve super human results isn't the spoke person for this... I guess i was thinking it maybe helped with blood flow or recovery from a workout or something along those lines. Hemsworth is 41 and he's acting like he's gonna turn 80 in that vid lol.

I do both frequently. I notice less aches and pains with frequent ice baths. The Sauna is a butt kicker and has tons of health benefits. When I’m in the sauna and ice constantly I feel my best.

Huberman is kinda the go to popular science guy right now.

It's his, and his very well respected trainer, series about longevity.

It has zero to do with how fit he is, and everything to with living in the best health possible.

It's a 7 part series if memory serves? One whole episode is on extreme cold and heat, and how it affects the body.

It's funny...

A cancer survivor friend of mine, had told me a long time ago, he always takes Cold showers. After I watched the episode on extreme cold, I asked my friend...

Do you do that cause you enjoy it? Or because your doctor told you to?

His cancer doctor told him to do it.

Pretty much all extreme athletes, use the ice bath and sauna deal. If you wanna know why, watch the series.

You can get a prescription for a sauna and write it off, but needs to be a “medical” one.

I’d like to have one, just don’t want it in the garage. Would prefer a better view and not something I need to clean. lol.

I like benefits of full body cryotherapy and did it for years but it becomes a hassle going to a place all the time and costly. I like the cold pluge because I can do it at home. I enjoy dry sauna over infrared sauna, you just don’t cook the same with infrared. Both activities along with frequent stretching will help a lot physically and mentally.

The Nordic people have been doing this for generations. Lots of very fit Norwegians and Swedes out there, must be something to it.

I do sauna almost every day, notoce a huge difference when I don’t. In the winter I add cold plunge using the pool. There are no studies that show increased benefits to colder water. 50 is about the magic number.

Cold plunge is the best hangover cure. 😉

I've always liked sweating so I enjoy the sauna. I bought one of those travel saunas and set it up in my bedroom. It works extremely well and I use it almost daily to try and keep my PMR at bay. It was only a couple of hundred dollars.

There are cold/heat therapy gyms you can join. LA Fitness has saunas. Cold plunge you’ll need a huge ice machine, I’ve seen lots of guys converting deep freezers into cold baths, you can rig up a chiller to a spa or other water source, or you can buy a manufactured one.

I have heard a traditional sauna is better than an infared sauna. It has to do with the wave length of tge infared heat and temp. Traditional sauanas are in the range of 180-195°. Infared run about 140°.

You can heat or cold stress you bodies in other ways too. Get outside in winter. In summer working outside on a hot day or getting in the car without using ac.

Everything you do should be part of a regime. Like they say you can't out exercise a bad diet. Regular exercise that includes weight teaining. Supplements etc

Where are you located? Find yourself a good wellness clinic, check your blood out, and go from there.

I have 2 buddies that have 1 or both of them at home and swear by them. Buddy 1 has been doing cold plunge followed by sauna for YEARS and swears by them. Was a stud football player in HS, played college, and could've gone on but was too beat up. Hes been doing them since the 90s and says when he doesnt he feels it. Has to plan his vacations around places that have a sauna and/or rooms with a tub to make sure he keeps them up. 2 or 3 days in a row skipping them and he feels it. Buddy 2 bought a ice plunge deal for home but no sauna "yet"... he cranked up his water heater and sits in the shower with on full hot to warm back up after CP. He is getting the same way, after a few days of no CP he starts feeling it.

Im really looking at a home infra red sauna, my 82 year body is cracking and crumbling and telling me to slow the F down.... and I'm ONLY 52 !!!! hahaha.
