I am a pretty blood, guts and broken bones, blue collar, right wing kind of special. I am a little over 40, and truly believe you reap what you sow. Good or bad, it comes from you. Last night, I went to a friends party. He is pretty right leaning, his wife is a Trump hating employee of a 3 letter government security deal.
Well, none of his family showed...and only a handful of his friends.

It was bound to happen...A younger fellow complaining about long hours at work, and doing extra to make a house payment and a truck payment. No kids, no wife...pretty basic deal. Soooo, I play into it. "Oh my God, you mean 12-14 hour days?" "Getting to work before sunrise? Leaving in the dark?" "My God, the humanity of it all!"

There was an older guy near me, and his wife next to him. He's self employed, and his wife is a saint, Hospice nurse at the local VA...oh yeah, 12 hour shifts. They knew where this was going, and lost it when I made the statement, "That's how it's done. That is something to be proud of, not whine about."

Well, at least I was sober. May have been interesting otherwise...

Good for you! It doesn’t matter if your a Trump fan or not, it’s how you get ahead in life!
You spend the extra time, arrive extra early, do what needs to be done!

some people get it and some don’t! The world needs ditch diggers also!

Growing up in Texas,,

Call a man a bitch, no problem,
Call a man a dipshit, no problem,
call a man a bastard, no problem,

Call a man Lazy, ur fucked, thats fighting words, that guy will fight, you better be ready to defend yourself.

Either you work and prove yourself as a man or woman, or your considered a worthless piece of shit.

Thats how I was raised..

Race, gender has nothing to do with it. You are defined by your work ethic...

Sadly, thats not the standard today

A friend of mine works for Delta, he gets all over the world training their mechanics. He was telling me recently that in Europe they call the younger generation of Americans "lazies" That pretty much sums it up.....

That’s pretty funny with the amount of vacation time the people in Europe have.

Imagine how many hours you could truly work in a day not posting novels on here all day. Ha.

My goals of moving out here were to pay off properties, and leave the rat race. After 7 neck and back surgeries, goals changed. I screw around a lot now, but that was the case for 20+ years. I still have my tool belt, but it's no longer my meal ticket.

... right now, I have the heater thawing my shop. At 7am it was 33 in there...bit on the chilly side to be turning iron. Current project has been parked 30+ years. An hour or so shouldn't make a difference:D

My thoughts on this younger generation: they have no clue what putting in the work and effort at the beginning is in order to reap rewards down the road. They are very short-sighted and think everything happens with the click of a mouse/keyboard. God forbid they have to sweat to get something done. o_O

I have not met a person who has been successful who did not put in hard work and long hours. Not all but I will say a majority of new workers starting their careers do not want or even can handle working Monday through Friday 8 to 5, without being late or complaining. These youth's I am stating are normally the ones who spent 4 years in college with all living and school expense borrowed by student loans. I worked for a major company, I never hired a college graduate that did not have a job on their resume during their college years, it made a difference.

About fifteen years ago (back in my drinking days) I was "The Guy" at our company Christmas Party up in P.V. While signing in at the door you were given two drink tickets compliments of the company. I thought to myself, if I had the chance I'd grab that stack of tickets and pass on some extra good cheer to my co-workers. While keeping a close eye on the lady at the sign in desk, I was patiently waiting to make my move when she finally got distracted. That was all I needed to become "The Guy" that turned a stuffy Christmas Party at the country club into a night to remember...

I went on a job interview recently and one of the comments that stipulations brought up was "you must show up on time, every day".

I didnt even know that was a negotiable thing!!?? Like he made it a point to say it and ask if I had any problems with it!!??

Is that what this world coming too??

Yep, I've had a few business ventures and finally realized that other people will treat me better than I treat myself.

You were at a party, and you listened to somebody complaining?

That's on you.
Tis the season. And all that.
I've met few unhappy people Christmas eve.
Didn't bother me any, I just did my job.

I was trying to be "social" I guess? Not really my thing. I'm more or less a hermit in my shop, but occasionally will go out in public. The food was good, as was the vast majority of conversation. All in all, a pretty decent get together.
