Hi All,
Cliftonville Ski Club is a local club close to where I live and is organised as a family orientated club. They have a very strong junior presence and over the last few years have helped foster the sport of ski racing in our community in many ways.
As it is run as a local club, and for families or those who just want to "have a crack", the costs are kept to a minimum and as far as a day's racing is concerned, you could be in and out, run every event, and still have change from $500 including fuel. Membership costs are also kept to a minimum as everything is done by volunteers.
Cliftonville is lucky to have some very experienced judges on their committee including a chief judge from NSW Ski Racing, but during these local events, it's all about the love of the sport and a requirement of entry is that all egos are checked at the gate.
Last Sunday saw Round 1 of the new season and speaking with the organisers, their most popular event ever! At times it was difficult to keep your eyes on all boats. If that's a sign of things to come, it's going to be a very good season indeed.
I've helped out with photography for them over the past 2 seasons and as a result, at last season's presentation held a couple of months ago, in addition to the great trophies all of the place-getters are presented with, this year all sponsors received a 2' x 1' canvas print with an array of shots of their boat in action.
I also convinced the committee to put together a ski racing calendar for the new season which has a feature boat on each page from last year's racing, as well as all ski racing events both local, state, and national, listed on their respective dates. The calendar looks great thanks to great presentation of the layout. One of the committee members has a relative who works for a print shop and her skills are second to none. So far the calendar is a great success as well with many people already purchasing them last Sunday. Many people commented on how good the pics looked and that made me all day.
Finally mothers will be able to reclaim their own calendars back for things like shopping notes and doctors appointments as the family can now scribble notes on the "new" calendar as to what's happening, where, and when!
I went along to check out some of the new boats and catch up with some friends, and managed to roll off a couple of hundred shots on the day. I must have not had much sleep though cause some of them are plain out of focus :bash:
Anywho, here's a selection. Take special note of some of the kids skiing. There are kids in this club as young as 6 who are racing. One little one I missed a shot of ran on junior doubles and complete one lap of the course which is several miles long!!
