So we are going to be out in Havasu for Christmas week. I don't own any off road stuff and I've never done it before and so I was wondering if this would be a good time to try and rent for a day or two and go explore and see if its something we want to do more of.

First off, what places in Parker or LHC rent SxS to a complete newb? It would be for myself and possibly my girlfriend to take turns driving. Pros and cons from renting in Parker or LHC?

What do we need as far as any kind of training class? Any special equipment we should try to supply? For example I have Bell open face helmets and some driving goggles from ski racing I could use so I don't have to rent those. I figured long sleeves and pants and closed toe shoes are required.

Also how do we drive it to where we can use it? Does the rental place take care of that? Or tell you how to get there?

And finally, you're probably going to want me to announce where I'll be and when so you can be somewhere else that day so I don't piss off everyone else with my cluelessness.

Thanks in advance!

We rented last year from Paradise Wild Wave Rentals in Havasu. We had no problems and it was a good experience. Bought a SXS a few days later. You don’t need any training. They will go over basic functions of the SXS. They are street legal in Havasu so you can drive it from lot wherever you want to ride. I believe they have trailers for rent as well if you’re riding elsewhere.

Cool thanks. Do you think I need to make a reservation for Christmas week? Are these two holiday weeks busy in LHC?

@Jefftowz and @BUDMAN might have more input as they have rented in the past as well. Post up if you are looking for people to ride with. We should be in town around that time and I am interested inputting some miles on our car. 👍

I'd be interested in a group ride as I have no idea what's worth doing. Just don't want to get over my head.

I don’t that there is a way to get in over your head. The trails are mellow around town. Now if you go too fast In a wash things can go sideways for sure. Maybe if you try a ride that is longer than you want is another concern. There is so much that you you can do/experience i’d not worry too much just take it slow. 👍

Fun Fact:

If you pass a group of off-roaders that you think are throwing gang signs at you, run away as fast as you can! Just kidding, they are doing the responsible thing and holding up fingers to let you know how many people are following behind them in their group. A closed fist held up in the air means that they are the last rider. I doubt you'll see this too much with current SxS drivers, but those of us that started on 2/3 wheels (and even @rivermobster with his 4 wheeled couch) might still be doing it.

If it's dusty and visibility is limited, slow down.

If you're in a wash with blind corners, slow down.

Use 4wd, it gives you more control when cornering and if an evasive maneuver is needed.

Use your headlights during the day, but not the overhead lightbar (if equipped).

As a SxS noob, DONT drink beers and drive. That .5 second of delayed reaction time can cost you (or your passengers) a limb or your life.

I had a neighbor that rented one over Thanksgiving. They rented from somewhere in Havasu and they delivered it to Parker. Let me ask him the name. It was clean RZR 1000xp, 700 a day though. Still cheaper than owning one

Try meeting up and riding with some other SxS’s. It’s way safer in case of a flat tire or breakdown and you’ll have fun swapping trail stories.

The ride to the Bunker Bar is an easy ride and fun destination. Another recommendation to not drink, you’ll need your head on straight especially the first time in a SxS.

You’re gonna have a blast and plan on spending $20,000 a few days later lol.
