By the late 70s early 80s a guy name Harry Teegarden purchased Blocks gym. That’s where I became friends with Vodak the current owner of Fanatics. Vodak worked a deal with Harry and opened a second Blocks Gym on the Fullerton Anaheim border. A few years later Vodak closed Blocks then opened Golds Gym. Years later Golds Gym was closed and Fanatics was opened.

I doubt that I ever trained with Bobby V.

Old school. I used to build RC planes as a kid I remember at first we would use paper and dope to cover the wings and then they came out with monocote. Nowadays I fabricate lightweight boat parts from carbon fiber.

I knew some of the trainers but I wasn’t really friendly with them. Blocks and Golds we’re pretty much exclusively serious bodybuilder Gyms.

When Vodak opened up Fanatics some of the bodybuilders went there but he let them know it wasn’t going to be the kind a gym for any serious training. He was getting complaints from some of the other gym members. Plus he had a lot of machines and not very many free weights.
