What are you guys in Havasu doing for the Africa heat on your sliding glass doors?

We‘ve got our Master bedroom slider that gets all the afternoon sun. It’s got double pane Low-E glass in it, but when you walk up to the slider from the inside of the house, with the drapes closed, you can feel the heat coming through as you get close to it.

Ceramic tint? Regular tint? Any other ideas?

I had my garage door windows, French and slider doors on the sun facing side of my home in CA tinted with a UV tint. It made them a little darker (more private) and helped out tremendously with the heat.

In AZ I recommend the exterior full window sun screens. We have them and they really help out a lot. You can get them made at Ace hardware.

Keep in mind that if you put tint on an IGU you can cause it to absorb more heat and cause it to fail early. I know that we do not warranty filmed glass in our products. 👍 You could go with a sun shade material cover. We also have heavier curtains that block out more heat.

We used a residential tint that was low reflective from inside, looked like a car with light tint, We used the guy next Building over from Toys car wash. He races jet slips. Good guy.

Use Exterior Sunscreens....ive got a guy in Havasu that did ours, and a few of my rentals and flips. They are the ticket....those and wood shudders...I pack in r-panels to certain windows in the summer as well.
DO NOT TINT. You will void your window warranty if you have one in the vast majority of cases.... We sold a lot of windows in TX on energy efficiency packages (hvac/solar/insulation/windows). I had to have every customer sign a release for my manufacturer regarding tinting....it can cause early failure as @HNL2LHC stated and beyond that it can cause them to straight up shatter one of the sides of the cartridge

Our master has an exterior screen because it gets morning sun and it works well. It also gives some privacy.
