Kids middle school ski team coach just hit my wife up to help out. She's at most all the practices. And every race. Coach has got a family emergency and can't do practice next week and most likely can't make the race next weekend.
Wife's not really able to be on the mountain all day do to some medical issues. Plus she's a snowboarder
Can't ski at all.

So I've been volunteered. But I haven't skied in 25 years. I'm better than average snowboarding. But im 50. Was a good skier in my early 20s. But not really a good teacher.
Do I go for it? Don't want these kids to miss out on a practice and race.

I brought a propane construction heater and camping chairs last time I took kids sledding. It was 5 degrees or so. everybody was my friend that night.

I would be honest about yore position and if they still want help and you can do it, go for it. you will definetely learn something and might even have a good time.
Couch knows us well. My wife is very involved.
I make it to all the races. They know I'm a crippled snowboarder.
I snowboard. But have been able to teach my kids to ski pretty well.

Do It!!!

Skiing is like riding a bike! Just remember you are not 20…you are 50. NO Diamonds for you sir. Cruz the kids! It will be fun! Snow plow them through two runs and they are done. Then take the lift to the top and see if you can make it down without falling😄 I’m 55 and still do a diamond now and then. A man has got to know his limitations.

Do it, you'll have a blast. I coached my son and his team for 2 years of football and am starting my 3rd year of coaching him and others in shotput.

I grew up skiing and taking lessons, actually got pretty good. In my early twenties I tried to switch over to snowboarding for the cool factor, but I just never really got comfortable on a board.

I remember one day by lunchtime I had enough of the snowboard and went to the bottom of the mountain and traded in the rental board for skis. The rest of the day was great! It all came right back, and I was able to go hit any run I wanted without hesitation.

At 42 I wouldn't hesitate to grab some skis and go up the mountain. But you better believe that my ass would have the best gear I could buy these days, I remember being cold on the lift as a kid and it sucked.

Do it!

Watch some YouTube videos and you’ll be fine. If that doesn’t work you can stay at a Holiday Inn for a night.

So bring your board and whatever skiis you have laying around. You're a late scratch replacement with kids in the mix. So what if you're boarding. You're there for them.

I had coaches growing up that couldn't see their feet telling me where to get past a screen for an open jumper lol

If you can still ski then heck ya do it!
That's the thing..my ankles are jacked. Don't think I could do a day sidehilling on my board all day. I know i cant. I'm going to have to rent skis. And hope I don't embarrass my kids.

Used to be able to do blacks all day. It's been almost half my life since then.
Sounds like I just need to be there. Hearding them. They aren't expecting me to teach them.

I’d say go for it still but I guess you’re going to be critiquing their form. Just make sure you can “show” what you’re teaching lol.
My kids are not good because of me. I didn't teach them much. They are just fearless. Plus. They understand you can't miss a gate. Lots of faster kids last season. But they blew gates.

Just do it. Maybe in 20 years those kids will be posting on some forums about the good times they had on the slopes with their “fill in coach”. ;)

I've skied off an on for 40 years, and wouldn't have the foggiest idea on how to coach a ski team...

High School Principal has offered to fill in for coach. Was kinda looking forward to doing it. All good though. I can focus on helping my own kids. My wife just got offered the assistant coach position. She's always at the practices and races helping out anyway. We just don't have to pay for her ski passes at the 7 different mountains for races anymore.
And they're getting her a pass for our local mountain that they practice at.
